Spoiled By the Young Master After Reborn In the 80s -
Chapter 85: Eighty-four, Mu Wan
Chapter 85: Eighty-four, Mu Wan
Luo Shu took out the wild ginseng from her pocket and presented it to the woman, "Two thousand yuan!"
"That expensive?!" The woman was startled by the price Luo Shu had quoted, but thinking of her grandmother’s health, she hesitantly said, "I... I didn’t bring that much money with me, how about you come to my house with me to get it?"
Luo Shu sized up the young woman, "Where do you live?"
"I live at number 31, Horse Factory Street," the woman quickly replied.
Luo Shu felt the name Horse Factory Street sounded familiar. After a moment, she finally remembered where it was. Horse Factory Street wasn’t too far from the government compound in the city, which she would pass every time she visited her godmother. She just wasn’t very fond of remembering street names, so she hadn’t thought of it right away.
"Let’s go," Luo Shu said. It was still early, and she could take the opportunity to visit her godmother. She wondered if she had noticed that she could now walk normally.
"Then let’s take the bus. It’s just five stops away to my place. By the way, my name is Mu Wan, what’s your name?" Mu Wan wanted to address Luo Shu as a sister, but she saw that Luo Shu was younger than her. It wouldn’t be right to call her "little sister."
"Luo Shu," Luo Shu replied.
"Luo Shu, can we be friends?" Mu Wan asked expectantly. She liked Luo Shu’s style of handling things. She had sneaked a peek into the alley earlier and seen Luo Shu beat up that man—very cool and impressive. She had many friends, but few were like Luo Shu.
Luo Shu turned to look at Mu Wan, saw the sincerity in her eyes, and smiled, nodding her head, "Of course!"
The city bus was obviously much more crowded. The three of them got on the bus, barely finding space to stand, let alone sit. However, since the roads were paved with asphalt, there were no particularly bumpy spots.
The bus was fast. In less than half an hour, they had reached their destination.
After getting off the bus, Mu Wan pointed to a small western-style house across from the bus station and said, "That’s my home, let’s go on over."
The Mu family’s house was large and exquisitely decorated, which revealed that Mu Wan’s family background was quite impressive. Of course, this could also be inferred from her willingness to buy wild ginseng for two thousand yuan.
After all, in this era, there were very few people who could casually come up with a few thousand yuan.
"Miss, you’re back!" Seeing Mu Wan return, Auntie Li hurriedly brought her slippers.
"Auntie Li, these are my friends; please bring them two cups of tea," Mu Wan requested, slipping into her slippers.
"Of course, miss!" Auntie Li took out two pairs of slippers from the shoe cabinet for Luo Shu and Fu Yi, then headed to the kitchen.
"Luo Shu, Brother Fu, please have a seat. I’ll go upstairs and get the money from my mother," Mu Wan said, smiling and pointing upstairs before running up.
The elegant pale blue curtains shielded the harsh sunlight from outside. The room was filled with rosewood furniture, which complemented the red wood floors, giving the whole room a stable and grand atmosphere.
A delicate-looking middle-aged woman was trying on clothes in front of the wardrobe mirror. She was going to a friend’s birthday party that evening and naturally wanted to look her best.
"Mom!" A slightly petulant cry came from outside the door.
He Xiangyu turned with a smile and shook the dark purple velvet Flame Robe in her hand, "Wanwan, you’ve come at the perfect time. How do I look in this dress?"
Mu Wan approached He Xiangyu, smiling, "You look good in anything you wear!" Her words were earnest; her mother might have been approaching forty, but in terms of figure and appearance, she was barely indistinguishable from a woman in her twenties. Without mentioning her age, no one could guess her actual years.
He Xiangyu smirked at Mu Wan, "Always knowing how to make your mom happy."
"I’m not just saying that! Mom is truly beautiful!" Mu Wan giggled and said, "Mom, I saw some hundred-year-old wild ginseng today, and I want to buy it."
"Are you certain it’s actually a hundred years old?" He Xiangyu put down the dress she was holding and picked up another to compare. She knew her daughter was filial, but hundred-year-old ginseng was rare and not found easily.
"I’m sure! I’ve already agreed to buy it, and I’ve brought the person with me. He is downstairs right now," Mu Wan nodded. She had asked Luo Shu, and Luo Shu told her it was hundred-year-old wild ginseng; she believed Luo Shu wouldn’t deceive her.
He Xiangyu was taken aback, "What? You’ve brought the person back? Why are you so impulsive, child?"
She tossed the dress onto the bed, "Let’s go downstairs and take a look." If someone dared to deceive the Mu family, they were certainly bold. Her daughter might be naive, but she herself was not.
Hearing footsteps, Luo Shu set down her teacup and looked up.
She saw a strikingly beautiful woman dressed in casual clothes, tall and elegant, walking down the stairs with Mu Wan. Observing their features, Luo Shu guessed they must be mother and daughter.
"Sister Luo Shu, Brother Fu, this is my mother. Mom, these are my friends," Mu Wan introduced them to each other.
Luo Shu and Fu Yi stood up and nodded to He Xiangyu, "Hello!"
He Xiangyu looked Luo Shu and Fu Yi over, then smiled and nodded back to them, "Please sit! Don’t be formal!" From their demeanor, they didn’t seem like swindlers, but she needed to see the ginseng first.
Sitting down on the couch, He Xiangyu spoke, "Wanwan mentioned you have some hundred-year-old wild ginseng. Could I see it, please?" Her mother-in-law’s health was a constant worry for the whole family. They had consulted doctors, but her illness remained uncurable.
She had heard from a friend that a legendary healer not only saved her nephew’s life but also cured the magistrate’s wife’s legs. Hence, she simply must attend their birthday banquet tonight, as she needed to use that friend’s connection to request the legendary healer’s assistance for her mother-in-law.
Luo Shu smiled, nodded, and handed the wild ginseng to He Xiangyu.
He Xiangyu took the ginseng and examined it closely. Although she wasn’t well-versed in ginseng, this one seemed exceptional at first glance; however, whether it was truly a century old was unclear.
After some thought, He Xiangyu looked at Luo Shu and asked, "Would it be possible for me to have someone come over and appraise this wild ginseng?" Although she was aware that it might seem offensive, she had to be sure. She might not care about the money, but she couldn’t risk giving substandard ginseng to her mother-in-law.
"Mom!" Mu Wan frowned and shook He Xiangyu’s arm. She felt that her mother’s actions were a sign of distrust towards Luo Shu and could embarrass her.
Luo Shu smiled at Mu Wan and replied, "Of course, you can!" She wasn’t offended by He Xiangyu’s request; she would have done the same in her place.
