Chapter 681: 679, Wedding (Part 7)

"I’m dead tired! I really just want to lie down and not move." Meng Yujuan sat wearily on the bed, letting out a long sigh. She hadn’t slept a wink last night, tossing and turning, and had gotten up early this morning to dress and make herself up, which had kept her busy all morning.

Wang Fei nodded in agreement, "When I get married, I’ll definitely go for something simple. Just looking at what you’ve been through makes me tired."

"I think Luo Shu’s wedding was quite good, without all those complicated and tedious rituals," Chen Xiaomeng said. Seeing one after another of her friends paired up and getting married, she felt a bit envious. It seemed that she needed to find a partner for herself too.

"Yeah!" Zhang Qi nodded in agreement. Ma Dong had also mentioned wanting to get married to her, but she felt it was too early and refused him, planning to talk about marriage after graduating from university.

The group had chatted for only a short while when Li Hui came to knock on the door, asking everyone to head to the wedding banquet.

The private room was the same one as yesterday, but today the number of attendees was more than double. Everyone with any strength in Lin City had received the message and come over.

Li Zhijun grew worried when he saw so many people had come to offer their congratulations. He had anticipated that many would come today and had made preparations accordingly. Yet, the number of attendees today still gave him a shock. The seating he had arranged couldn’t fit everyone, and there wouldn’t be enough food. But the guests had arrived, and it wouldn’t be polite to turn them away.

Li Zhijun gestured to Li Zhenzhen, who was nearby and instructed her, "Xiao Zhen, could you please go to the manager’s office and see if we could arrange another private room. Also, check if it’s still possible to prepare more dishes." With so many guests, he couldn’t leave his post, and Xiao Hui was also busy; only his daughter could go and ask.

"Of course, Dad!" Li Zhenzhen responded and headed towards the office. Because her husband’s family was better off than her own parents, her mother-in-law had always been unsatisfied with her and would find fault with her from time to time. She had no choice but to swallow her grievances; otherwise, if her parents found out she was being bullied, they would undoubtedly seek justice for her.

But the Li Family’s conditions were far inferior to the Cheng Family, and if her parents went to argue on her behalf, it would only result in humiliation by her mother-in-law. Thus, she never shared her grievances with her parents.

This morning, when her in-laws found out that Lu Hanmo had visited her parents’ home to attend her brother’s wedding banquet, their attitude towards her changed drastically. They no longer asked her to make breakfast and kept fussing over her warmly, even her mother-in-law handed her a family heirloom jade bracelet. This was truly an unexpected honor!

Upon arriving at the manager’s office, before Li Zhenzhen could speak, the manager said with a smile, "Madam Cheng, are you here about the private room and the dishes? Don’t worry! I’ve already taken care of that for you."

Li Zhenzhen looked at the manager in surprise, "Which private room did you arrange for us?" People are so pragmatic; they all flock to where the benefits are.

"Private Room No. 3. Prefect Ma cancelled his booking yesterday, and the dishes had already been arranged," the manager said with a smile. After Prefect Ma cancelled the private room, he hadn’t informed the kitchen to cancel the order. Although Private Room No. 1 was spacious, the Li Family already had many guests, and it would be too small if more people arrived. To be prepared, he took the initiative without asking.

If the Li Family hadn’t had so many guests, he would have paid out of his pocket. Of course, he wouldn’t have paid for nothing; he would remind Li Zhijun to remember the favor he had done.

Since noon, he had instructed the waitstaff to keep an eye on the situation in Private Room No. 1. He knew he was right in his bet when the people who came were just as many as he had expected.

Li Zhenzhen returned to the private room and told Li Zhijun about the manager’s arrangements.

After hearing this, Li Zhijun immediately felt a sigh of relief. He quickly began to arrange seating, moving his own relatives and those of Meng Yujuan’s family to Private Room No. 3, leaving only Luo Shu’s table and some important relatives in Private Room No. 1.

"In-laws! Long time no see. I heard you’ve been unwell lately; how are you feeling now?" Li Zhenzhen’s in-laws came over with enthusiastic smiles. Normally, they wouldn’t bother to mix with a small family like the Li Family.

Even though the Li Family had some strength, they were of little help to the Cheng Family. But things were different now. They had heard that the Li Family’s daughter-in-law was close friends with Lu Hanmo’s wife. With this new connection, who would dare disrespect the Li Family from now on?

"Thank you for your concern! Yesterday, Yujuan’s friend treated me, and now I’m all better," Li Zhijun said with a smile. He had been suffering from a strained lower back due to the stress of preparing for the wedding. After taking Pill from Luo Shu last night, he felt no pain at all this morning.

"In-laws, you’re so lucky to have such a good daughter-in-law," Gao Meiyun said a bit enviously.

"Yes! That’s what I think too," Li Zhijun said with a smile. Lu Hanmo had acceded to make an appearance, all for the sake of his daughter-in-law being friends with Yujuan.

"In-laws! Those young people sitting with Xiao Hui and his wife, they must be their friends, right? Is Young Master Lu also at that table? Which one is he? Introduce us," Gao Meiyun said with a smile, looking towards the table where Meng Yujuan and her husband were seated. Lu Hanmo stood out like a crane among chicks, something she could easily discern. She was only asking to prompt Li Zhijun to introduce them.

Li Zhijun apologised with a smile, "It’s not that I don’t want to introduce you, but Young Master Lu has said before that he doesn’t like to be disturbed." He knew all too well what Gao Meiyun and her party were thinking. Who in the room wasn’t hoping for the same?

"We are different from the others! We are family, our own people. Young Master Lu would surely not get upset if he knew," Gao Meiyun said with a smile. How could she give up such a good opportunity? If the Cheng Family could rely on the Lu Family’s strength, what would they have to worry about in the future? Maybe they could even surpass the Xiao Family.

"Why don’t you go over by yourselves," Li Zhijun said with a smile. He had promised Li Hui that he would absolutely not bring anyone over to disturb Lu Hanmo.

Gao Meiyun and Cheng Yiqun exchanged glances and walked towards the table where Lu Hanmo was seated. Regardless, they had to try.
