Chapter 102: Incompetency

Jason’s eyes locked onto the woman that been yelling at him, his eyes were cold.

Then, he moved.

His movements were as fast as a blur. Even to the guards stationed around.

He had lost his temper; he had almost died inside his own house, accused of being the one that killed the man, and now a guard was spurring him with insults without even asking for what happened.

Without wasting a second, he grabbed the woman’s head then smashed it into the ground.

There was a sickening thud as her head hit the ground.

His actions felt satisfying, that was until guilt came at full force.

He let out a deep breath as he stared at the victim.

She had been knocked unconscious but there was no doubt that she would survive, he hadn’t packed enough strength into that to kill someone. It was only enough to give him a bit of satisfaction and knock her unconscious.

There was silence, nobody dared to move.

"Call an elder so we can settle this now."

Still nobody moved, as if they were scared of him.

"If nobody calls an elder, I’ll have to do this to everyone."

He gestured to the body on the ground.

One of the guards immediately responded to his threat, the person ran as fast as their feet could carry them.

"What happened to her?" Jason questioned the guard closest to him.

There had to be a reason for a guard to be so bold in front of the person she assumed to have done the red line.

"...It was her husband that died." The guard was reluctant to speak, but he eventually spoke.

"Oh."

’It makes sense that she attacked me, and I attacked her when she was spewing insults at me.’

The situation made him feel bad about his actions.

But.

’I’m not really the one that used the red line so it was her fault, it was just self-defense against a racist.’

All of his guilt was wiped away.

Soon, the guard returned, informing him that the elder would come shortly.

True to his words, the elder did arrive.

But the old man’s steps were slow as he finally came into sight, his dressing was grand, and if not for the fact that he was bald he might have actually looked refined.

The guards made way for him as he walked past.

"All of you." He turned to the numerous guards surrounding them. "Disperse."

They all left.

"Jason Hachiman. Tell me exactly what happened here." The elder commanded.

From the looks of it, this old man wasn’t a high-ranking elder, otherwise he would have understood the situation more.

"It wasn’t me that killed the guard."

Of course, the elder did not believe him. His face said it all.

"I’m not lying."

The elder still didn’t believe his words.

"But I know the person who did."

The corner of Jason’s lips rose.

The elder was intrigued. "Who did it, then?"

"The person that did this instructed me to tell you to screw yourself."

Jason felt good after saying that.

The elder’s face contorted.

"What?" He questioned.

"The person said I should tell the elder that they should go screw yourself."

It felt even better when he knew he wouldn’t be held accounted for his words, it was a win-win.

The elder had never been insulted by someone weaker than him, a child no less. But he had to control himself.

"Who told you to say that?" He asked, the old man released a bit of his mana to pressure Jason.

But surprisingly, Jason did not fall to his knees. He did not even flinch, as if his body did not register the alien energy.

Jason did not know this, but he could hear the irritation that was tinged in his tone.

"It was the clan guardian."

His answer didn’t elicit the expression that Jason thought it would, he had expected the old man to be shocked.

Rather, the old man seemed amused, like Jason had just told a good joke.

"Who told you to say that?" He asked again, releasing even more of his mana.

"The clan guardian also instructed me to tell any elder I meet that if you touch me, she’s going to kill you."

Even under the pressure, Jason didn’t flinch.

The old man’s face morphed into one of shock. He was in disbelief.

He retracted his mana.

"H..." He paused, the words he was planning to say stuck in his throat with no intention of coming out.

"You dark-skinned bastard!" Someone cursed.

All the guards had cleared out, except one of them. The only one of the guards that hadn’t left were the ones that hadn’t heard the order.

Namely, the one who was knocked unconscious.

"You’-"

She was interrupted.

"Silence."

The clan elder interrupted her before she could continue cursing.

She was on the ground, raising her head up using both of her hands.

The guard gritted her teeth at the elder’s words, she felt it sting more than the pain she felt in her head, and his words cutting through the ringing in her ear.

She would have hit her hand on the ground in frustration if she wasn’t using it to support herself.

Tears streamed down uncontrollably on her face, though they couldn’t be seen due to the mask covering it.

"Can you prove that it was the clan guardian and not a fable made up by you?"

’Please, its not like I can create something like that.’

"I can’t create something like that." He answered simply.

The elder did not speak.

"Is that your defense?" The old man finally asked.

"Yes."

The elder did nothing, he put both hands behind his back.

"You are dismissed, the other elders will be informed of this, rest assured that no one will hold you for the death of the guard."

The old man turned and walked away.

’Its not like that was even my fault.’ Jason thought as he watched the elder leave.

His gaze trailed down to the woman on the ground.

"Get up."

His voice was unnaturally cold.

"And get out." He continued.

Jason didn’t know why he sounded like that, maybe it was because they had started off at the wrong foot.

Or maybe it was because this woman was spurring racist comments at him when he had a lot of his mind.

Either way, he didn’t like her, and he doubted she liked him. She still thought that he was the one that killed her husband, and he had slammed her head into the ground.

There was and would be no need to sugarcoat any of his words.

Without another words, Jason went for the door.

He closed it shut once he was gone, the door clicking shut as he locked it.

’Stupid guards, its their fault for not sensing the mana of the clan guardian.’

The magic of such a being was strong, surely the guards of the Hachiman clan should have been able to sense it instead of jumping to conclusions.

’But I guess I should be happy about that, finally I’m alone.’

There were no more guards in the area surrounding his house, just like he liked it.

But it wouldn’t last long.

The maids would be here soon. They had lunch in the afternoon and after that they would return to their posts.

’Should I?’ A thought crept into his head.

If he did it, it would allow him to enjoy peace without any guards and maids to bother him.

Jason had a lot on his mind right now, and for once he would like to ponder to himself without the interference.

’Later.’ He decided.

Jason pulled off his clothes again and had another bath.

The sun was ruthless after all, it was intent on trying to cause permanent damage to him.

After some minutes, Jason came out and wore a new pair of clothes.

He went outside again, he noticed that the guard on the floor had left.

He walked around the house, going to the side where the red slash had gone through.

Next to the wall, there was a corpse.

Blood pooled on the grass, dying it with scarlet red.

A head wearing a black mast that covered its entirety was next to the corpse.

’It must have been too painful for her to carry the corpse.’ Jason mused.

It suited him well, it just worked well with his plan.

Jason dragged the corpse to the front where the door was at before dropping the body there.

Next was the head – he felt no disgust when he did the act – carrying it and positioning it upright next to its body.

’This should be enough for a day at least.’ Jason thought before going back inside. ’It reminds me of something.’

It reminded him of something, something in which he had not forgotten but would take care of in due time.

From there, he went towards the kitchen, wondering about the dish he would prepare today.
