Chapter 138: New Weapon
Chapter 138: New Weapon
Jason dumped a corpse in the dumpster before swiping his dagger at the air with his left hand, ridding it of blood.
Without hesitation he closed the lid, permanently sealing the corpse of the rank 5 awakened in it.
"That takes care of that."
His tone was light even though his expression showed nonchalance.
After watching the various clan heirs in the joint-clan tournament exhibit their coldness, he learned how to exhibit nonchalance.
The corpse in the dumpster didn’t really disturb him, but he was surprised to see that the corpse was dark-skinned.
’To think that the first other person I’ve seen who shares the same skin color with me in this world was dead.’
He let out a sigh as he continued on his way.
It was a bummer to see the first person who was like you dead.
"Oh."
Jason tilted his head backwards, he had just remembered something.
His eyes met a puddle of blood on the ground, the blood of the man. In the puddle there were two eyeballs, both with black irises and blood smeared on them.
’I forgot to put the eyeballs in it as well.’
To punish the man he plucked out his eyeballs before he died, making him experience a lot of pain before he finally succumbed to the damage.
He wanted to throw the eyes in the same place as the man.
In the end he chose to leave it there.
The blood was already conspicuous as it was, just adding some eyeballs would barely do any difference.
’I also need to hide my eyes.’
That man came for him because he noticed his eyes.
It was clear that much more people would come for him judging from his eyes.
’I can’t.’
In the end, he couldn’t hide his eyes while being able to see so he left it like that.
He could only hope that no one would stop him on the road and cause a commotion.
The glares from the people only intensified as he walked past.
He walked for what seemed like minutes, his pace brisk as he moved past people.
As he walked he tried to avoid the main road as much as possible, trying his hardest to avoid mistakenly finding places like the settlement’s Awakened association and such.
If he passed by the Awakened association of this settlement and was noticed some of the awakeners could come out to taunt him.
If he killed them much more awakeners would come out to kill him. Only to end up dead themselves.
After learning from his mistake he wouldn’t dare to underestimate any other awakened ever again, and in a fight against them he would surely win.
Jason was heading for the outskirts of the settlement, he believed that there they would be waiting for him.
The people he walked past slowly began to decrease, it continued until he was the only one on the street.
It was clear that he was on the right track to the outskirts and the best part was that he wasn’t noticed by anyone.
He turned his head to look at a specific building, it was one a good distance from the rest.
It read ’Armory’.
’Maybe this one has a katana.’
And without a second thought, he entered the building. There was no hesitation.
The door of the building creaked as it was opened, signifying that someone had come.
"Scram."
Those were the words that greeted him as he entered.
It was from a muscular middle-aged man wearing a green apron.
He glared at his supposed customer.
Jason’s eyes met his.
The man was caught off-guard by his blue eyes.
"What do you want?"
He questioned, his tone harsh.
After seeing Jason’s eyes, he chose not to send this customer away.
"A weapon, specifically, a katana."
He answered.
"Can you pay for it?"
The man questioned, his tone still filled with disdain.
"I can."
Jason still had some water in his space ring, he knew that it would be enough for his weapon.
"Well, come take your pick."
He motioned for Jason to come over, as if saying he won’t bite.
He walked out of the counter and went to the side for the swords.
Among the swords there was a single katana.
"If you take a weapon and run, I’ll kill you."
The man took a weapon from the rack.
"This weapon here is a normal one, its quite light so you should be able to carry it."
The man went into explaining, acting like he did not just threaten Jason.
"I’ll take it."
Jason readily agreed.
It was the only weapon that was available and suited him.
It was good for him so he would accept it, he would rather choose this than be left with only his dagger and three sectioned staff.
"That’ll be..."
He stopped speaking as he saw the amount of water in front of him.
"Take the weapon."
He said quickly.
With that, Jason made to leave.
But as he was about to open the door he turned around and walked towards another set of weapons.
"What? Do you want to buy them as well?"
The man asked him, his tone clearly friendlier than before.
"No, I just want to ask for the name of this kind of weapon."
He pointed to the weird daggers he had seen both Kira and Asahi using.
"Oh that, they’re called Kunai."
Jason nodded.
’Kunai.’
He made for the door.
"Wait."
The man stopped him.
Jason turned towards him.
"You never met me."
He said.
"I never welcomed you into this place, I wasn’t the one that sold the weapon to you, if you’re asked just say you stole it.
And if you even dare say I’m the one that gave you, I’ll kill you."
He threatened.
’Is he an awakened?’
"Are you an awakened?"
Jason questioned.
’That guy told me only awakeneds know about special eyes.’
"Rank 3."
The man boasted, trying to use it as leverage to pressure Jason.
"Okay."
He turned around and made for the exit.
The door creaked behind him as he left.
Even as he came out there was nobody on the streets and the houses slowly diminished, he used the freedom that he had to swing his katana, he tested it.
Jason stopped walking, he shifted his feet and swung his katana diagonally.
It was light in his hands, almost as if it was an extension of his body.
"My new weapon."
Jason murmured to himself.
"Compared to my old one which one is better?"
He mused as he walked.
He had practiced with katanas throughout his youth, it was only natural for him to want to compare it to another weapon.
The only way to test it out would be to engage in a fight.
He could only put it back in his space ring for now.
Jason adjusted the red cloth on his neck as he walked, the buildings gradually becoming scarcer until they gradually became none.
He spotted four people in the distance as the light of the day gradually darkened.
"They are here."
He didn’t quicken his pace he continued, he walked leisurely as he checked the surroundings.
"All of them are here, and they’re the only ones."
He noted.
Asahi was the first to speak as he came in range.
"Y- your eyes..."
He stuttered with his words as he saw Jason, who was visibly unscathed.
He was surprised that Jason came back by himself, it was even more spectacular that both his eyes were okay.
The very same eyes that had been stabbed through with twin daggers.
’He doesn’t seem to notice that I’ve clothes.’
"They’re alright."
Jason finished the words for him.
Unlike Asahi, the rest were not surprised by Jason’s recovery.
It was only Asahi that was shocked, indicating that he did not know about Lyra’s power to heal. He was only aware of her destructive capabilities, not of her supportive ones.
"I recovered my eyes because I could."
He chose not to divulge it since they hadn’t already told him, he chose to answer the boy vaguely.
"You’re here."
Sean said, stating the obvious.
His eyes scanned Jason from head to toe, noting the change in clothing.
He sounded displeased.
"I was going to pick you up, but since you’re better we should go along with the plan."
Kira said.
"What plan?"
Jason couldn’t help but ask.
"We’re leaving."
’Already?’
Jason didn’t speak out loud.
And he didn’t have any qualms with leaving this early.
After all, they had just arrived but they were attacked as soon as they arrived, he had even lost some eyes some hours ago.
Permanently.
Leaving this town was for the better.
’If we’re leaving, how will we get a guard to open the veil?’
The veil couldn’t be passed unless it was opened, and the only one who could open the veil was a guard.
"How?"
Simultaneously, all four pairs of eyes turned towards him.
"If we want to leave, we’ll have to force them."
Once again, Jason couldn’t help but ask.
"How?"
Kira’s eyes showed a dangerous glint, as if his eyes were answering Jason’s questions.
’Is he going to...’
He didn’t finish the thought.
"We might have to assassinate the mayor of this settlement."
