Chapter 125: Release!

The system had only given him Asahi as his full name during their fight, that time, he didn’t think much about it.

Then there was also that one called Grey, the system didn’t give him a surname.

’There’s something about these surnames.’

He had never thought he would have to deal with something like surnames.

"You’re lying."

And the person he was talking to now found it hard to believe him.

The healing potion only healed wounds, it did not help with faigue. But even then, Asahi didn’t seem to care.

"Wait."

Jason put a hand on him, just a split-second before he burst through the wall.

To move this fast; fast enough to even shock someone with the same physical stat with him, he had to use Quick Evasive Steps.

Obviously, his own confusion about surnames made it hard for the person he was trying to confuse believe him.

Asahi stopped in his tracks, just a split-second away from ramming through the wall.

"I’m not lying."

Now, it would be even harder to convince this person.

"I’m from the Hachiman clan, but because of my skin and my unique ability to grow stronger, I was sheltered."

Asahi wasn’t convinced, he quickly threw Jason’s hands off him and spaced closer to the wall.

Jason too, shifted back and continued.

"Because of that, I wasn’t allowed to leave even my leaving quarters. I was barely taught anything, only how to fight, but I had always desired to see the outside world.

So, on one night, when the security was the most lax, I escaped that place and traveled around the world.

I prefer not to mention the clan because I have many bad memories there."

He was lying.

But at the same time, he was also telling the truth.

He was combining the truth with lies he spun, trying to make himself seem like a pitiable individual.

Seeing that he was done with his talk, Asahi moved in a sudden motion, ramming through the wall.

’That...’

Dust swirled up as he broke through it.

Jason moved to follow him, but he stopped as the figure who had ram through the wall re-entered, scratching his head.

He seemed embarrassed, as if he had just made a fool of himself.

"I believe you."

He said sheepishly, laughing a bit at his own wrongdoings.

’What kind of strange person is this?’

But thinking about it, it did indeed fit the personality of the same person whom he had fought with.

"Why?"

Jason asked in a deadpan tone.

He laughed sheepishly.

"I thought that this place was a gathering of corrupted humans and I wanted to kill everyone I found inside here, but instead I found normal humans."

’He never believed me.’

He had always planned to jump out of the building.

"What did you expect, dark-skinned humans?"

Jason remarked dryly.

Even if he had gotten this person to trust him, he still couldn’t believe that he wasn’t trusted from the beginning.

’I’m a horrible liar.’

He failed to even convince this guy that he was a good person.

Asahi laughed sheepishly once again.

He brought his hand down from his head.

"You’re really a honest guy, even if you had that other guy with you, normally the guards at a settlement shouldn’t even have allowed you pass."

Jason stared at him.

’I regret not killing him, even if he’s the supposed first civilian rank 0 awakened.’

This guy was casually saying that the guards should have driven him away because of his skin color.

"When will you be leaving?"

Jason casually asked, adopting Kira’s tone.

"You tried to kill the two of us, called us corrupted humans, destroyed my clothing and cut his arm off, even then you were lamenting on how it should have cut his head off instead.

It’s only natural that I ask you this question."

Asahi sighed.

"I don’t know. If I’m being honest, when I found out that you weren’t a corrupted human, I was considering following the both of you on your adventure."

He admitted.

"How did you know that we were traveling?"

Jason questioned.

"Your skills; the both of you wouldn’t be this strong if you weren’t traveling."

He answered sincerely.

’Is that so?’

"Don’t you have people you’re staying with?"

Jason asked.

According to his knowledge, this was the first civilian awakener.

He could have people with him.

But Asahi’s expression turned somber when Jason talked about people.

It was as if all the cheerfulness in him had been sucked out, replaced by sadness.

’His former team probably died.’

He sat on the ground.

Jason, expecting a story, went to the chair and sat on it.

He let out a sigh, as if he was drowning in sadness.

"You know the monsters started appearing at half of the world, right?"

Jason nodded his head.

"I was born in that side of the world, but very close to the other side where humans were.

My parents were people who had been abandoned and left dead but they managed to survive. During my time of death, my mother gave birth to twins, and even though we would only slow them down, they took care of us.

They were planning to get to the other half of the wall, where the borders were erected, but the journey took years because of the constant hiding to avoid the detection of monsters."

He sighed again, being overcome by overwhelming sadness.

"By the time we were close to the borders, it had already taken seven years.

Both me and my sister were seven years old.

And it was on our birthday that my parents were attacked by a rank 3 monster, brutally slaughtered and killed in front of our very eyes."

Jason understood that as he recalled the memories, he could feel the grief coming back to hit him in waves.

"My sister, seeing our parents brutally eaten, had an awakening. I don’t know which rank since she didn’t live much longer either.

She died shortly after...

At her death... I too, had an awakening.

I believe that it was a rank 1 awakening.

And then I had charged into death as well, only to be killed quickly after."

He stopped to let out another sigh, a tear slipping down his wet eyes.

Jason felt that he was purposely stalling.

’How is he alive if he died?’

A paradox?...

Or, a corrupted human.

’And a rank 1 awakening?’

This guy had rank 0 strength.

He couldn’t have a had a rank 1 awakening.

"After my death, I got turned into a corrupted human... I fainted.

And when I woke up, I saw myself in a human settlement on this side of the world, a normal human being."

He completed retelling his past.

And Jason was left befuddled, not able to believe the very words he had heard.

He took a moment to recollect himself.

"I’m sorry."

In order not to seem like a bad person, he had to comfort Asahi.

"Don’t worry about it, I just want to ask if I can join the both of you."

He was saddened as he recalled his past experience, but he still managed to stop himself from breaking into a sobbing mess.

Jason did not understand this because he had never cried for someone, not even when he left everyone he knew in his past life or when Emily died.

"I guess you could stay with us, but that isn’t my decision to make, you’ll have to be useful-"

"I’m useful."

He said quickly, interrupting Jason mid process.

He didn’t need Asahi to tell him that as he himself had witnessed his magical prowess.

"As I was saying, you’ll have to be useful, but since you already fit the criteria, I’ll plead with the others to allow you join."

Asahi’s mind seemed fixated on the fact that Jason had said he would plead to allow him join.

"Thank you."

’He didn’t even inquire about where we were heading, didn’t even ask about how many people were inside already, he was just happy that I allowed him join?’

Jason would have shook his head but refrained from doing so.

’It must be the result of trauma and loneliness.’

"Anyway, do you have any special skills?"

Jason questioned.

Asahi saw this as an opportunity to better his chances of being allowed to join.

"I know four skills, two of which I used against you and your friend.

Apart from that I’m quite proficient in all the types of magic."

Jason shook his head.

’He’s just telling me most of what I already know.’

He wanted to know something else.

"But back then, you used a hot blow of wind from your lungs. How did you do it?"

Jason was only curious.

"Well..."

Asahi’s sadness seemed to have diminished significantly.

He was now acting as usual.

And he seemed hesitant to tell him about it.

"It’s the combination of both fire magic and wind magic."

Jason didn’t believe him.

He believed that it was a skill and he wanted to learn it.

"It’s really not a skill!"

Asahi quickly said, noticing Jason’s disbelief.

"First I use wind magic to gather all the air I can at my lungs, then I use fire magic to heat it up within my body, then I finally expel it in a force of fierce hot wind.

It’s actually really had to learn and it was almost impossible to create."

’His explanation actually makes sense.’

It was disappointing that he couldn’t learn how to do it.

"Do you have a name for it?"

"Of course, it’s called...

Release!"
