Chapter 118: His Name Is Hereon (3)

...

Hereon closed his eyes as he saw the world spinning around him.

When he opened them, he found himself in a completely different place.

But it wasn’t as lavish as he expected it to be,.It seemed to be situated underground.

He took a moment to collect himself as he stared at the walls.

"Don’t worry!"

The man still had his cheerful attitude with him.

"This is only the meeting hall, once you become an official member you’ll obviously get a better place."

Hereon processed his words.

’Once I become an official member, does that mean there are others?’

He wanted to ask the question out loud but he had to refrained from doing so.

There weren’t any doors in this place, but there were dark corners in which seemed to lead to somewhere else.

Just then, a figure walked through one of the dark corners.

It was a woman with long green hair that went past her shoulders, dark eyes and a snub nose.

He had to admit that she was attractive.

The man, after seeing her arrive, waved joyfully at her.

"Hey Aria, look at this, I finally got one!"

She frowned at him.

"Keep it down."

The woman turned to Hereon, her eyes observing him for a brief moment.

"He’s a kid."

She finally said, stating it bluntly.

"Weren’t you supposed to find a disposable guard that we could use?"

Hereon’s heart raced at her words.

’Disposable?’

He was offered the chance to become stronger.

Her words didn’t align with what he was told.

"Would you believe me if I said I tried?"

He scratched his head, embarrassed.

"No."

The man threw his hands forward.

"I really did! It’s just that there’s a pact on every awakened in the Hachiman clan to never betray their clan or they would die.

And it just so turns out that being used against their will is also a form of betrayal, so..."

It was already clear.

"So... I slaughtered most of the guards and maids in the vicinity and dumped their body somewhere... But on the plus side, I got us Hereon Hachiman."

The man finished, slapping Hereon on the back.

’So he’s the reason they weren’t around.’

"Hereon Hachiman?"

"Yup."

He flashed her a thumbs-up.

"And also, you don’t have anything to worry about on this guy, and the best part is that we can nurture him into becoming one of us."

The woman looked at him skeptically.

"How did even enter the Hachiman clan?"

"Its simple, the clan guardian wasn’t around."

"Is that so?"

She walked.

The woman extended her hand to Hereon.

"My name is Aria."

Hereon had no choice but to accept her hand.

She shook his hand firmly before letting go.

"Since you’re here we should begin with the extraction process."

Hereon’s face morphed into confusion.

"Didn’t you tell him about the extraction process? I thought you wanted to recruit him."

She looked back at him.

The man quickly waved his hand in defense.

"Its not my fault, I forgot."

The woman sighed, clearly not amused by the man’s antics.

He behaved like an overactive child, and she was sure that everything he did was intentional.

She let out a sigh.

"Tell me about it, then. I’l go inform the others, you have an hour before it starts."

The woman went back through the dark corners of the place.

Hereon’s life had taken an unexpected twist.

From a single day in the Hachiman clan compound, he had been kidnapped with his own consent and taken to a strange place.

’Will I survive this?

Just moments ago, he had been intrigued by the words the man told him. Now, what the woman had told him was a stark contrast to what the man had been told.

An extraction process? He didn’t want to take part in that.

But he didn’t have a choice.

In just one evening, his fate was no longer in his hands.

He would have sighed again if he wasn’t in the presence of the man.

"Cheer up, kid."

His effort to comfort Hereon did little to nothing.

"The extraction process isn’t really that serious." He continued. "We just have to extract your eyes and restore them with magic, then its done."

He processed the words from the man, his brain took the key points.

’Extract eyes, restore with magic.’

"You see, the reason why we wanted to get a Hachiman was because your clan has good eyes, and that’s not even the Null eyes.

But taking a Null eyes user would interfere with our plans, or if we did manage to do it, the only person we’d nab wouldn’t have enough eyes to go around."

He explained.

Hereon listened.

"But, leaving that aside, the extraction process isn’t even painful."

He reassured Hereon.

But the boy didn’t buy it.

The man didn’t seem to notice and continued to talk.

"Let’s see... We’re about six, or is it seven? Wait. We’re eight with the addition of you, we’re nine."

The man raised his fingers.

"We’’ll only need sixteen eyeballs from you."

"Sixteen?!"

Everything he had been holding back came loose. He couldn’t stop himself from speaking due to the words of the man.

"Yup, just eight pairs of eyes, or sixteen eyeballs, anyone you want."

Hereon’s confusion and fear grew.

"We are a small organization so we don’t have to do it several times for every member."

Hereon could only smile wryly.

"Do I have a choice?"

He questioned.

"Of course you don’t."

The man’s tone didn’t change as he said the words.

Hereon could only face the future; one which he had been forcefully thrust into.

...

Hereon was bounded to a wooden chair.

His hands and legs were restricted, but not with any physical material.

Magic held his body down.

"Don’t worry about it, remember, I said the process was painless."

The man said from the sidelines.

"That was a lie."

He completed.

[A/N: An author’s note in the middle of a Chapter is weird, but I find that describing someone taking out another’s eyes is even weirder.

But its hard to get the thought out of my head, and I’m not sure I’ll even do a good job describing it, so here it goes.]

The woman put her hand on Hereon’s face.

She ran her hands through it.

Then, her fingers settled on his face.

"Open your eyes wide."

But he wasn’t in control of his body, his movements had been restricted, even up to his eyes.

A moment later, Hereon felt something pop, and his vision in his left eye was permanently cut off.

He couldn’t see anymore.

But it didn’t pain.

’It doesn’t hurt.’

It only removed his vision.

The woman’s hands settled on his other eye, and in an instant.

He felt something pop.

He couldn’t see anymore.

He was blind.

It was a strange situation as he didn’t panic even though he realization hit him.

"Take, hold these."

He couldn’t see anything, but he recognized the voice of the person speaking as the woman.

"Sure, sure."

The man took the eyeballs.

"That’s one pair, only seven more to go!"

"Also..."

He added, this time speaking in a more softer tone.

"Where should I put my eyes after I’ve replaced them?"

Before, when he was told about it, he didn’t really give it much thought. But now, he was blind now and he heard people talk about transplanting their eyes with his.

It was quite strange, weird even.

He was disgusted by it.

Just then, a sharp pain assaulted his head.

First, it was light.

Then, it grew like a fire.

His forehead felt like it was on fire, and it was slowly burning.

His senses numbed as the pain overtook him. He tried to move his hands, but it was restricted by an invisible force that prevented him from moving it.

He bared in silence, gritting his teeth in agony as the pain washed over his head.

"Done."

Hereon blinked.

The pain subsided.

The world around him felt too bright, but in reality, it was a bit dark.

He blinked again as his eyes adjusted to the world around him.

Slowly, he regained his sense of sight.

The first thing he noticed was the man.

He had a pair of glowing red eyes, and he was juggling something.

’My eyes.’

"My eyes!"

He shouted.

The man had replaced his eyeballs with Hereon’s.

It was strange, weird and disgusting. But he couldn’t do anything about it.

"Oh look, I can see much clearer with my new set of eyes."

He bragged, staring into the distance.

"And I thought my former eyesight was good, this one is much better."

The man stared into the distance, pointing out various things that were there.

Hereon wanted to do something about it, but he was powerless to do so.

He could only hope that this extraction process would finish quickly.

"Hey Aira, I can see much better than you now."

The man bragged.

"Is that so? Then, I guess I better get a new pair for myself."
