Chapter 136: Eyes Lost (1)
Chapter 136: Eyes Lost (1)
He wasn’t able to block in time, his eyes had closed shut. But even then, the dagger had gone through, puncturing his eyes.
Jason couldn’t see, but he could hear and feel.
The pain in his eyes was immense considering that two daggers had just gone straight through them.
He punched.
’Delayed Fist.’
He packed all the strength he could muster in that moment into that single blow.
This attack looked like the most painful way to kill someone, so he used it.
He aimed at the center, his fist coming in contact with her guts.
There was nothing, the woman hardly felt anything and she expected that.
After all, the person in front of her was dark-skinned and she was a rank 2 awakened. There should be a large power gap between them, one that shouldn’t be able to be crossed in a single lifetime.
"How could someone this weak take both of them out?"
The woman murmured to herself as he pulled out both of the daggers, leaving Jason to stagger backwards.
*Bang
She popped.
Her body popped open with a loud bang, guts, intestines, blood, everything came out.
The corpse fell backwards after losing its upper body, the remnants of its body hitting both the guard the woman had rescued and Jason himself.
But he couldn’t even focus. He fell to his knees, both hands on both eyes.
He couldn’t see, he was in a world of eternal darkness. And the pain didn’t make anything better.
He fell onto his knees, still holding the area over his eyes as he battled with the pain.
’I need to do something about those two.’
The scarlet red liquid dripped down his eyes, staining his clothes.
He tried to stand up, but he found it an almost impossible task.
’I need to get up.’
The pain in his eyes blinded his senses.
He had experienced pain before, but he had not adapted to the sensation. Not only did he experience it, he couldn’t see anything.
His vision was gone, just like that.
But his ears, they could hear what was happening behind him, and that made his situation slightly better.
The other guards had been disposed of.
However, even though he knew that, he couldn’t calm down.
"Are you alright?"
Kira asked, coming over to him.
"No."
The boy put an arm under him, ignoring the blood still dripping down his eyes.
Jason didn’t resist.
As soon as he had entered this new settlement he discovered that their hospitality was different from the former one they had visited, and not soon after he had his eyes stabbed through by the same person that had welcomed him inside.
He could only trust that Kira would take him somewhere safe.
"Where are we going?"
He was blind.
But even then, he could tell that if they were leaving the settlement they should have turned around by now.
But they were still going in a straight line.
"A safe place."
He replied.
Jason chose not to pry any further, instead he tried to pressure both eyes with his left hand.
’I’ve lost both eyes.’
Jason thought.
It wasn’t just a single eye, instead both eyes had been stabbed through, rendering him blind.
’Maybe I could heal it with a potion.’
He wanted to try that but a particular part in the novel came into his mind.
’That guy got the same treatment as me and event though he had a higher grade healing potion than I did, it didn’t work.’
He recalled the tragic fate of one of main characters in the novel, how he had gotten into the situation that had led to his death.
’He had a better healing potion than I do but it didn’t work for him.’
The pain had gone down a little after a white cloth had been tied around his eyes, but even then he was trying to apply more pressure.
He chose not to question him any further and instead focused on his footwork.
"I’m sorry."
"For what?"
Jason asked.
"I didn’t tell you to stop and that’s why you lost your eye."
If it were normal circumstances, he would have acted differently.
But now...
"Why did they attack us?"
He focused hard to ignore what he felt in the place where his eyes used to be.
"The civilian-clan war."
That was the answer.
’Civilian clan war?’
He remembered that Kira had said something about that when they met.
He was about to inquire further when he suddenly gripped his eyes, lurching over as if he wanted to vomit.
The white cloth turned red, absorbing the blood that oozed out from his eye sockets.
’Damn it.’
Jason thought.
He stopped gripping his head and dropped his hand.
"I’ve never heard of it."
Jason managed to say, he had grown accustomed to certain thinks being different from what was in the history books.
In this case, such a thing was never mentioned in them.
Kira took it upon himself to explain to him even though what he was saying was common knowledge.
"The era we’re in is known as the Warring States era due to the war between the civilians and the clans.
The only reason it was formed was because the civilians claimed that the clans took the blessings that should have been given to everyone."
He explained.
Jason managed a slight nod to indicate that he was listening.
"Some of the settlements aren’t involved in it, but most of them are. I thought that this one wasn’t involved, if I had known I wouldn’t have brought us to this one and moved on.
Even though the Hachiman clan aren’t a big clan, the settlements that are part of the Warring States have a bingo book for all the clans."
"Well, we’re here now."
He was trying to think positively, but even then it seemed like he was blaming Kira.
He pressed his left hand against the covering on his eyes again.
Suddenly, Kira jumped.
The violent movement caught Jason off-guard.
They landed on what seemed to be a roof and continued a bit more faster than before.
"Are the others with us?"
"Some."
’Why is he lying?’
Jason could clearly hear that only the both of them were on the roof.
’Or did they not take the same path with us.’
"We separated, but we’ll meet again."
He said.
But Jason could feel that his focus wasn’t on him.
To Jason, the ride was bumpy, with sudden movements that he couldn’t predict. And with the pain in his eyes, he found it hard to do anything except asking questions.
Finally, they reached their destination.
He was promptly laid down on the ground, but they didn’t bother to take off the cloth on his eyes. It was soaked in blood, even the part tied around the back of his head wasn’t spared.
He heard footsteps.
"Where are you going?"
It didn’t take much to figure out that Kira was leaving him alone in this place.
"Don’t worry, she’s coming."
"Wait. What’s her name?"
Kira turned his head to Jason’s direction, but the boy couldn’t see that.
"She’s Lyra."
He walked away, leaving Jason with his own thoughts to deal with.
’Is she going to heal me?’
Jason knew that he wouldn’t stay down for long.
As time went by, the pain in his eyes gradually decreased. Now, it was at a manageable level.
He slowly got up.
As he stood up, he put his hands forward.
’The Null eyes are gone.’
He couldn’t help but think.
Jason tried to call up his status, but he couldn’t see anything.
’Damn.’
He couldn’t even see if Null eyes was still a talent he had.
That made the system quite useless now, since he needed eyes to see its screen he couldn’t use it.
’What kind of day is this?’
He would have said it out loud, but he refrained from doing so.
He didn’t know where he was so it would be best if he didn’t open his mouth.
’The first thing I get is an ambush and two daggers to my eyes.’
The A-dungeon was harder than he expected.
He tried to think positively.
’But he told me she’s coming, does he mean she’s coming to heal my eyes?’
He was trying to be hopeful.
’She’s healed me before, so...’
Jason was trying to cling on to the thought that there was someone who could help him.
He grabbed his head, sitting down on the ground.
Short bursts of pain in his eyes.
When he finally stopped, the white cloth was in a worse situation than before. It was soaked with blood dripping out of it.
’When is she coming?’
He could only think.
"Lie down if you’re ready."
Jason recognized the voice.
"Are you going to heal my eyes?"
He asked.
"Lie down if you’re ready."
She repeated, her tone indifferent as she ignored his question.
Jason slowly laid down on the hard ground.
He heard her footsteps as he approached her.
Lyra crouched and held a hand a little over the same eyes that had been punctured by daggers. She didn’t even bother removing the white cloth that had been dyed in crimson red.
Green energy emanated from her palm as she worked.
’Is she doing anything?’
Jason couldn’t help but think.
He noticed nothing, and he didn’t even know if she had started yet. It made him anxious in a way.
He could only wait.
’If its like last time when I couldn’t feel anything then that must mean she’s doing something.’
This thought was his sole pacifier as he laid down alone in a foreign place, hoping that she could restore his vision.
