Chapter 110: Troubles With A Dead Friend (1)
Even though hours had passed, the sun still hung in the sky.
"I didn’t kill any monster." Jason answered.
Kira’s face darkened at his words.
Jason felt a sense of unease wash over him as the boy’s expression changed drastically.
"You didn’t?" He asked again.
"No."
Kira got up quickly, his expression was serious.
"We’re leaving now!"
His voice carried the urgency of the situation.
Both Sean and the girl looked at him with interest.
"I thought we were going to sleep." Sean retorted.
"Keep everything in the bag now and let’s leave."
Even though he was the one to say that, it was still Kira that moved.
Without washing it, he kept the pots and equipment in the bag as quick as he could. He wore the large bag on his back.
"Let’s go!" He yelled at both of them, the two were still lazing about.
"Why?" Sean questioned, not bothering to even get up from his position.
"Grey is dead." He answered.
It took Sean a moment to comprehend the words that had come out from his brother’s mouth, but once he understood he got up quickly.
"Is he following us?"
Sean questioned, his tone matching the urgency of his brother’s voice.
’What do they mean by Grey is dead?’
"Yes, if not we’ll have to deal with two of them."
"Okay."
’Is the death of this "Grey" enough to make them this hurried?’ Jason wondered.
"Jason, you’ll follow us, and don’t get lost behind us."
He was ordering him.
However, Jason was curious about the situation so he did not talk.
"Where are you going?" An unnaturally deep voice questioned.
Jason’s head darted to the direction of the bushes.
The voice had come from there.
"Do you want to leave me alone, again?" The voice asked as the leaves rustled.
The figure came out.
The figure wore a blue torn shirt over black pants. The clothes were torn.
"That isn’t human." Jason muttered.
While it wore clothes, its body was unnaturally gray with dark black patches on several parts of its skin.
Its mouth was torn open, with its set of teeth exposed.
"Grey."
Sean’s tone was harsh.
"I don’t have any problem with you." The being named Grey ignored him.
It pointed at Kira.
"Its him!" He frowned as he pointed an accusing finger at the boy with the Null eyes. "I just have one question for you."
Kira did not answer instead he stared down at the being in front of him, his hands went to his waistband and procured his weapon.
"Why did you allow the Ice bears kill me?! After all I did for you!"
Kira still refused to give an answer, instead his grip on his weapon tightened.
"If I wasn’t knocked out again, I would’ve survived! So why didn’t you save me, you bastard! Huh?!"
[Name: Grey
Age: 17
Physical – Late Stage 4
Mental – Late Stage 1
Mana – Mid Stage 5
Skills: Instinctual Movements]
Jason used the chance to check its stats.
’Grey...’
’Since they knew this person before does that mean it was a human?’
His thoughts were interrupted as Kira responded.
"I couldn’t." He replied.
"Huh?"
"What the hell do you mean that you couldn’t! Weren’t you the one that said we’d watch each other’s back? How many did I save you from dying when we were fighting the bear monsters?!
Yet, you couldn’t even save me from a single bear monster after I’d fallen unconscious, you allowed its attack to hit me, then drained me of my mana so your own reserves wouldn’t finish."
"I did what I had to do."
"What you had to do?!"
"Yes."
"You couldn’t even leave me some of my mana so I wouldn’t be corrupted, instead you took everything! Did you have to do that as well?!"
Kira’s face tensed.
"I didn’t know that your mana was so pitiful." Kira answered.
As he spoke, Jason’s increased the pressure he put on his space ring.
His dagger appeared in his grasp.
’I can’t believe I’ll have to fight after eating.’ Jason thought, getting ready to block in case of a strike.
The being clicked his tongue.
Then, in an instant it moved.
’Just like I thought, it would go after me first.’
The main idea would always be to go after the weakest, no matter how weak they looked.
With Jason’s appearance, he typically fitted the criteria for that aspect. Even if he buffed himself up, people would still underestimate him because he had no mana.
’He’s not at fast as I thought he would be.’ Jason mused, readying himself. ’Or it.’
The being growled as it made contact with Jason.
Its hands morphed into razor-sharp blades with a metallic sheen.
Jason swiftly reacted.
He raised his dagger, blocking the being’s new "hands" with his dagger.
Its expression morphed into utter disbelief.
Jason pushed it back using his superior strength.
’I thought he too would accuse me of using artifacts.’
"How did you do that?" He questioned, his voice a symphony of disbelief and shock.
"Do what? I don’t know what you’re talking about."
Grey turned to Kira.
"So this is my replacement." It then grinned widely. "Nice."
Its left hand moved instinctively on its own, easily deflecting Jason’s strike to its chest.
It turned back to Jason.
Jason moved away quickly after his strike had failed.
"You’re good."
It was a compliment, however it didn’t feel like it to Jason.
’Maybe that is instinctual movements.’ Jason thought. ’Its body reacted way faster than it had been able to move, even when running.’
It was a talent, people don’t master techniques to the level of talents unless it was useful.
"What does your skill do?" Jason asked.
"Something." It answered.
The being did not answer him, instead, it only charged at him once again.
They clashed, both weapons coming off each other.
’Its able to change the shape of its body and even modify it.’ Jason noted as sparks flew from their clash.
He tried to counter.
But the monster’s body moved by itself, it dodged.
A side-step.
’How does it dodge from that angle?!’
It countered with a spin kick.
Jason was pushed back as the kick made contact, however he wasn’t knocked off his feet.
’It has to be instincts.’ Jason thought as he regained his footing.
"What’s your skill?" Jason asked again.
The being did not answer instead it clashed with him again.
Their blades met, though one of the blades one was a hand.
Jason once again threw him back.
But he quickly followed up with a series of attacks.
’30 Blade Movements.’
He couldn’t use the skill well, but he could use it well enough. As good as he needed to.
Jason launched the first strike, a swift stab at the shoulder joints.
But it was blocked easily, too easily.
He did not focus on his failed attacked, instead he shifted his feet on the ground and attacked again.
This time again, the attack was blocked.
He quickly shifted his footing, launching yet another coordinated attack.
That too was easily blocked.
His focus wasn’t deterred.
He continued to launch his relentless attacks, but each of them was easily parried, blocked or dodged.
It had even managed to launch its own counterattacks, but Jason had blocked them too.
The being wasn’t hit by a single one of his attacks.
He moved backwards.
"What is your skill?" Jason asked yet again as he threw his dagger into his left hand.
He wanted to copy the being "Grey’s" skills, however he had heard the being talk about corruption.
If the skill was gifted upon it before it had the so-called corruption, it would be best to know that before copying.
It glared at him because of his repetitive words.
Then, it charged at him yet again.
This time, Jason did not clash with the being.
Instead, he put his hand forward.
The hand weapon passed through his hand, stopping after a bit of the tip of its hand was pointing out.
When it realized that it couldn’t go any further, it tried to pull it out.
But it couldn’t.
Jason stabbed at it before it could react, with all the speed he could muster.
Due to its confusion after Jason’s actions, it didn’t react in time.
The dagger went through its head, going for the spot between its eyes.
He then pulled his hand out and quickly moved back.
It just stood there, looking at him eerily.
’Why hasn’t it fallen dead?’
He had stabbed through its head, he was confused to why it hadn’t it fallen to the ground dead.
It was still alive, even after that.
Jason backed away again.
"You disrupt the flow of mana around you." It said, pointing an accusing finger at him.
He didn’t reply.
"I’ve been wanting to use this skill since but because of you, I couldn’t do that because you were repelling all the mana I could take from around us." A dagger resided between its eyes where dark blood dripped out of. "But you’ve gone out of range now."
’They’ve gone.’
Jason did not hear a word the monster said.
He was too focused on the around around them.
Only the two of them were in this area.
’They abandoned me.’
He wasn’t too surprised about that, he was just a stranger to them.
Jason turned his attention back to the monster.
"Hey."
It stopped speaking, now looking at him.
"Shut up and fight since you’re not dead."
