SSS Ranked Summoning: I'm An Extra With The Strongest Harem System -
Chapter 37: Scam Or Real??
Chapter 37: Scam Or Real??
The darkness stretched on—subtle, eerie, infinite. No matter how many times he found himself here, the void of the game’s loading screen remained an unsettling sight. Yet, as he lingered, eyes fixed on the numbers before him, disbelief coiled tightly in his mind.
[Mission Completed]
[Reward: +1 increase in all stats]
[Balance: 73 Soul Cores]
After countless hours of grinding through missions that had long since blurred together, this was all that remained.
He had played nonstop—allowing himself only brief pauses for food, bathroom breaks, and the occasional nap.
His body had ached for rest, his eyes burned with exhaustion, yet he had pushed on, all for this one achievement—$7,000. What a price!
If his body had actually registered the exhaustion, the strain, the tension, he was sure he wouldn’t have been able to walk for weeks. But that was the beauty of the deluxe mode, wasn’t it? No pain. No fatigue. Just the rush of grinding, and the thrill of watching numbers climb.
But now... it was all gone. The grind was done, and he had finally completed it. However, that wasn’t the hardesr part.
He had used the Soul Cores to purchase the "Deceptive Reasoning" package before, unlocking a whole new world of possibilities within the game. But never—not even once—had he tried cashing out real currency. That was the real problem.
’ Could it even be done?’
The thought haunted him. If it worked, he would get his $7,000. If not... well, he was fucked. And that was just putting it lightly.
He hadn’t entered any bank details. Hell, there was no logical way for the money to transfer over.
And yet... the deluxe mode had already given him a skill—one that undeniably sharpened his social abilities. He had felt it, used it, relied on it. It had helped him complete missions, level up, and even land himself in trouble with Son Parker... although that was all done to save Aurora, if only for a fleeting moment.
That had to mean something.
It had to be real. It had to be.
Wasting no time, he proceeded to the shop menu, his heart pounded as he scrolled through the menu, fingers trembling.
Click.
Scroll.
Click.
Scroll.
Again and again, he continued, searching for the required menu. His breath hitched as he reached the final section—the one that mattered.
The exchange option, which read-
[Exchange Soul Cores for currency]
With a deep breath, he clicked it, and following that was a window popped up.
[How much would you like to exchange?]
[...(input amount]
[MAX]
His eyes flickered to the Max button. He hesitated for only a second before tapping it.
Another pop-up appeared.
[Are you sure you want to proceed?]
[Yes][No]
’Yes.’ He confirmed inwardly and as if following his instructions, the "yes" option was selected.
Immediately following this was another window pop-up which blinked into existence.
[Transaction successful.]
For a long moment, he just stared, awaiting any further information from the system, but there was none.
Then, a soft sigh slipped from his lips, a mix of relief and anxious anticipation washing over him.
’Well... It’s now or never.’
He muttered those words softly, as if speaking it into existence.
"Return."
Once more, the world shifted. A blink and A flicker flashing over. After that, suddenly, he was back.
His eyes shot open, and before anything else, he scrambled to his feet. He checked his surroundings, his breath hitching. No sign of any strange debris, no leftover traces of the game lingering in the real world...there was no money, atleast no cash. Nothing.
’Mmmm....I guess the money isn’t gonna just go "poof" and appear in front of me....Maybe it’s a transfer?’
He grabbed his phone, his fingers tapping the screen with urgency. The first thing his eyes were met with was the time- 6:29 a.m.
His gaze darted to the sun, which had barely risen, painting the room in soft hues of gold and blue. He checked again.
’6:29 a.m.’ He had thirty-one minutes before school started.
Still, no alert. No notification. No debit.
’...Don’t tell me...the money section is a scam??’
His stomach twisted. No, it had to be real. The deluxe mode was most definitely real, viz the money had to be real, too, that was common sense. If the system had allowed him to purchase skills, if everything else had transferred over, then why wouldn’t this?
He had reasoned it out. He had reassured himself and gone over every possibility, well except this one.
As the minutes dragged on, even his own reasoning began to unravel, his mental state fracturing as the reality of the impending beatdown from Son Parker sank in.
"AHHHHHHHHH!"
His scream tore through the room as he clutched his head, his fingers gripping his hair in sheer frustration.
"No, no, no! This can’t be happening! WHERE’S THE DAMN MONEY?!"
He had exchanged 70 Soul Cause. That was supposed to be $7,000. So why? Why wasn’t it there?!
His hands shook as he paced the room, his breath ragged. His mind spun, trying to grasp at anything, any explanation that made sense.
The deceptive reasoning.
’Yes, that’s it. The system had worked when I used it to purchase skills. The Skill Exchange had been real. Then why—why would the Money Exchange be fake?’
That didn’t make sense.
Was it a scam to get him to give up his soul cores? Or Was it some kind of cruel joke?
’It better not fucking be! Otherwise, NovelFire customer service arr gonna get an ear full!’
However, he quickly realized he had no real way to explain how he, an uncontracted author, was supposed to receive seven thousand dollars. In truth, he wasn’t even sure if anyone else had the deluxe mode—he had never seen a single review about it or any statement from the NovelFire team.
His breathing quickened, and then—a thought struck him, almost so cruel that he wished it wasn’t so.
’Wait.’
His stomach dropped. His fingers scrambled for his phone. He swiped down to his notification bar, the screen blurring in his panicked state. Then he saw it.
His breath stopped. His chest tightened as his eyes widened in horror.
It was already Wednesday.
His brain short-circuited.
"WHag-THE-FUCK?! What the actual fuck?!"
Somehow, he’d become so absorbed in the grind that time had slipped away from him—and now, he had completely forgotten about the deadline.
He had until Wednesday to get the money. And now—it was Wednesday.
’No...why am I overreacting? It’s only been about three minutes. Bank transfers take loads of time before they are completed...so...I guess the most logical thing to do now, is to wait.’
Mikey let out a slow breath, as hr leaned back on the bed, and forced the most unconvincing smile onto his face—like a man trying to pretend he hadn’t just been scammed out of his soul.
’Everything’s fine. Totally fine. The bank transfer is probably just taking its sweet time. That made perfect sense. Right?’
With that, he glanced at his phone, sighting another need for a heavy sigh—3% battery. Of course.
’why wouldn’t my life be a series of unfortunate events?’ He sighed, plugged it in, and collapsed back onto his bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. His mind wandered back to his missions, the grind, and the absolute joy of enhancing his skills.
’Ah, what a ride...literally’
He’d strivwd, he’d schemed, and now here he was... waiting for his grand prize.
He shut his eyes. Maybe if he just lay here long enough, the money would magically appear. Maybe he’d wake up to seven grand and a parade in his honor. Maybe pigs would fly, whatever the case, his was ready to wait. And he did just that, he waited and waited, until-
The distant sound of the school bell rang through the air, echoing in from the hallway right into him room.
His head snapped up upon hearing this, he darted towards his phone again. His gaze locked onto the time.
8:01 a.m.
He was late. Not just late to school—he was right on the deadline.
Wasting no time, he hurrided to his bank app, searching for the credit, and right there, at the top of his screen, his bank balance refreshed.
[Balance: $137.2]
His soul nearly left his body.
He stared at the number. Stared at it like it had personally ruined his life, which it had.
"No. No, no, no, NO!"
There was ho debit. So now, where the hell was he supposed to get $7,000 in a single day?!
He looked up, his eyes filled with raw, unfiltered desperation.
The universe didn’t care. The game didn’t care. And his empty bank account sure as hell didn’t care.
His fingers tightened around his phone as the realization crashed over him like a tidal wave.
He was completely fucked.
