Chapter 665: Six hundred and sixty-three, refuse

Watching the three Guard’s Wives leave, Guo Moli thought for a moment, then quickly walked toward her home.

After putting away the eggs and meat, she picked up the bamboo basket and went to Luo Shu’s door, knocking, "Is the Lu family sister at home? I’ve come to return the vegetables."

Luo Shu, a bit surprised by Guo Moli’s words, came forward and opened the door.

With a cheerful smile, Guo Moli handed the vegetable basket to Luo Shu, "Lu family sister, these are the vegetables I borrowed yesterday. Take a look and see if everything is correct." Originally, she wanted to put two eggs in, but in the end, she couldn’t bring herself to do so.

Luo Shu glanced at the basket and took it. It wasn’t any less than what was taken yesterday.

"Lu family sister, I heard you started your own cake factory, you really are capable." Guo Moli said, giving Luo Shu a thumbs up with a smile.

A hint of realization flickered in Luo Shu’s eyes, "Sister-in-law Shen, you flatter me! I still have some things to take care of, we can chat another day."

"Wait, Lu family sister! I have a favor to ask of you." Not giving Luo Shu a chance to refuse, Guo Moli blurted out, "I’ve been bored at home, you see, and was wondering if your factory is still hiring?" If she started working at the factory, not only could she earn money, she could also save on lunch. If she got on well with the canteen staff, perhaps she would have supper sorted out in the future, too.

"We are not hiring at the moment," Luo Shu said, refusing without a second thought.

Guo Moli secretly pouted and, with a grin, said, "Come on, Lu family sister, do me this favor. Your factory is so big, it can’t be hard to arrange a position, can it?"

"I’m sorry, I really am busy with other things." Having said that, Luo Shu reached out to close the door.

"Pah! How remarkable could it be." Guo Moli spat at Luo Shu’s courtyard door, still feeling aggrieved. She even kicked the door before reluctantly heading back to her own courtyard. She was, after all, the Squadron Leader’s Wife, dignifying the factory with her work was giving them face, and they were the ones rejecting it!

Thinking of the vegetables she had just delivered, Guo Moli felt even more annoyed. If she had known, she wouldn’t have brought so much; it pained her heart!

Luo Shu put away the vegetables in the kitchen and, hearing the telephone ring in the living room, walked over there.

She had barely picked up the phone when Zhang Xiaoling’s excited voice came through, "Luo Shu, I have some great news for you. Today I received several calls, all orders for our cakes, more than two thousand boxes!"

"Does that mean we have to work overtime these next few days?" Luo Shu asked, her lips curving in a smile. Seeing the cake factory doing so well made her quite happy.

"Yes! We can’t even finish all these orders. Today, I posted a recruitment notice in Caozhuang Village and hired ten additional workers for the factory, all quite capable. I think we need to get more machines too."

"How many do we need?" asked Luo Shu.

Zhang Xiaoling thought for a while, "With the current trend, we need at least four more."

"Fine. I’ll order the machines," Luo Shu agreed, then exchanged a few more words before hanging up as she heard someone calling for Zhang Xiaoling.

With the factory doing so well, it wouldn’t be long before she could fulfill Zhang Xiaoling’s wish. But there was one more thing that she hadn’t reminded Zhang Xiaoling about.

That was the factory’s products were too monotonous—at the moment, there would be no problem for three or four more years. However, as the economy developed everywhere, continuing like this would not do, so they had to develop new products to gain a firm foothold in the market.

Thinking of this, Luo Shu took out paper and pen and began to write a business plan. If she was going to do something, she wanted to do it the best.

Guo Moli returned home, fuming more and more by the minute. She had planned to hoe the ground and plant seeds, but now she was in no mood for it.

"What’s so great about a lousy factory anyway? I’m not even the least bit interested! Besides, that factory isn’t only yours..." Halfway through her words, Guo Moli’s eyes suddenly lit up. How could she have been so foolish? Wasn’t there a Sister-in-law Yang? Once those Guard’s Wives returned in the evening, she would find out who Sister-in-law Yang was and talk to her then. She didn’t believe that Sister-in-law Yang, knowing that she was the Squadron Leader’s Wife, would refuse her this favor.

With this thought, the gloom in her heart lifted instantly, and Guo Moli stood up, grabbed her purchased seeds, and went to plant them in the yard.

Lu Hanmo stepped off the plane with three soldiers and made his way to the soldiers’ camp.

He saw the soldiers sitting or squatting outside the camp, talking, each with a look of concern on their faces. In the past two nights, the soldiers that had gone out on missions returned only in scattering numbers. The rest were missing.

The soldiers truly didn’t know if the next one would be themselves. So, they took the opportunity to talk more with everyone while they still had the chance, in case they no longer could later on.

On seeing Lu Hanmo approach, the soldiers quickly got to their feet and lined up to salute, shouting in unison, "Good day, Deputy Squadron Leader!"

Lu Hanmo nodded slightly and scanned the group, settling his gaze on Yang Le, "Please, report the situation!" The leader of this mission had been Yang Le.

"Yes!" Yang Le promptly stepped forward and saluted Lu Hanmo, "Report, Deputy Squadron Leader! Ninety-two soldiers came to carry out the mission. On the first day, twelve soldiers went missing, seven on the second day, and eleven yesterday, leaving sixty-two." As he spoke the last part, his voice trembled slightly. Those missing soldiers were his comrades, who he had spent his days alongside.

Lu Hanmo nodded, his expression somber, "Tell me about the situation during the mission."

"Yes!" Yang Le responded, "Every midnight, a terrifying roar echoes from the woods, unlike any I’ve ever heard before. The local villagers say it comes from a huge monster, fast as a gust of wind. Those missing villagers were supposedly devoured by it."

"Our Centurion Troop has been trying to track it these past few days, but each time we only catch a glimpse of a shadow whipping by, never getting a clear look at the creature. Every time it appears, we lose a few soldiers," Yang Le said, his eyes reddening at the thought of the missing men.

"Tonight, everyone rests! No one is to leave their tents," commanded Lu Hanmo with a grave voice. Judging by Yang Le’s description, it must be a Spirit Beast.

"Yes, sir!" Although the soldiers were taken aback by Lu Hanmo’s decision, an order was an order, and the only thing they could do was carry it out strictly.
