Chapter 39: Son(1) [Violence][Bonus]

Mikey’s consciousness wavered as his body dragged across the rough ground. His arms hung limply at his sides, each gripped tightly by the hands of the gangsters pulling him forward.

His legs scraped against the floor, the friction burning his skin through his pants. Slowly, his senses sharpened, and fear began creeping into his chest.

’W-Where am I?’ His thoughts raced, his heart pounding aloud in his ears.

’What’s happening?’

As he blinked his dazed eyes open, he saw light—dim, flickering light. The two men dragging him were conversed amongst themselves, and then, the recognition hit him like a punch to the gut.

’Iron Vipers...? Shit.’

His breath caught in his throat. Panic surged through him, and he instinctively tried to struggle, but their grip was firm. His eyes darted around—four of them. The same four Iron Vipers who had come for him.

They moved steadily, walking without urgency, conversing casually as if they weren’t dragging a half-conscious dude through the school’s walkway.

Mikey swallowed hard, left with his spiraling thoughts.

’Okay, okay, think! Think! Where are they taking me? To Son? No, no, no! I can’t—’

Dread gnawed at him. He needed to escape. But how? His deceptive reasoning, his quick-thinking instincts, they were failing him.

’Damn it! Come on, brain! Work!’

Nothing. His head felt empty, void of any clever tricks. His body, as well, refused to cooperate. His captors dragged him onward, turning a corner, pulling him into the dimly lit alley beside the gym building.

The moment they veered off the main path, darkness engulfed them, the alley shaded from the high noon sun.

Mikey’s eyes adjusted, and through the gloom, he saw them—several figures loitering in the shadows, their faces obscured by smoke.

Cigarettes burned between their fingers, the faint ember-like eyes in the dark. A group of them sat against a stack of crates, laughing, talking amongst themselves, one of which was Son Parker- with a lit cigarette on his hand.

"Oi!" One of the Iron Vipers dragging Mikey grinned.

"Boss! Son! We got your little pig!"

The man addressed as Son turned his gaze, his silhouette cutting an imposing figure against the alley’s dim light. He took a long drag from his cigarette, his expression unreadable as he exhaled slowly.

"Oh?" His voice carried amusement.

"Lil Dicky, where the hell have you been?"

Mikey stiffened. His blood ran cold.

Son waved lazily, a grin spreading across his face.

"I was starting to think you were ghosting me."

Then, Mikey’s heart dropped as a tad bit of confusion settled in him.

"He’s smiling? I thought he’d be mad?"

Before he could process his thoughts further, the Iron Vipers reached Son and shoved Mikey forward. He hit the ground hard, a sharp grunt escaping his lips. Pain radiated through his limbs as he rolled onto his side. His phone, barely clinging to his back pocket, tumbled out, skidding across the dirt before coming to a stop a few feet away.

Mikey groaned, placing a shaky hand on the ground to push himself up. But before he could, footsteps approached. A pair of pristine sneakers entered his vision—expensive ones. And he didn’t need a seer to tell him whose they were.

Son.

He took one last puff of his cigarette before flicking it to the ground and snuffing it out with his foot. Then, with subtle movement, he crouched in front of Mikey, his movements slow and deliberate.

Mikey shuddered as he awaited what was coming. He braced himself, for the hit.

"He’s going to ask for his money..."

Then, Son spoke.

"Did my people treat you well?"

Mikey, who’d already positioned his face for a hit, paused his motion, his breath hitched.

"...Huh?"

That wasn’t exactly the question he had expected.

’What? They... they beat me and slapped me around! What kind of question—?’ His thoughts whirled chaotically. But he quickly swallowed his anger.

’ ...Wait...If I say the wrong thing, it’ll just get worse for me.... I gotta play this right."

He forced a smile, his voice strained but steady.

"Yeah. Five stars to them. Best treatment ever."

A silence fell over the alley. A suffocating silence.

Son held his gaze, his own expression unreadable. His sharp eyes studied Mikey’s face as if searching for something—maybe for a lie, maybe for fear.

Mikey’s pupils, however, trembled. Whilst Son’s remained still, and Steady.

Seconds passed before Son finally exhaled, the tension breaking just slightly. He loosened his stance, slipping his hands into his pockets.

"Are you sure?" he asked.

Mikey forced himself to nod.

"Yeah. I’m sure."

There was another pause. Then, a smirk curled Son’s lips.

"You’re a good kid." He turned to his men.

"Lil’ Jim."

Upon muttering this, the Iron Viper who had slapped Mikey stiffened. His gaze flickered nervously between Son and Mikey.

"Y-yes, Boss?"

Son’s voice was calm, almost casual.

"Come here."

Lil’ Jim hesitated before stepping forward. The confidence he had worn so arrogantly earlier had melted away, leaving behind uncertainty. His steps were slow, reluctant, until he stood before Son.

"Yes, Boss?"

Son tilted his head slightly.

"Didn’t I tell you guys not to lay a finger on my business partner?"

Lil’ Jim’s breath hitched.

"Y-yes..."

"So tell me—" Son took a moment, gesturing at Mikey.

"—why does he have a bruise on his face and a bloody nose?"

The alley fell deathly silent.

Mikey swallowed hard. He flicked his gaze around, noting how the expressions of the Iron Vipers shifted—from ones of casual amusement to something colder. More controlled. Like they were preparing for something inevitable.

Lil’ Jim’s face paled. His mouth opened and closed before he finally stammered.

"He... he tripped and fell."

Mikey almost scoffed.

’Seriously dude?’

Son’s expression didn’t change. He merely turned his head slightly, his eyes now narrowing at Lil Jim.

"Tripped and fell?" His voice was eerily quiet.

Lil’ Jim nodded vigorously.

"Y-yeah! I wouldn’t lie to you, Boss. We didn’t touch him! He just... fell." His voice wavered under Son’s stare.

Son didn’t speak. He merely observed Lil Jim for a moment. Then, after a few heartbeats, he sighed.

"I see..."

Sun paused for a moment, his gaze lingering on Mikey, as though weighing something unspoken between them. Then, with a voice as steady as stone, he finally spoke.

"Is it true?"

Mikey hesitated. He could feel the weight of the situation pressing down on him, and the knowledge of what was at stake made his throat tighten.

Taking a shallow breath, he forced himself to respond as honestly as he could.

’Yes. Yes... I tripped. I tripped and fell. Just like he said.’

For a long moment, silence reigned. The weight of expectation was suffocating, as though everyone in the room was holding their breath, waiting for the next move.

The tension was far too unreadable, almost unbearable, and then—

Ha.

Ha-ha-ha.

It started with a short, sharp chuckle, almost disbelieving. Then it grew, rolling into a deep, hearty laugh that echoed through the space.

Son threw his head back, unable to contain himself. He stepped back, shaking with mirth, his hand slapping against his thigh as if he had just heard the funniest joke in the world.

"Lil’ Dicky over here.." he wheezed between bursts of laughter, jerking his thumb towards Mikey.

"Still doesn’t know how to watch his step, he’s so fucking stupid!"

The other young vipers hesitated at first, their eyes darting between each other, but seeing the shift in mood, they followed suit. Forced laughter spilled out, each of them echoing the sentiment, some slapping their knees, others shaking their heads with exaggerated amusement.

"Yeah, he’s so damn clumsy!" another voice chimed in, louder now, feeding into the energy of the moment.

Mikey remained still, his expression blank. His mind raced, trying to catch up, to see where the shift had occurred. It felt unnatural—off—but if this meant avoiding a beating, he’d take it.

But then the laughter changed.

Son’s eyes flicked towards Lil Jim. A smirk curled at the edge of his lips as he turned towards him, amusement lacing his voice.

"Ain’t it fucking hilarious?"

Lil Jim hesitated for a second before obliging, their laughter joining the chorus.

" Mmm...yeah! The brat is so clum-"

Cutting through his speech was a unprecedented fist which shot out, faster than anyone present could have anticipated.

The impact was brutal. A sickening crunch echoed through the air as Son’s knuckles connected with Lil Jim’s face.

Blood splattered, spraying crimson across the dimly lit room. The victim’s eyes went wide for a brief second before rolling back, his body crumpling like a marionette with its strings cut.

In that moment, Son hooked his leg behind Lil Jim’s legs, sweeping him off his feet with ruthless efficiency. The motion was so fluid, so calculated, that it was almost artistic in its brutality.

And so, Lil Jim was sent crashing down, the sheer force of Son’s fist driving him to the ground with bone-rattling intensity, amplifying the impact of his fall.

There was another sickening crunch as Lil Jim’s head was driven into the ground with enough force to rattle the concrete beneath them. The sheer force of the blow sent an eerie silence rippling through the room.

Son lingered there for a moment, his fist still pressed into the unconscious man’s skull. Then, slowly, he withdrew his hand, watching as Lil Jim’s body twitched before going completely still. A single drop of blood trailed down from his nose, mixing with the sweat and grime on his face.

A gasp followed—one of the vipers took an involuntary step back, fear flashing in his eyes. But no one spoke.

Sun exhaled slowly, flexing his fingers as he straightened. His gaze still fixed on Lil Jim’s now unconscious body, his expression cold, detached.

"When I give an order, I expect it to be followed to the bone."

This realization sent a cold shiver down Mikey’s spine—because if Lil Jim’s fate was already sealed, then what awaited him would be far, far worse.
