Chapter 123: Hunting (4)

Jason and Kira lunged at him, their movements coordinated.

They moved in circles, giving the enemy a harder time to pinpoint their location.

The figure, Asahi, quickly acted in response to their cooperation.

He imagined it, forming a fireball in his mind, and manipulating the mana at his fingertips.

"It takes a lot to do this while I’m next to this corrupted human."

The figure complained as he charged up.

It took a lot more mana than usual when he was close to Jason and wanted to use magic, it was the same when he blasted his hot wind – it had used more mana than it was supposed to.

Jason darted forward, moving in the circular pattern with Kira.

’A fireball.’

He briefly regarded the fireball in front of him and stopped his circling run. He charged straight ahead.

The fireball was weakened as he came closer to it.

It hit him, but failed to do any damage to him.

His clothes were already burned off.

Jason swung his three-sectioned-staff, wielding the weapon as if he wasn’t new to it.

The figure, Asahi, quickly raised his arm to block.

However, the weapon vanished.

His abdomen was open.

’Delayed Fist.’

Jason’s fist struck with tremendous force, but it failed to do substantial damage.

In fact, it failed to do anything at all.

Before the figure had time to react, a knee to the face sent him reeling backwards.

Kira had joined Jason on the attack.

A 2v1, with the ones teaming up both proficient in hand-to-hand combat.

Suddenly, the figure felt something

He almost fell to his knees, but managed to stay upright.

Jason quickly followed up with a spin kick.

The figure raised his hand at the last second, managing to block it.

But then, a knee violently connected with his back.

Thankfully, he wore armor, so it had little to no effect.

But they barely gave him any space to breathe.

"You’re pretty slick, aren’t ya?"

His words were ignored by the duo.

Jason continued the onslaught by thrusting his foot forward.

His opponent, the figure with long spiky black hair, sidestepped, completely evading the strike.

The figure spun around, aiming a counter kick at Jason’s stomach.

He brought his left hand down, bringing his head down as he grabbed the figure’s leg and pushing it sideways.

Kira came from above, connecting his knee with the figure, Asahi’s, face.

The boy grunted as he was pushed back.

Kira landed next to him, fully clothed and practically unscathed, save for some gashes on his skin. He had a particularly deep gash going on his upper body, but Jason knew it wasn’t as serious as it looked.

"He’s not in position yet."

Jason informed Kira.

He twisted his head to the right.

’We’ll need him around there, then we’ll be able to take him out."

Kira nodded before charging in again.

’He seems to be in control.’

Jason followed his lead.

’How are we so in sync?’

’We’ve never practiced before?’

’We shouldn’t be as coordinated as this.’

In the end, it was a passing thought and Jason had to dispel it.

Sparks surrounded the figure as he channeled his mana.

He wasn’t playing anymore, and thus decided to use lightning magic to speed up his movements, even though he knew he would have to use a lot more mana than usual.

’That’s good.’

A cruel grin formed on his lips.

He moved even faster than before!

’He’s digging his own grave with this.’

[Aerial Ace]

Asahi’s hands went to his waist, he grabbed his final dagger.

His body was propelled to the air by an unseen force, he twisted miraculously in the air, his weapon poised.

Wings that seemed to belong to bird monsters materialized on his shoulders.

Kira moved back in shock, but that was his mistake.

He poured mana throughout his entire body, not caring for how much he expended.

Asahi descended in a flash.

He landed a foot away from him, the wings on his shoulder dematerializng.

For a moment, nothing happened.

Jason didn’t bother looking, instead continuing his charge at his opponent.

Suddenly, Kira’s hand flew shot into the sky, propelled by the force of blood.

It was a moment of shock for him, he didn’t understand how his hand flew off.

"Damn it."

The figure cursed.

"Stupid skill, I should have used Z-charge instead."

The skill, Aerial Ace, was a skill that gave the user wings.

It could only be applied effectively when wielding a weapon as it had a single lacking shortcoming.

The user couldn’t control the wings, and if wielding a short sword or a dagger, they wouldn’t be able to land a decisive blow.

Unluckily, he was only able to cut off his opponent’s hand due to the wings that had a mind of their own.

Kira was shocked by the loss of his hand, but it was the least of his worries.

He could always heal his hand later.

Asahi stood straight, and suddenly, he saw Jason flash in front of him.

The expression the teenager had on his face, solidified his thoughts that both he and Kira were Corrupted humans.

A devilish smile.

One that seemed to be worn by the devil himself.

His fist connected with his opponent’s face, sending him staggering backwards.

Then, he continued, landing another punch on his opponent’s abdomen.

His feet shifted on the ground, his movements transitioning into a spin kick.

In just a single second, the figure had been hit with three consecutive attacks, each before he could even raise his defenses.

Kira quickly regained himself.

"She can heal me later."

He wanted to rush over to assist Jason, however he was unsure of which approach he could take to do it.

Jason delivered a brutal onslaught on the figure, that wasn’t the bad part, Kira himself was unsure of how to help.

He couldn’t use magic effectively because of Jason, and even then it would hit both of them.

The kind of fighting style Jason used was used in a 1v1 confrontation.

Jason feinted, pretending to aim for his head.

Instinctively, he used his forearm to block.

He left his torso open.

Jason immediately reacted, landing a swift kick to the figure’s midsection, propelling him backwards once again.

Jason put his foot down, putting his fists up.

He followed up, closing the distance between them with unfaltering speed.

The figure, Asahi, finally had breathing space, even if it was only for a single second.

"This is the strongest corrupted human I’ve ever faced..."

He murmured.

In that instant, he poured more mana throughout his body.

Lightning and wind magic.

Instead of using mana itself, he used both of the elements to boost his speed.

He was practically draining his mana instead of using it with Jason close to him.

Jason punched his abdomen, causing him to lean over his arm.

With the boost of lightning magic and wind magic, he recovered faster.

But it wasn’t fast enough.

Jason followed up, spinning around in an anti-clockwise rotation.

Asahi ducked, just in time.

He launched an uppercut, catching Jason off-guard.

His movements were fast, not strong.

Jason was only momentarily distorted.

They began exchanging blows.

With the figure’s use of mana, it turned from a one-sided fight to a fight between somewhat equal opponents.

They were somewhat equal.

But Jason was still better, as he was someone who trained in the ways of close-combat from a young age.

’I see it, the opening...’

He threw a spin kick, one which caught Asahi off-guard, making the youth stumble backwards.

’Now.’

Kira grabbed him from behind, using his only hand to hold the figure, Asahi, in place.

"What the..."

He barely had time to respond.

Forcing himself out of the grip of someone with one arm was easy.

He was about to force himself out, when he was suddenly flung backwards.

It was a moment of confusion, but then he realized it.

A grin played at the figure’s lips.

He moved with the wind, executing a back flip.

He landed gracefully in the snow, like a dancer.

He, Asahi, was finally given breathing space.

"I don’t have much mana left."

They weren’t enough to perform his secret moves.

"I’ll have to flee."

While his pride was dealt a major blow because he had to flee from "corrupted humans", he valued life more than anything else.

The bushes rustled.

His head turned to the source of the noise, but he was a second late.

The foot of Jason’s clone made contact with his head.

"He’s not going down."

Kira said, stating the obvious, his worry had gone from his bleeding limb.

"I noticed.."

Jason replied, his devilish grin was gone, replaced by a more human expression.

His mood turned sour.

"He poured all the mana he could into his head to protect himself from the impact."

Jason broke into a mad sprint, cursing at mana.

The figure’s vision was blurry as the kick from the clone really did affect him, he just managed to block some of the impact.

But even then, he could notice something approaching him...

Something brown.

The figure, Asahi, turned his head away and broke into a mad sprint as well!

But unfortunately for him, his head wasn’t in order; he stumbled several times because of his disordered head.

A pair of arms grabbed him from behind.

He was lifted off the ground.

Then, it was a violent movement.

His head came crashing into the ground, even the snow couldn’t help to lessen the impact.

He was knocked unconscious.

Jason had executed a German suplex.
