Chapter 694: Six hundred and ninety-two, the words of man are to be feared

"Sister-in-law Li, we know we were wrong and we won’t gossip anymore."

"This time we only said it because we heard others talking."

"Yeah, we promise not to chew the fat again, please don’t report this up," everyone panicked when they heard Wu Yuan mention reporting, and quickly pleaded for mercy.

"What’s going on here?" Luo Shu walked up to Qi Hui and Wu Yuan.

"They were gossiping, saying that you and Yun Han were being intimate," Qi Hui said angrily.

Wu Yuan glared at the Guard’s wives, "If Qi Hui and I hadn’t also encountered you and Yun Han, who knows what they would have said about you. These people really have nothing better to do."

Luo Shu glanced at the Guard’s wives and smiled indifferently, "Sister-in-law, don’t be angry. Whether they believe in me or not doesn’t matter, as long as my Old Lu believes in me, that’s enough." She was living for herself, what others thought and said had nothing to do with her.

"That’s easy to say, but their slander of your reputation isn’t nice to hear," Wu Yuan shook her head and sighed. She also hated people who gossiped like this; they spoke without care, unaware of the consequences their words could have on others. Lu Hanmo trusted Luo Shu, but if it were someome who didn’t, what then would the consequences be?

Qi Hui nodded in agreement, "Indeed, rumors are to be feared! Throughout history, how many women have been harmed by such careless talk."

"Sisters, come to my place for a bit, it’s quite cold out here." Luo Shu reached out and took Qi Hui’s little son’s hand, smiling at him, "Sansan, come over to your auntie’s house, shall I get you something tasty?"

"Yes!" Sansan’s chubby little face lit up with a brilliant smile, happily nodding. Every time he visited his aunt’s house, she would offer him treats, and he liked visiting her very much.

"I won’t go, I still have to get back to finish cooking. I was only halfway through making dinner when I found out we were out of salt, which is why I came out to buy some." Wu Yuan shook the bag of salt in her hand, took a couple of steps, then stopped, turned back to the Guards’ wives, "This time will be overlooked, but if you spread rumors again, I’ll make sure you get reported and receive some proper etiquette training."

Everyone nodded obediently, "It won’t happen again!" Wu Yuan was the Company Commander’s wife, they’d be foolish to offend her.

Luo Shu didn’t even glance at the Guards’ wives as she walked home with Sansan and Wu Yuan. Her home, Wu Yuan’s, and Qi Hui’s were all situated within the Guard’s Members Courtyard, naturally they all lived in the same direction.

Qi Hui glared at the Guards’ wives and caught up with Luo Shu and the others.

"Who knows if they weren’t in cahoots with each other," said one of the Guard’s wives disdainfully, once Luo Shu and the others were far enough away.

"Stop it, if Sister-in-law Li hears us and actually reports it, then we’d really be in trouble."

"Alright, alright, let’s all disperse," someone said.

When Luo Shu got home, she went into the kitchen and made two cups of hot milk for Sansan and Qi Hui, then placed some sugar and snacks on the table. She truly appreciated Qi Hui and Wu Yuan defending her.

Qi Hui quickly waved her hands to stop Luo Shu when she saw her bringing out so much food, "We are not that formal, don’t put out so much. Sansan, you’re not allowed to eat so much sugar; it will ruin your teeth."

Looking at Sansan with his cheeks puffed from eating, Luo Shu couldn’t help but laugh, "Sister-in-Law, just let Sansan eat. This candy won’t harm his teeth." She had made these candies and sweets herself, and they wouldn’t damage the teeth.

Qi Hui shot Luo Shu a smiling look, "Don’t spoil him like this; otherwise, what if he insists on coming to your house every day in the future?"

"Then let him come. I have nothing much to do when I’m home alone anyway," Luo Shu laughed. She also liked it when her home was lively.

"When your own child is born, I really wonder how spoiled they will be," Qi Hui said, shaking her head with a smile.

"Auntie is going to have a little sister, and Sansan likes little sisters," Sansan puckered his lips, his eyes glistening as he stared at Luo Shu’s belly.

"You little rascal, don’t talk nonsense. Luo Shu, don’t take it to heart, okay?" Qi Hui lightly knocked Sansan on the head, looking apologetically at Luo Shu.

Under the new policy now in effect, Guard Members needed to set an example; hence, after Luo Shu had this child, regardless of whether it was a boy or a girl, she could not have more. With Lu Hanmo’s family background, he certainly would prefer to have a boy. What if Sansan accidentally guessed correctly, and they ended up having twin girls? What if Luo Shu blamed her?

In their village, when some wives got pregnant, the older folks deliberately asked the 3 or 4-year-old children whether the daughter-in-law was carrying a little brother or sister in her belly. If the child said a little brother, the elders would beam with joy and give the child some snacks. If they said a little sister, some superstitious elders would take their daughter-in-law to the hospital to get the baby aborted.

"It’s okay. I don’t mind these things," Luo Shu said with a smile. Now she could already see the gender of the baby in her belly. Besides, even if it truly was a girl, she and Hanmo would spoil her to the heavens. They did not possess the mindset of favoring boys over girls.

Qi Hui breathed a sigh of relief, "It’s good you don’t mind; I don’t really believe in those things much either. It’s getting late; I should head back to cook as well. Sansan, hurry and say goodbye to your auntie."

Sansan put down the milk in his hands, stood up, and bid farewell to Luo Shu obediently, "Goodbye, Auntie! Sansan will come to see you and the little sister again next time."

Qi Hui awkwardly wished she could cover her son’s mouth. Even if Luo Shu didn’t mind, she couldn’t let her son keep saying that.

"Sure!" Luo Shu smiled, nodded, and stood up to see Qi Hui and her son out to the door. Her fondness for Sansan was because he was a very sensible and self-disciplined child. Although he loved to eat, Qi Hui’s family discipline was excellent; every time Qi Hui would just say a word, and Sansan would obediently put down whatever he was holding. He wouldn’t throw a tantrum just because he liked something or couldn’t bear to part with it.

After tidying up the things on the table, Luo Shu also went to the kitchen to start making dinner.

By the time Lu Hanmo returned, Luo Shu already had dinner ready.

Lu Hanmo walked up and embraced Luo Shu, affectionately kissing her cheek, his hand gently resting on her protruding belly, "Have the two little ones been good today?"

Luo Shu smiled and nodded, "They were just more active in the morning."

Lu Hanmo scanned Luo Shu’s womb with his Divine Sense, a faint smile spreading across his lips, "Both little ones are asleep now." During this time, as he and Shushu cultivated, the babies in the womb had also benefited greatly. Not only had they developed faster than other children of the same gestational age, but due to the nourishment from the Spiritual Energy, their cultivation had already made achievements. One could imagine, the achievements of the children in the future would definitely be no less than their own.
