Chapter 107: Strange Ones (4)

He had gotten up as soon as the cold began to seep back into his body.

It didn’t take him long to find the pair of footprints.

There were two footsteps in the snow apart from the ones left by the bears so Jason was able to continue on the path without getting lost.

"When I find them, I need to be cautious with how I deal with it."

The battlefield where they had fought was littered with the corpses of several Ice bears.

He had done a head count and counted sixty bears, including the ones that were dead. The people that had ran away were obviously strong to take down such a large number even though there were only three of them.

Though one of them died.

The cold returned, and his torn clothing did nothing to help him. Cold winds blew past him, raising his coat.

"Should I change?"

Even though he didn’t have a pair of clothing like the ones he currently wore, he knew that their conditions were poor.

His coat and shirt not only had a vertical slash from the claw of the bear, but was also punctured by the claws that had gone through his abdomen.

"No."

He ultimately decided not to, it would be better to only change clothing when his current ones were done for.

The icy air entered his lungs.

His right fist no longer stung from the punch he had thrown because of the healing potion he had taken, but he made sure to remember not to punch with his full strength, and not to swing with all the power he could muster as well.

His former battle taught him well.

With each step the only thing he could hear was his shoes crunching against the ground and the occasional whistling winds that brushed against his skin.

"The footsteps disappeared." Jason muttered, his brows furrowing in confusion.

It could either be the wind that blew snow to cover the tracks that they had left while running.

Or.

He had arrived at his destination.

Jason turned around, his eyes scanning the surrounding the distance.

He was surrounded by large bushes and trees that felt out of place.

’They really stopped here.’

"Found you."

He found two figures settling on top of a tree a good distance away from him.

They threw something at him upon noticing that he had discovered their location.

’The guy with the Null eyes can see my lips moving.’ Jason realized.

He didn’t bother to dodge the projectile.

It was just a few feet away from his forehead.

Jason brought his hand up.

He caught it easily.

He examined the object.

’This isn’t a dagger.’

It didn’t have a hilt, or rather, didn’t have the kind of hilt he would recognize in a dagger.

Its supposed hilt was made of the same material its tip was made of. Its hilt was circular as well.

"Why does this look familiar?"

’Who the hell cares? I’ll deal with it later.’

He stored it in his space ring before looking up.

The figures were no longer on top of the branch of the tree.

They had come down while he was distracted and seemingly ran away.

Jason walked to the tree where they were. He walked around and came to the back.

He circled the tree cautiously, checking to see if they were hiding behind it.

The moment he stepped around the trunk he caught sight of something. It was a book.

He bent down to check it.

And the moment he did, he heard the rustling of leaves.

Jason quickly dodged, narrowly avoiding a weapon that was meant to go through his skull.

The wielder of the weapon was a teen of about fifteen years old with blue hair and blue eyes.

He eyed Jason warily, however Jason didn’t bother looking the boy in his eyes.

Null eyes.

The boy could activate it at any moment and if Jason was looking at him his consciousness would get trapped in the Null.

And if he activated it first, his mental strength wouldn’t bode well with it.

"How are you still alive?" He questioned.

’Does he recognize my eyes or is he asking on how I dodged his strike?’ Jason wondered.

The boy was a Hachiman clan member and while he didn’t seem to be much older than Jason, before entering into the dungeon he must have heard of Jason.

"I don’t know."

The boy furrowed his brows at the lackluster response.

"You’re dark-skinned, aren’t you?" He asked. "Or do you use a special skill to change your skin color."

"Isn’t it obvious." Jason replied, though he began to grow a little skeptical about him.

"So you escaped when your homeland was being destroyed."

The boy entered a stance.

’Hachiman clan, destroyed.’

Those two words didn’t align well for Jason as they didn’t happen.

"The Hachiman clan wasn’t destroyed."

The boy paused, his expression showing disbelief.

However it didn’t last long as his expression quickly morphed into anger.

"So the clan did something to you, that’s why you can use mana. They sent you to see if I’m still alive."

The boy came up with his own assumptions.

Jason didn’t understand anything he said.

But he could tell that the person in front of him knew that he wasn’t supposed to be able to use mana, he didn’t understand why the boy didn’t think he could do what he had done because of a treasure.

Most of the people he fought thought the same thing.

"The clan didn’t do anything to me."

He was being sincere, the clan barely regarded his existence.

"I was born like this. Or do you think that there’s a way where they could give someone someone the Null eyes?" Jason questioned.

"Also, I don’t even know who you are so stop assuming things."

Jason would have long checked the boy’s status.

But if he did it would obscure his vision and give his opponent the perfect chance to attack him.

"You aren’t lying."

He visibly relaxed and his anger was replaced by calm.

"How can you use mana?"

"I can’t."

The boy didn’t question any further.

He paused before storing his weapon on his waist.

"I’m apologize for the rude welcome. I thought that you were someone else."

[Name: Kira Hachiman

Age: 15

Physical – Late Stage 4

Mental – Early Stage 4

Mana – Mid Stage 5

Skills: Heat Manipulation, Null eyes, Offhand]

’This guy’s stats are insane!’

Kira, the boy with the Null eyes, at the young age of 15 already had rank 0.

And Kira also had better stats than him; compared to Jason who only had Physical at Early Stage 5, he had Physical at late stage 4, Mental at early stage 4, and his mana at Mid Stage 5.

Jason would have a very hard time against an opponent of his caliber.

’Offhand...’

’Offhand!’

He had stopped practicing it a long time ago and didn’t remember about it, though he committed quite some time to mastering it.

’Offhand is passive so if I fight him, it would be almost impossible to land a single hit against him.’

’I should have learned it by now, but unfortunately, I didn’t remember it.’

’I guess near-perfect memory isn’t perfect enough.’

’And mana, he would be get some magic to hit me with his mana stat.’

The stronger he became, the more mana he could repel.

Jason could easily repel the mana in the air because it was loose.

However, mana used in magic was much more concentrated and the amount of that concentrated mana he could dispel depended on his strength.

’Beating this is almost impossible for me right now.’

He had truly entered an Adaptive dungeon, though it wasn’t the kind of adaptation he thought it would be.

"Are you alright?" Kira asked, noticing Jason had zoned out.

"I’m fine."

He dispelled the status screen and refocused on the person in front of him.

"When are you leaving?" Kira suddenly questioned.

"Excuse me."

"I apologize if I’m sounding rude, but I need to know when you’re going."

The question was rude, but even though he had to humor the person in front of him.

He thought to his reason for entering the A-dungeon.

’To get stronger.’

’Strong people usually attract strong opponents.’

"I don’t know yet."

Kira frowned.

"That’s alright, as long as you aren’t hostile."

Even though he said that, his face betrayed his emotions.

’He doesn’t want me to stay.’

The boy picked the book on the ground, checking to see if it was damaged much.

"Its alright, he isn’t dangerous. She said so herself." The boy called out.

"She?"

Kira did not humor him, instead he looked at the leaves of the tree high up on the branches.

A boy descended from the tree, he was grabbed by Kira before he could land.

Someone followed after him, except he teleported next to Kira.

"These are my brother and my traveling companion." He introduced them, although he seemed hesitant to do so.

Jason didn’t listen to Kira’s introduction, his mind was somewhere else.

’This girl...’

’She looks familiar!’
