Chapter 100: Another Meeting With The Clan Guardian
... (One Week Later)
The sun shone its harsh rays mercilessly as Jason stood in the yard.
A week ago the area around his abode had been empty, there were no guards surrounding his home. But now, there were over 30 guards surrounding the perimeter of his house.
The worst part was that he was no longer alone.
He had maids.
While when he was younger he had wanted the company, now he was older and was already used to the loneliness.
In other words, he was used to the life of a hermit and didn’t want to change.
Jason looked up, but as soon as he did he had to hold back a laugh.
There was a woman in an embarrassing position on top of his house.
He knew she was a guard but seeing someone in such a ridiculous stance almost made him laugh, it was even more funny considering she thought she was invisible when he could see her as clear as day.
’Focus.’
Ever since the guards and maids had arrived he had not uttered a single word. All his musings were in his head and never out loud.
Jason knew the maids were sent to spy on him and find out the secret of his strength, but they would never find out.
Regardless they were constantly eavesdropping on him 24/7 so he made sure never to talk.
He focused, the katana gleaming in the harsh light of the sun.
Then he swung the blade.
It was a straight slash, Jason adjusted his footing before following with another slash at the air. Then, he twisted going for a vertical cut at the air.
With each swing, he focused on his technique and form, trying to perfectly copy 30 blade movements.
It was the sword skill that Zane had used against Alexia in their fight and also one of the skills that the clan head’s wife had mastered.
If Zane had mastered it, Jason would have copied it, but unfortunately Zane did not spend much time on it and moved to Z-charge next.
Throughout the week he had been thinking of synchronization and after testing Quick Evasive Steps; the combination of both Flash Steps and Spirit Steps, he had been thinking of synchronizing two skills together to form one.
Of course, that was when he discovered that synchronization required two skills or techniques of over 50% compatibility. He had no such skills.
That led to him trying to master 30 blade movements so he could synchronize it with blade strike.
Jason huffed as he finally stopped after the thirtieth blade movement.
’My only goal is to master it, until then I won’t stop.’ He thought, then subconsciously looked into the sky, but he couldn’t see the sun. ’No. I’m out.’
Jason returned the katana into the space ring before entering his house.
His body was soaked, but it was not by the strain of his practice, instead it was because of the sun.
’I’m not practicing until the sun goes down, neither am I going outside.’ Jason decided.
The reason was because of his skin.
From experience he knew that working under the sun would make his skin tone darken.
’Right now my skin is like a perfect tan, perfect as it is.’ He thought as he pulled off the shirt. ’And I don’t want to change that.’
He quickly had a shower, washing away all the sweat that had accumulated on his body.
As he was done he stepped out and wore a new pair of clothing.
He entered the living room planning to pass the time with meditation.
Jason walked into the living room, ready to begin meditation, but before he could begin he noticed something.
’Teleportation.’ He noted.
But this was special - it was like the person wanted the light to illuminate the room – and was certainly a dazzling spectacle.
’What is she doing here?’ Jason thought.
She had light-blue hair, with deep blue eyes, a snub nose and full red lips that seemed to be yelling for someone to devour.
’Why is the clan guardian here?’
But then an idea struck him.
’Maybe she can help me with what I want.’
The clan guardian could help him get into the A-dungeon, he would just have to ask.
Just then, she flicked her fingers ever so slightly, as if drawing a line on thin air.
The line took form, becoming a red pulsing line of energy that emitted both mana and nature energy.
Then it went towards him.
If it touched him it would slice his head off.
’What the hell?!’
Even for him the speed was too fast, several times faster than his own full speed.
It was like she purposely wanted to kill him. The very definition of a whimsical being.
Jason’s reaction time was fast, he ducked to avoid the line of death. But it was extremely close, almost cutting his head off.
It sailed over his head, going through the walls of the house and continuing.
A scream resounded from outside.
’Someone is probably dead.’ Jason thought.
If he was meeting an elder he would have broken his vow of silence, but he was meeting the clan guardian, someone who had almost killed him.
It seemed like he had already made a wrong move, one more and next time she might kill him before he knew what would happen.
That would make his unknown death count go up to two.
Jason looked up.
The clan guardian’s face was one of indifference, a complete opposite to how he saw her when the met last time.
"Think about using me again and I will kill you before you even know that you are going to die." She said coldly.
Jason shuddered.
Looking into her eyes, Jason could feel her killing intent. It was like staring at a being standing on a continent made of bloody corpses and the person looks at you because you are next.
Suddenly, she grinned.
"You killed 6 human beings in the dungeon." The clan guardian informed him, though he already knew that. "Your killing intent has grown."
Jason didn’t know if it was a compliment or an insult.
"Its a compliment." She answered.
Jason hadn’t forgotten that she could read minds.
"I came here to see how you were doing after she died."
"Why did you let her die?"
There was silence.
That was until the clan guardian laughed.
"There are no emotions behind your voice, don’t you care about human life?"
"I do."
"Then why do you act so nonchalant about the life of that girl?"
At her words Jason thought of something.
’Would I have reacted differently if I didn’t have it?’
’I’m not sure.’
Jason did not speak out loud, instead his thoughts wandered.
"It seems that you did not care for her." The clan guardian said.
Once again Jason did not answer or try to retort.
The clan guardian sighed before taking a seat on the floor.
Surprisingly she was used to it.
"Tell me, how did you get back your arm?" The clan guardian questioned.
Jason did not reply immediately, instead his mind replayed the scene where his arm was cut off.
"It was-"
A line of the red energy formed of mana and nature energy was launched at him.
Jason barely dodged it by jumping to the side to avoid it.
"Lie to me again and the next one won’t miss." The clan guardian threatened him.
He hadn’t even completed speaking before she tried to kill him.
She could read his mind, meaning she could detect that he was about to lie.
’Mind-reading.’ Jason thought.
He couldn’t lie again, or he would certainly die.
The bright side of it was that he absorbing the Essence of A Being wasn’t as big of a secret as the system.
"Come and sit next to me." She ordered.
Jason knew that when she shot out the lines of red energy that she was barely trying, she could kill him easily if she exerted herself more, but she ultimately chose not to.
If he sat next to her then he wouldn’t have time to dodge before the red energy hit him.
Jason walked to her position, he sat one foot away from her.
Surprisingly, the clan guardian didn’t have a heavenly scent on her. She smelt good, but not to the point of having an intoxicating scent.
He didn’t plan on lying, if he did his life would be gone.
"I’ll ask you again, how did you regrow your arm?"
"I drank the essence of a being."
"Hmm." She sounded as if she were thinking.
"How do you know it is the essence of a being?"
"That was what I understood when I drank it."
Technically he wasn’t lying, he understood that it was the essence of a being after drinking it.
"You aren’t lying." She muttered, but Jason heard it.
She smirked.
"So your body is capable of digesting the essence of a being without exploding."
"That means that you..."
She stopped speaking.
