Chapter 122: Hunting (3)

The wind was knocked out of him as a head smashed into his abdomen.

He coughed out blood as he was sent barreling backwards, crashing into the snow.

The world spun around Jason.

Slowly, the world stopped spinning around him and he stood up slowly.

"That hurt... Stupid Z-charge."

Jason murmured, placing a hand on his head.

He had bad memory with Z-charge; it was the skill Zane had used in a sudden burst to cut off one of his fingers, and now it had just been used to knock him off his feet.

Such a skill could be used to change the tide of the battle in a sudden burst.

And unfortunately, he didn’t have it.

He focused on the figure.

Kira had engaged the figure in close-combat fight and they seemed evenly matched as they fought each other.

They would have been easily matched, but the figure wasn’t exactly talented in close-combat, and Kira had offhand.

His strength lied in magic.

’One of my clones was destroyed while the other moved back when it realized what that person was doing.’

Jason had to admit that it was the best course of action.

But its hiding choice wasn’t exactly unique because from where he was, he was able to see his clone, and then deduced everything his double had taken.

’Where is my dagger?’

Jason wondered.

It had flown from his hands after he had gotten

His eyes moved around the battlefield, trying to pinpoint the location of his dagger.

But he couldn’t find it. The dagger had seemingly vanished.

’This is just great.’

He refocused on the battle that was currently ongoing.

Kira, who once had the upper hand was now being pushed back.

Gashes appeared on his skin, cuts on his face, and his clothes torn.

’Lightning.’

Jason thought.

He was using lightning magic to boost his speed.

Without a second thought, Jason darted towards the figure.

His space ring glowed as his last weapon materialized in his hand.

’It’ll have to do.’

The figure noticed his appearance, but during that brief moment of distraction, Kira aimed to cut his head in half.

The figure tilted his head at the last second, only ending up with a small cut on his face.

He immediately refocused his attention on his opponent, prepared to end this "corrupted human".

He moved even quicker, electricity sparking around him. This only prompted Kira to use his own mana to boost himself.

The figure back flipped, he leaped high into the air just in time to avoid a slash meant to decapitate him.

Jason leaped.

He twisted in the air, his weapon moving along with him.

His arms were poised as he swung it forward.

The figure clasped both hands together

The lightning around him dispersed, as if removed by an invisible force.

The mana he had been building up outside him was reduced significantly, if not for the amount of mana he was using was large, all of it would have been gone.

His brows furrowed, but still he carried out what he originally intended to do.

"Rele-"

Jason’s weapon struck home, on his opponents shoulder.

The figure’s words were cut short as he was sent flying downwards before he even knew what hit him. He crashed into the ground, dazed.

Jason landed next to Kira, still holding his three-sectioned-staff.

"Are you alright?"

Jason asked.

"I’m fine."

Was the response.

"But he’s strong and has skills, he’s obviously a notch above other corrupted humans.

If we want to kill him, we’ll need to work together."

Jason could only nod in response.

"But, maybe he’s not a corrupted human. Why would a corrupted human call us corrupted humans if he was a corrupted human?"

Jason couldn’t help but question.

It seemed that Kira seemed to miss the whole reason why Jason ran after him.

"We can spare him, but that comes only after he’s knocked unconscious and he’s not a corrupted."

The figure regained himself, getting up on one feet.

"I have to admit, you really put up a good fight."

He wasn’t grinning anymore, his expression was serious.

Jason ignored him, as well as Kira.

"We’ll lure him over there."

Jason couldn’t point so the figure wouldn’t understand what they were talking about, but even then, Kira seemed to understand the place he was talking about as he focused on where Jason’s gaze was.

And he doubted the figure would intervene, as he would try to visualize and build up mana to use magic.

"I have a body double around that place, so when he’s at the perfect angle, my body double will appear and land a kick on his head that will knock him unconscious."

That was their plan.

While it would have been easier to just inflict so many wounds on him to the point where he could no longer fight, they lacked the weaponry.

Kira had thought it would be good to throw the weird daggers at him in an attempt to kill the figure.

But the figure was also well versed in that art.

"Okay."

Kira seemed to agree with the plan.

’Using the Null eyes will be the last resort.’

Both of them charged at him.

But by the time they were done, the figure was already done as well.

"Release!"

His words did not seem to be spoken from the mouth, it seemed as if the wind itself was speaking.

He back flipped into the air once more.

His lungs expanded, his chest puffed out abnormally.

To Jason and Kira, it looked like he was going to explode.

Then, he released it.

The wind howled.

He released hot air from his mouth, expelling all the oxygen that he had kept in his lungs, and now releasing the carbon dioxide.

"Move!"

Jason yelled, pushing Kira so the boy could begin moving.

And he went to the eye of the storm; Jason continued to run head-first into the howling winds.

The air the guy had expelled was hot, scorching even.

’Wind magic, or fire magic? Or maybe both?’

His thoughts were cut off as the heat finally reached him.

It was as if he had decided to go closer to the scorching sun.

His temperature soared high, even in the cold, and his clothes burned off.

It was weakened.

The technique the figure had used was weakened as it came in range with Jason, but even then, it had managed to exhibit such power.

The cold and Jason’s ability to repel mana; even with those two, Jason still felt his temperature rise and his clothes burned off, their ashes against his skin.

The wind did little to hinder his speed but it was effective.

Luckily, his weapon didn’t melt under the heat waves.

Jason leaped again.

The figure’s eyes widened for a split-second, however, he regained himself.

Using the air he was still expelling, he sent himself higher into the air. He effectively dodged Jason’s attack.

Jason landed awkwardly behind the figure, his feet sunk into the snow.

Steam rose from the ground at which he aimed at, the snow evaporated quickly.

In the cold, his temperature began to decrease.

Kira was poised at the side, seemingly preparing his magic.

’No time to waste.’

Now was the best time to strike.

He leaped again, this time aiming for the figure head.

He held his three-sectioned-staff, preparing to land a strike on the figure’s head to knock him unconscious.

The figure suddenly stopped expelling the wind from his mouth.

He instead focused his mana into his feet quickly, he knew time wasn’t on his side.

Using wind magic as a platform, he managed to back flip in the air.

Once again, he dodged Jason.

Their eyes met for a brief moment, a split-second understanding formed between them.

Jason realized something.

Now was the perfect time to activate the Null eyes.

’Screw this!’

The figure opened his mouth, Jason realized he didn’t have enough time.

His mind worked quickly, the adrenaline flowed through his body.

The time taken to activate the Null eyes, and ensnare his enemy in the Null...

That was too long, compared to the time it would take for the hot air to be released.

He had to act.

Jason was sent crashing into the ground.

He crashed feet-first, his legs dug into the ground.

The figure didn’t do much better much, crashing into the ground as well.

Jason slowly regained himself.

His temperature had skyrocketed again.

The figure regained himself, feeling a stinging pain from his other shoulder. The wound that Jason had given him was still open, but it had stopped bleeding long ago.

As soon as the figure regained himself, a large ball of flames was sent hurling towards him.

The heat emanating from the flames did not go unnoticed by him, he turned his head sideways.

And then, he let out a tremendous blast of water.

The ball of fire and the blast of water met. They both canceled out each other.

’How does this guy do it?’

His chest had been slashed open, got hit twice on both shoulders, yet he was still able to move and use magic without hindrance.

Kira used the small opening to regroup with him.

"Are you alright?"

Jason shook his head.

"I might be, but my clothes aren’t."

He was almost stripped bare.

"But, we’ll still have to go as planned."

Kira nodded.

Jason shook his head as he focused, getting into a sprinting stance.

"What are you doing, corrupted humans?"

’So he still thinks so...’

He didn’t bother saying he wasn’t a corrupted human.

Instead, he replied with one word.

"Hunting."
