Chapter 121: Hunting (2)

The crunch of snow between boots broke the silence in the forest.

Sometimes, it was followed by the occasional cry of an earthworm as it sprouted out from underground.

Each breath puffed out in visible clouds, and the cold was getting unbearable because of the kind of clothing they wore.

’We’ve been running for at least an hour without rest and still no monster.’

He wondered about how Sean kept up with Kira when he moved.

’He probably carries him.’

A small smile formed at his lips, but it quickly left.

"We should head back."

Jason voiced out.

However, Kira ignored his words, even moving faster than before.

’This guy, he’s ignoring me.’

Jason sped up to catch up to him.

"If we stay out here we might freeze to death, and we haven’t even been able to find any prey."

Awakened or not, everything and everyone had a limit to how far they can push themselves. And they had been running for an hour without rest, yet they didn’t even feel any heat.

"Stop here."

The boy stopped moving.

Jason followed.

"Shh, there’s someone here"

Kira said quietly.

Jason scanned the surroundings, his eyes glancing past the bushes covered in snow and the large trees.

He couldn’t detect anything.

"Look higher." Kira whispered silently.

Jason looked up, searching the trees instead.

His gaze rested on a particular tree not too far away from them.

The leaves at the very top, there was something strange about it.

"That has to be a corrupted human."

Kira said silently, already drawing his weapon.

"I doubt it can see us because it doesn’t have sharp eyes, but it should be able to sense my mana."

Kira’s eyes shone with a dangerous glint as he threw his weapon forward.

The weapon soared through the air, it had been expertly aimed to pierce the figure’s heart.

The leaves on the tree rustled as something jumped out of the tree, it spun in the air as it threw its own weapon.

Both weapons; the strange daggers Jason had found, met in the air and clanged against each other.

Their trajectory’s changed.

"Its a corrupted human so keep your guard up."

Kira warned Jason.

The figure fell gracefully on the ground, landing just a few meters away from them. His long spiky hair finally came down after he had landed.

The figure wore black armor, finishing the look with a black robe that fell to his foot.

Jason pressured his space ring, bringing out his dagger.

If it was up to him, he would have used a katana here, but there were no blacksmiths in the town. And the only weapons on sale were swords and the weird daggers.

[Name: Asahi Kyrios

"A corrupted human, indeed."

Jason murmured.

He found it hard to believe what he saw.

’He’s talents are all the elements.’

None of them humans he had encountered had mastery over all the elements.

Even the clan head, whom was the strongest person currently knew, didn’t have the five elements under his skills list.

"This fight, I should be able to handle it myself."

Kira looked at him in disbelief.

"You’re overconfident, you should keep your pride in check."

He rejected Jason’s words outright.

"I can do this myself." Kira said.

Jason stared at the boy, his expression unreadable.

’You’re just being hypocritical.’

He thought.

Before they could continue, a voice cut them off.

"You’re corrupted humans, aren’t you?"

The figure in front of them asked, his tone proud.

It wasn’t a question that was being asked, it was as if the figure was proclaiming it.

In other words, it was a rhetoric question.

"Were not corrupted humans."

Jason said quickly.

’Are corrupted humans that common?’

He wondered.

The figure raised an eyebrow at him.

"So you’re a high-ranking one?"

The figure was amused.

"Tell me, what rank were you when you died?"

He seemed to have ignored Jason’s words thoroughly and only focused on the fact that he could speak.

’Is this guy stupid?’

"Why do you think we’re corrupted?"

The figure smirked widely, as if he was waiting for this chance.

"You’re black."

The figure grinned widely.

Jason’s expression darkened as the words reached his ears.

He forced a smile.

"You’re eyes are quite sharp, aren’t they?"

Jason complimented him, but his tone was anything but encouraging.

’Quick Evasive Steps.’

He vanished from his position, a brief afterimage replacing him the spot, but even then it was gone in a flash.

Jason closed the distance between both of them in a flash.

’Breathing Technique. Blade Strike.’

He regulated his breathing, activating the Breathing technique as he swung his dagger down.

But he noticed something.

The figure’s eyes, they were moving faster than his body...

Following his movements perfectly, but his body was too slow.

The dagger cut through the armor easily, like hot knife through butter.

And through the figure’s flesh as well, drawing blood almost instantly.

Jason moved backwards quickly.

"Stupid racist."

Jason muttered.

He had experienced racism before, a couple of times, when in the clan. And the most recent time he had reacted, smashing the woman’s face into the ground.

Now, he had disregarded everything and went straight for the attack without thinking. Even activating Quick Evasive Steps, the Breathing technique, and using Blade Strike in one go, without even bothering to gauge his enemy’s abilities.

’This could be a problem.’

Jason thought, chiding himself mentally for rushing straight ahead.

’Next time someone does that, I might actually use War God’s Embrace.’

That was a scary thought.

The figure fell to his knees.

A deep gash ran through his chest.

Blood poured out from the wound. It mingled with the snow on the ground, dying them in crimson red.

A snowflake landed on Jason’s nose, making him realize that he had taken out someone of his caliber so easily.

’Maybe I should be more reckless.’

If it helped him take out enemies easier, he would do it.

"Move, he’s charging up his magic!"

The snow kicked up as Kira darted past him.

Jason moved.

’Quick Evasive Steps.’

His speed surpassed Kira’s, he moved quicker than Kira and soon reached his target.

Jason brought his dagger down, he was prepared to stab down into his head, ending his life.

But the figure rolled out of the way.

He exhibited a speed that seemed too fast for someone at his current strength.

The dagger cut through air, unable to reach its target.

’Damn it.’

The figure quickly got up and began running.

Kira had to slow down before he could make a sharp turn.

’This guy, he could have dodged my first attack but instead chose to allow it hit him so he would have time to prepare his magic.’

Jason wanted to activate Quick Evasive Steps, but he chose not to.

He ran after the figure.

’Terrible Cloning.’

Two identical body doubles of him appeared next to him, in a second they moved.

He was going to corner him with his clones.

The figure stopped moving, turning his back to face Jason.

"You’re pretty good, if I didn’t use a tenth out of my mana and two skills I would have been done for."

’Does he think I’m stupid?’

Jason wondered.

Both clones encircled the figure, making it sure that he would have to face one of them before he could pass.

’Now.’

Jason took off with a burst of explosive speed.

While it wasn’t as fast as his Quick Evasive Steps, it was enough.

The figure warily glanced at the two clones, each coming from different sides, and the real body coming straight-ahead.

"So you use something as special as this?"

The figure questioned.

"I wonder, which one of you is the real one."

The figure’s hand went to his waist, his movements were quick as he procured two daggers. He performed a back flip as he released both daggers.

The first one flew, deflecting one that had come from his back. The second one went straight into one of the clones, making it disappear before it could even react.

"Now!"

The figure declared as he landed, dropping both of his hands to the ground.

Jason was just a foot away from him.

"Z-Charge!"

The figure yelled out loud.

He charged forward, quickly transitioning from his running stance on the ground.

He rammed into Jason, ramming straight into him, knocking him off his feet with the activation of the skill.

Jason couldn’t believe his eyes, the breath knocked out of him as his assailant’s head rammed straight into his abdomen.

’Isn’t that...’

He couldn’t help, even when he had just been rammed.

He remembered this skill.
