Chapter 105: Strange Ones (2)
The four bears charging at him stopped moving.
Then, their bodies split into two and fell onto the ground.
Blood began pooling around the corpses of the monsters.
Jason was behind the final bear, his gaze focused on the Ice bear monsters in front of him.
He let out a deep breath, sweat had begun to form on his face. His katana was stained with blood but that didn’t stop him.
"Again." He muttered to himself.
The strain of using the synchronized move Quick Evasive Steps was the same as using the Null eyes.
His body would give out if he used it several times.
"Raarrh!!"
Jason turned his face to the direction of the noise.
The Ice bears that he had walked past when surrounded by the trees, five in total, had arrived to help their kind.
"Damn."
The newly arrived monsters ran towards him, though they lacked the coordination that the Ice bears he had just killed had.
The others from the other side went in his direction as well.
Nine charged at him simultaneously from both sides, if he didn’t do something they would corner him.
Jason dashed to the side, moving away from both.
’Nine are coming.’
He quickly tried to formulate his next course of action. However, it was still clear that the only way to escape would be to fight his way through.
’Dammit.’ Jason thought.
His only idea was to bring the Ice bears to the forest, but there were monsters charging at him.
"Again."
The monsters were nearing him.
’Quick Evasive Steps’
He moved.
With Quick Evasive Steps he could move at a speed that surpassed his own greatly while also being able to make movements that would be impossible without the technique.
Spirit Steps; a technique for weaving through the opponents attacks.
And Flash steps; a technique for moving at high speeds.
Both were combined for form this technique and as its usefulness grew, the strain of using it also grew.
’Quick Evasive Steps.’
His form blurred as he pushed his speed to the very limit of what he could muster.
The Ice bear monsters were slowed down to him.
Jason cut the first one into two, yet no damage seemed to have been done.
He went towards the second one slicing its body into half before continuing. He was halfway through them when the Ice bear monsters suddenly returned to normal.
Before they could register his presence, Jason leapt into the air. He swung his sword, the blade slicing through the air as it cleanly separated the Ice bear’s head from its body.
But he didn’t stop, the moment he did he would get hit.
He was exerting his body to make sure he came out of this fight unscathed.
Jason could not stop.
His feet made contact with the Ice bear’s body as its head fell down.
He landed softly on the ground, his katana dripped with the blood of the monsters he had killed. His breath was ragged and sweat had managed to go past his face.
Jason gritted his teeth as he got back on his feet.
He couldn’t use Quick Evasive Steps for the time being, and the monsters charging at him didn’t stop after seeing his display, they only increased their speed.
He dashed towards the bear monster in the lead, his speed was a lot faster than the Ice bear.
’I’ll have to pour all my strength into this strike.’
Both his blade and the monster’s materialized claws clashed with each other.
His katana broke.
It broke into several pieces and each landed on the ground.
The monster’s materialized claws had also broken, but it had disappeared as soon as it broke.
’Shit.’
He was holding the hilt of his katana.
The amount of strength he put in the katana was the same as the amount of damage it would take, he had poured all his strength into that strike. And unfortunately, the weapon wasn’t built to take that much in one go.
The blood-stained steel of the katana was now useless.
It wasn’t a quality weapon made by any of the clans after all.
The Ice bear wasted no time.
As Jason dropped the hilt on the snowy ground, it struck.
Its claw tore through both fabric and skin.
Jason’s body jolted as the Ice bear’s claws came in contact with his chest.
Three long gashes were imprinted on his chest, courtesy of the Ice bear monster’s razor-sharp claws.
He staggered backwards, the pain he felt was much more than he had ever felt in his life.
Jason fell onto his butt.
’Stupid old woman!’ He cursed.
He scrambled to his feet as soon as he fell.
’Stupid bear!’
The pain stung him.
Blood oozed out of the three gashes on his chest.
Rage. That was the only emotion he felt, his thoughts were clouded.
The Ice bear was prepared for him.
Jason caught its arm.
’If my weapon can’t take the force, I’ll do it myself!’ He thought, cocking his fists.
Jason punched the bear squarely. He poured all the strength he could muster into that single blow.
He didn’t use delayed fist.
His fist connected with the Ice bear.
Its body was propelled backwards as the punch made contact. The move at which the body moved was fast, much faster than the Ice bear monsters had managed to move.
The monster died from the force behind the blow.
Jason had poured everything he had into that blow. As a result, it killed the monster, but there was also a downside.
His fist was hurting him badly.
’Dammit!’ He thought.
Jason quickly used his space ring, applying pressure onto it.
A healing potion appeared in his grasp and he quickly downed the contents.
The wound closed, however, the marks of the bear’s claws did not leave.
Jason threw the bottle at the monsters charging at him, but his aim was off and it missed all of them.
The space ring glowed in the dim blue light again.
The dagger appeared in his right hand.
The dagger was the only blade he had left and he was going to use it well.
But...
The rage he felt hadn’t diminished in the slightest.
Jason darted forward.
As he reached the first one, he launched himself into the air. His dagger glinting ominously in the light of the snowy forest.
He twisted mid-flight, using his momentum to drive the blade down into the nearest Ice bear.
The creature let out a roar of surprise and pain as the dagger pierced its hide, but Jason didn’t stop.
He yanked the blade out and then stabbed into the monster again. He pulled the dagger out and pivoted.
Jason dashed to his next target even before the first bear even fell to the ground.
He ducked as the monster’s long arm came, sidestepping with what seemed to be an effortless grace.
He brought the dagger across in a swift arc. He felt the resistance of its bones and flesh.
The monster’s stumbled backwards as it snow-white fur was dyed with red, a deep gash had been opened in its torso.
Blood sprayed out from the wound.
But Jason didn’t stop, he didn’t have time to stop.
He darted around the monster.
With a sinister grin on his face, he drove his weapon deep into the monster’s spine.
Jason twisted, extracting the dagger from the monster’s spine.
Blood sprayed out mercilessly.
’Breathing Technique. Blade Strike.’
His muscles expanded.
Jason dashed towards the monster closest to him then leapt.
The monster tried to stop him, but it was too slow to do something.
He drove his dagger deep into the monster’s head, in between the eyes.
Jason vaulted over the bear as he took out the dagger from the Ice bear. The monster fell lifelessly to the ground.
As he landed he quickly went for the other bear monster.
Its body fell lifelessly on the ground as Jason finished.
His movements were swift, though not precise, his actions of killing were driven by only his instincts.
Jason’s care for rationality was low, he only wanted to kill the bears that had caused him so much trouble.
As he dodged to the side, a fist came.
’An ambush.’
The Ice bear monster’s fist had smashed into him, knocking him off his feet and sending a few meters backwards.
"Stupid." He muttered.
Jason got up.
His gaze turned to the monster that had just attacked him.
"Just three left." He murmured.
The punch had connected with his face, however there was no blood.
The monster that had attacked him was the biggest out of all the others, it couldn’t continue watching him murder its kin and had taken action against him.
"Just three left." He repeated, the words were sounding better to him.
"Just three left."
Jason’s grin returned.
"Its exactly the number I needed."
"Its exactly the perfect number for me!"
Jason deactivated the breathing technique, but just as soon as he did it, he activated another technique.
’Terrible cloning.’
