Chapter 134: A Familiar Sight

He hit the ground head-first, causing a minor headache.

The head-ache combined with the sharp pain in his chest, and his lack of oxygen.

He was suffering.

He was also dizzy.

The aftermath of the breathing technique also came when he neglected his breathing.

And during that brief moment when the body of the Frost Maggot exploded, he had stopped his breathing.

Now, the effects came to haunt him.

’I can’t close my eyes!’

All he wanted to do was close his eyes, curl into a ball and endure the pain.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t move a single muscle in his body.

And his eyes were wide open, he couldn’t close them.

He could only watch the battle that was unfolding while enduring the pain in his heart.

...Kira’s Point Of View

He gently dropped his brother on a tree, putting his back to lean against the wall.

The only reason he was able to move fast enough was because he realized something, by using heat manipulation internally, he was able to burn through the effects of Frost Bite.

The boy whom once had some flesh on his skin was now bony, looking undernourished.

In other words, the only difference between Sean and a skeleton was that one of them couldn’t use mana.

The Frost Maggots had done a number on him.

The boy was fast asleep but no sounds came out from him. If Kira didn’t know better he would have thought his brother was dead.

With a huff, he leaped away.

’Now, she should take over.’

The Frost Maggots weren’t a threat when they enclosed in a circle, they were at their weakest in that state.

They were at their strongest when they buzzed around, without any coordination, just relying solely on their instincts.

When he arrived back at the battleground, he saw how much of a mess it was.

There were only about 200 Frost Maggots, while that would prove quite a bit trouble for Asahi, he would be able to take them out.

Considering that he had been holding back for quite a while so as to not hit Sean, facing the amount of 200 of the Frost Maggots shouldn’t pose a huge problem for him.

But his thoughts were the exact opposite of the real situation.

The Frost Maggots swarmed around two people; Asahi and Jason.

One was lying immobile on the ground, unable to do anything while the other one was constantly killing the Frost Maggots that got near him.

The maggots that swarmed towards him tried to bite into his skin, but they were unable.

Asahi wasn’t as lucky as Jason, the maggots bit into him, decreasing his speed as he struggled to deal with them.

Only about fifty maggots swarmed Jason and even then they quickly lost interest in him after failing to pierce his skin, instead choosing to swarm towards Asahi.

’I need to help him.’

Kira thought.

But even then, he wasn’t in much of a better situation that Asahi.

’He’s swarmed by maggots.’

It was the same situation with Sean.

He could use Wind Magic, Fire Magic, Water Magic and the others in different situations.

But if he did in this one, he would only hit Asahi.

Kira quickly concentrated, mana gathering at his fingertips.

He focused, creating the attack he wanted to use in his mental landscape.

He swiped his hands at the air, forming an X with twin wind blades.

The attacks soared through the air and cleanly reached their target.

At least two dozens of maggots were split in half, and even Asahi wasn’t spared from his attack.

A deep wound, at which poured poured out profusely.

Running from the side of his abdomen.

The Frost Maggots noticed Kira, their buzzing intensified as they swarmed towards him.

Only a few maggots remained near Asahi, the rest swarmed towards him with bloodthirsty intentions.

He jumped, not taking his eyes off the maggots.

’Diving into them won’t work.’

From the thousand of maggots that had gathered there were only three hundred left.

However, dealing with them would be a problem, the only thing he could do was act accordingly...

’But I also can’t lead them to Sean.’

He jumped off the tree his focus still on gathering mana at his fingertips. He wanted to use another twin wind blade.

He missed the next branch entirely as his focus was entirely on using magic.

He was falling.

Kira quickly poured all the mana into his feet. He flipped in the air, the wind howling around him.

He jumped, using the wind as a platform.

Again.

Again.

The maggots followed him, their buzzing getting eerily closer to him.

Only a few remained on Asahi and none remained on Jason, it was clear that Kira was the point of interest.

To the monsters, he was rich in many nutrients.

’Three is still my limit.’

Kira thought as he descended.

He readied his arms.

And then sliced through the air with them in a cross manner, two visible wind blades immediately formed.

They traveled through the air quickly, cutting through the monsters that were swarming towards him.

The Frost Maggots were split in half, blue blood rained from the sky.

Jason was drenched in the blood as he was directly above them, but the maggots chose to ignore him due to the fact that they couldn’t pierce through his skin.

A moment later, the bodies of the Frost Maggots came raining down along with the blood.

Kira couldn’t jump anymore and he couldn’t create any more attacks fast enough in his mindscape.

He fell into the swarm.

However, before any maggot could bite into him, he was suddenly pushed by an unseen force.

His body was propelled into a tree, slamming into its tough trunk.

The tree was apparently unscathed, but the same could not be said for Kira.

Despite the pain in his back, he grabbed the trunk of the tree, using it to slow down his fall.

His gaze was focused on the sight before him.

’You finally decided to join.’

He thought.

Despite everything he had faced today, the corner of his lips turned upwards.

The Frost Maggots; both the ones in flight and the ones clinging to Asahi felt involuntarily pulled towards into the center.

One by one, they formed a ball, a ball created by them.

Gradually the ball began to grow bigger as more Frost Maggots joined the fray.

’That is all of them.’

Kira thought.

His eyes scanned the surrounding but failed to see any maggots.

"What is...?"

He failed to finish the words.

While there were no maggots in the vicinity, that didn’t mean that there weren’t any maggots further ahead.

’Is the forest really that wide.’

If his guess was correct, the one thousand maggots that they had seen didn’t even make a quarter of the population.

"Is this why this place is as feared as a rank 0 dungeon?"

He couldn’t believe his eyes.

His expression morphed into disbelief, confusion clouding his features.

’Would we really survive if we continued jumping?’

He and Sean would survive, but the two other people who were forced to make complex maneuvers and still avoided the maggots.

Would they still survive?

He couldn’t help but think about that as swarms upon swarms of maggots were pulled towards his location, forming a ball.

"They’re still under it."

He jumped down from the tree, breaking into a mad sprint towards Asahi and Jason.

Asahi was dumbstruck by what was happening above, he had never seen magic being used at this scale.

Someone suddenly grabbed him, throwing him onto their shoulder.

"Don’t move."

Kira ordered.

He would have used wind magic, but he wouldn’t be able to stop quick enough.

He quickly sprinted over to Jason, and without a care threw onto his shoulder.

With both of them in on his shoulder, he leaped towards the tree.

...

Jason couldn’t move, his body was limp, even as Kira threw him onto the shoulder he could feel nothing.

’There’s something about that.’

He thought, his brows furrowing ever so slightly.

Even he didn’t know that there were this many Frost Maggots in the forest, it made evading all of them look like an impossible task.

But even then he couldn’t help but think about the amount of mana required to pull something off.

The pain that was eating at him took his attention, but not to the extent it did before.

His mind seemed to ignore the pain.

Jason couldn’t help but dread the sight in front of him.

’It seems familiar to something I’ve seen before.’

He had near-perfect memory, he wasn’t forgetting anything.

But while it did seem similar to it, this one had a few glaring differences.

’Lyra...’

He thought as Kira leaped into one of the branches with him and Asahi on a shoulder each.

The boy then began to leap from branch to branch trying to get as high as possible.

’She seems a lot similar to her.’

As the last of the maggots formed the large writhing ball of monsters in the sky, she decided to destroy it.

’It seems like I underestimated the power of magic at late stage 9.’

Kira leaped again, using wind magic to jump into the sky yet again, ignoring the stupidly high amount it took with Jason this close to him.

Again.

’Now.’

Jason thought.

The process seemed to familiar to him, like he had seen it before.

Except, it only required a single person.

’She reminds me of her by quite a bit.’

The writhing ball of Frost Maggots exploded.

’She reminds me of her, indeed...’
