Chapter 53: SysDi 53: Into the Highest Floor 4
Taking a deep breath, Evan sighs. He will just have to remember that there is a guy about to open the door when he returns.
The only plan of action he has? Make a run for it.
"Summon Pet Iva." Evan says.
The familiar, faint light appears on the ground before Iva materializes. "You called?"
Evan gestured grandly with his arms and hands. "There’s a guy who would most likely get me caught once I get back from Simulation zone. I had my intentions but I might miss things in this huge place. I want you to look for books with me."
Iva the slime bounced to his shoulder. "What kind of books?"
He looks at the left and then the right. There are rows upon rows of books. They are not old books like Clara had told him to be, but they are new, some of them still wrapped in paper with just a label of the title on the wrapping paper’s spine.
"Any book that teaches about learning basics in magic or abilities. If there are any books about the watch users, you might want to point me in that direction too."
At Iva’s silence, Evan continues. "This is as big as half the entire library. Not sure how they kept this hidden but there would be more books on the floor below, if this floor is already overflowing with knowledge. I don’t think we can have any other big chance than what we have now."
Iva sighs. "Okay, okay. How about, I search on the floor below and you handle it here? It’ll be much better if you know every path here after you get in the door later."
That... Was surprisingly a good idea. Evan slowly nods his head.
"Hey! I saw that! Did you think I wouldn’t notice the expression of doubt on your face!?"
Evan hums, not looking guilty at all. He chuckles a little. "I’ll praise you for the good idea once it actually works. For now, we try and do that and then we’ll work on how it’ll actually change once we get back."
Iva sighs and bounced. "Okay, good luck."
With that, they both each went their separate ways. Iva went straight for the staircase furthest north east from his location, at the corner.
Meanwhile, Evan is going to start to the left side first from the door so he can work his way towards going to the right and then up towards the staircase.
There are no categories for each aisle like Evan is used to with the library downstairs that he and common folk like him could access. Here, just rows upon rows of books. They are all neatly arranged from biggest to smallest, instead of by what the books contain.
Some titles don’t exactly fit what row they were on. How this entire part of the library could function in such chaotic arrangement is not something Evan has the luxury to think about at the moment. So, he ignores it and continued walking and scanning.
As he walks through, he felt something...off. It was the same feeling he had when he had found out the book of Cure from the library downstairs.
He went to the third bookshelf, followed where his instincts is telling him to get to. Evan pulled out a book titled: ’Magical beams and how to aim them’, which is a good title for a book, and another weirdly titled book before he saw it.
Not green, like what he had seen before. It was blue this time. No titles on the spine.
Evan took it and saw no title in the front and back. When he opened it, it is blank.
Most interesting of all, it didn’t show a panel like the green book had done for him. He closed it and turns it which way.
It feels the same. But there has to be a reason why he can’t get this book.
...Is it because he isn’t really there at all and this is just a simulation?
If that’s the case, Evan nods to himself. "Status." He called out his panel. "Item inventory, pen and a piece of paper."
His panel appears for a brief moment before a pen and paper appears in the space before Evan. He took them both and wrote down where he remembered seeing this blue book.
Third bookshelf, fourth row, 16th book from the left and behind it.
Once he was done writing that, he began walking through each halfway of bookshelves.
Nothing seems to have grabbed his intention more intensely than that book he had just found. It was where his gut feeling wanted to return him back to, no matter how much he just ignores the feeling.
When he got to the right side of the room, he felt a small creak on the floor. He looked at it, humming as he pokes it with his foot. It doesn’t creak around it at all, just that one spot. Weird.
He leans down to look at it closely. The further along he goes to the corner, the more creak-y the floor is. He turns to look at the wall, not really seeing anything wrong with it.
Evan leans closer to the wall, pushing his hand to it. It phases deeper. He could phase through walls because his intention doesn’t include looking for weird spots on the walls. But he has a feeling there’s something else here.
He pulls his hand and arm back, before pushing his upper both through the wall to see if he is going to see the outside of the library or see something else.
Oh. It was something else.
Evan’s eyes widened when he saw that there is a whole other room on this side of the wall. It doesn’t seem like it is easily accessible but just about anyone.
He looked at the floor and saw there is a part of the ground in the new room with a hole and a ladder. There’s a way to enter here. His mind feels like it is on overdrive as he thought of possibilities. It seems like he had hit a jackpot for finding new things to explore and to sate his curiosity.
