Chapter 104: Strange Ones (1)

"No more trees." Jason muttered to himself.

He had been walking for what felt like hours without end, the chilly weather and his thin clothing doing little to protect from from the cold.

"I guess that’s good?"

He continued forward. A gust of cold wind flew by, blowing the end of his coat backwards.

Jason was trying his best to cool himself, but the wind was powerful.

"Screw this." He murmured annoyed.

He was finally out of the Ice bear monster territory so he could do what he wanted to do.

After checking his surroundings, the ring on Jason’s finger glowed and a pair of clothing came out.

’I was going to give this to that old man, but considering that the scenario I’m in doesn’t have him I’m better off using it myself.’

He pulled off his skintight clothing and changed into the other pair of clothes he had prepared.

And to top it off, he added the coat he had brought along with him.

"Finally."

Even though it was cold, it wasn’t to the previous extent.

He continued on his path.

He thought of the bear.

When he met it, he had avoided fighting it and while a part of him felt relieved, he was also disappointed in himself.

Jason was lost in thought as he heard it again.

It was a growl, one that he had grown accustomed to after hearing for so long.

’Another one.’

He snapped his head in the direction of the noise. But it was just an empty landscape.

But there were no trees around and he couldn’t make out its form due to the snow.

That was when he noticed it.

"Blood."

After seeing it so many times, he was obviously able to identify it.

The blood had dried on the snow.

"Should I follow it?"

He was having a premonition that the bear wasn’t growling at him.

Suddenly, a monster let out a roar.

It was loud, clearly fitting for a beast, or better yet, a monster.

Despite his thoughts of going in the opposite direction, Jason was drawn towards the direction of the noise.

He at least wanted to see what the cause was before deciding.

Jason let out a deep breath as he steeled himself for the consequences of his decision, then he bolted in the direction of the noise.

In some seconds, he arrived at the scene.

There were several monster corpses scattered around the area.

The corpses belonged to the white fur bear monsters, Jason could finally see them because their fur was stained in blood.

There were about sixty of the white fur bear monsters in total, including the ones that had fallen.

Only twelve were left standing, each one of them soaked in blood.

But the reason for their fighting intrigued him.

Two boys.

Both of them were fighting with their lives.

There was also the body of a fallen human, his body had been split in half and his blood dyed the snow.

The two boys were interesting.

It wasn’t their fighting styles.

It was their appearances.

One of them had blue hair and scarlet red eyes, while the other had blue hair and blue eyes.

Both of them were from the Hachiman clan.

"Did some other people also enter the A-dungeon?"

He didn’t have time to dwell on that.

"I need to save them."

His original plan was to see the cause of the noise and escape before anyone would see him.

And it didn’t change just because he saw the members of his own clan, in fact if they were just anyone he would have left by now.

There was something peculiar about the one that looked the oldest.

His eyes were deep-blue; he had the Null eyes.

The Null eyes weren’t something your average member could get, it was something that only had a sure chance of being inherited by descendants of the clan head, and less than a 0.3% chance from any other member of the Hachiman clan.

Jason cautiously moved towards the scene.

His space ring glowed, and his katana appeared in his grasp.

He moved slowly towards the bear closest to him.

The monster had not noticed him, its attention was fully focused on the two boys.

Then, without a moment of hesitation Jason moved.

He swung his weapon in a perfect arc. His katana sliced through the body of the monster, cutting it into half.

’That was harder than I thought it would be.’ Jason thought.

The upper half of the Ice bear slid off the lower half and fell onto the ground. Then, a fountain of blood erupted from the lower body as if fell onto its knees and then onto its body.

The upper half of the monster realized what had happened and roared.

The other eleven monsters were alerted, their bodies turning to his direction.

’Shit.’

This was going to be very troublesome, and he obviously wouldn’t walk away from it unscathed.

For a moment there was pin-drop silence, neither of the three sides moving in the slighest.

Then, the largest of all the bears acted.

It let out a deafening roar.

The older boy stared at him with an expression of shock and disbelief, his eyes widened after he realized what Jason had just done.

In the blink of an eye, he and the other Hachiman clan member broke out into a full mad sprint.

They fled from the battle instantly and left him alone with the monster.

’What the hell?!’

His eyes narrowed in disbelief as he realized what had just happened.

It was as if they had been waiting for the opportunity to present itself, like they were anticipating his arrival.

And they successfully escaped all the monsters attention was directed towards him.

The worst part of it was that the monsters was seemingly angered at his intervention as their rage had skyrocketed to a new level at his arrival.

The Ice bear closest to him lunged in fury.

Its red eyes glowed menacingly.

Its speed was fast, but Jason could keep up with it.

It barreled forward and its claws slashed through the air.

Suddenly, a claw much larger than its own materialized in air, following the monsters claw.

Jason raised his katana to block. There was no way that he would be able to duck.

The monsters claws and Jason’s katana clashed.

But there was no time to rest as another Ice bear came after him.

’Another one!’

Jason backed away.

’Breathing Technique. Blade Strike.’

His muscles expanded as he took in a deep breath.

Then, he dashed forward in a burst of speed.

Jason swung his katana, it clashed with the monster’s materialized claw.

For a second, both seemed evenly matched.

Then, the katana broke through the claws and cut its paws off from its hands.

He continued, his foot moving through the ground as he cut the monster into two.

The scarlet red liquid sprayed out like a fountain, blood staining his clothing.

However, he did not care. He raised his weapon into the sky.

The clang of steel against steel resounded as his blade intercepted the other Ice bear’s weapon mid-slash.

Jason threw back the arm of the monster, disorienting it for a slight moment.

He capitalized on it.

His foot moved on the ground smoothly as he continued with a horizontal slash.

The body of the monster was split into two. The upper body slid off and the lower erupted with blood.

Jason quickly stopped the breathing technique.

’I almost reached my limits.’ He thought.

If not for the cold environment, he would be sweating right now.

The other bears did not move, obviously shocked at how quickly he had disposed of the two monsters.

Now their numbers had been cut down to nine.

’This is harder than I thought it would be.’ Jason thought, getting into his stance.

When he cut through the first monster he met some resistance, a sharp contrast to how he easily cut down monsters before.

The second one was able to block his slash with its materialized claws.

The third one was easily dealt with because he was using the breathing technique.

Jason was currently looking the biggest Ice bear eye-to-eye.

’Now I have the time to use it.’

[Name: None

’Its actually strong.’ Jason thought, gripping his weapon tightly.

’But not stronger than me.’

The biggest of all the Ice bears would be problematic to deal with.

’Wait, it has mana!’

He realized something.

’But does monsters also materialized claws to attack me, but it didn’t disappear.’

He came to a realization. The monsters had skills, but they weren’t talented enough in it.

’Dammit.’

A skill from these kind of monsters would come in handy.

His thoughts were interrupted as four Ice bears simultaneously came at him.

They moved in expert co-ordination.

’I can’t use Blade strike again, unless I wait for ten minutes, I will have to start from where I stopped.’

He would reach his limits soon.

’Fine.’

The bears approached him.

’I’ll use the results of my training to take them down.’

Jason took a deep breath.

’Quick Evasive steps.’
