Chapter 785: Seven Hundred Eighty-Three, News
Lin Helian looked at Luo Shu in confusion, "Why?"
"Because you’ll have some good news coming soon." Luo Shu curled her lips into a mysterious smile.
"Good news? What good news could I possibly have?" Lin Helian said with a bitter smile. The only thing she was looking forward to was for Yhan Zhan to come back earlier, to reunite with her and their son. Wait! Could it be?
Suppressing the excitement in her heart, Lin Helian looked at Luo Shu with anticipation, "The good news you mentioned, is it related to Yhan Cheng’s dad?"
"Mhm!" Luo Shu smiled and nodded. When she and Hanmo returned, they had left money and food for Yhan Zhan, believing he would be able to come back soon. Hanmo had already made arrangements for Yhan Zhan, and once he was back, a promotion was certain. From then on, Lin Helian and her son wouldn’t have to live so harshly anymore.
"Did you get some news?" Lin Helian was so excited that she almost knocked over her yogurt, but luckily, she reacted quickly and caught the cup.
Placing the cup on the coffee table, Lin Helian stared at Luo Shu with eagerness and anticipation, waiting for her answer.
"I just heard Old Lu mention it, said Yhan Zhan’s mission was complete." Luo Shu said with a smile.
"Really?" Lin Helian sniffed hard to prevent tears from running down her face. She was somewhat incredulous; after all these years of waiting, they finally had an outcome. But until she saw him in person, she didn’t dare to hope too much, afraid that the greater the hope, the greater the disappointment would be.
"It should be true! Just wait a couple more days, and there will be news." Luo Shu picked up the glass bottle of yogurt, and filled Yhan Cheng’s cup, "Yhan Cheng, your dad is about to come back, are you happy?"
"Happy! I’ve been dreaming of my dad returning. When dad comes back, everyone will know my dad isn’t a traitor." Yhan Cheng’s face beamed with a hopeful and brilliant smile.
Luo Shu nodded in agreement, "Your dad is a hero!" Every Guard Member and peace officer who takes on such dangerous tasks is deserving of respect. Not only do they risk their lives and deal with bad people, but they also face the blame and misunderstanding from family and friends.
"Wuu wuu..." Lin Helian finally couldn’t hold back her tears and started to cry.
The more she cried, the louder it got, as if she wanted to vent all the grievances she had accumulated over the days.
"Mom!" Yhan Cheng tried to speak up to comfort her.
"Let your mom cry, these past years have been hard enough for her." Luo Shu said. It’s not easy for a woman to raise a child on her own, not to mention having to face other people’s insults and ridicule.
Ma Xiufang was washing vegetables when she heard the crying from the next door and was startled, "Now she’s started to cry, that Luo Shu is indeed not easy to talk to."
She shook her head and sighed. It seemed that pleasing Luo Shu was not an easy task after all.
Lin Helian cried for a while before stopping. Now her heart felt much more at ease. This cry seemed to have vented all the frustration and pain stored in her heart, making her feel relieved.
"Mom." Yhan Cheng looked at his mother with concern. Although the aunt said it was fine, he couldn’t help but worry.
Lin Helian hugged Yhan Cheng into her arms, "It’s okay, mom is fine now." The only thing she was truly looking forward to now was that Luo Shu had told the truth.
"Mom, I’ll definitely work hard to become as strong as Dad, to protect you, so that no one can bully us or make you cry anymore. And Dad is coming back soon, then Dad and I can protect you together." Yhan Cheng patted his mother’s shoulder with his small hand, his bright eyes shimmering with a resolute light.
"Mom believes in you!" Lin Helian hugged Yhan Cheng tightly, her tear-stained face breaking into a firm smile. No matter whether Yhan Zhan would come back or not, she was determined to make Yhan Cheng’s life better.
Watching the mother and son embrace, Luo Shu felt a sourness in her nose. She sniffed hard and summoned a smile of blessing. The hard times were finally about to give way to sweet ones!
After a while, Lin Helian released Yhan Cheng from her hug and smiled apologetically at Luo Shu, "I’m sorry for making you see me like this." This time, she really lost control, but she just couldn’t help herself.
"It’s okay! Have some yogurt to soothe your throat," Luo Shu said with a shake of her head and a smile. She picked up a glass bottle filled with yogurt and filled cups for Lin Helian and her son.
Yhan Cheng grabbed his cup and downed more than half of it in one go. Setting down the cup, he looked at Luo Shu, "Auntie, when will you teach me?" He wanted to become stronger, faster.
"Yhan Cheng, can you read?" Luo Shu asked. Hanmo had already decided to instruct Yhan Cheng himself.
Yhan Cheng nodded, a trace of pride on his face, "I can. Mama taught me a lot of characters. She says that only by learning can one change one’s fate." He didn’t quite understand the meaning of those words yet, but if Mama said so, it must make sense.
"Auntie will get a book for you to look at," Luo Shu said as she stood up and headed towards the room. She soon returned with a book in hand.
She handed the book to Yhan Cheng, "Take a look at this and see how much you understand." It was a book on Inner Qi cultivation. Only with Qi could one become an Ancient Martial Artist.
"Okay!" Yhan Cheng took the book and began to read intently.
Luo Shu smiled and turned to Lin Helian, "Sister Yhan, didn’t you bring your handiwork? Let’s do it together."
Lin Helian thought for a moment and nodded, "Mhm!"
She stood up, walked to the door, and picked up the large bag she had brought, which was on the coffee table.
Luo Shu pointed to the coffee table, "We can do it here; do you find it convenient? If not, we can go to the dining table." Luo Shu had seen the handicraft the previous day; they were all decorative items for clothing.
As people’s living standards continue to rise, the demand for clothing becomes higher and higher. Many garment factories, in order to make their clothes more attractive, add some decorative items. Workers in the factory can’t keep up, so these tasks are outsourced to housewives who don’t have much else to do at home. In the Guard’s Members Courtyard, there were many Guard’s Wives doing these outsourced tasks.
"That works," said Lin Helian. The small accessories weren’t complicated; she just needed a place to sit and space to lay out the parts.
"Then let’s start," Luo Shu said with a smile.
Lin Helian set the bag on the floor, opened it, and took out two small bags of items, placing them on the coffee table. Then she took a part out of each bag, "These are the components for making the small accessories. I’ll make one to show you."
As she spoke, she began assembling the two components and handed the finished product to Luo Shu, "That’s all it takes."
"Got it," Luo Shu said with a nod and a smile, reaching out to take a component from each bag.
