Chapter 605: Six hundred and three, Tourism

Luo Jianmin was chatting happily with the people in the ward when two public security officers walked in.

They went straight to where Luo Jianmin and his wife were, and one of the officers said, "Old Uncle Luo, do you have time to come with us to the Public Security Office now?"

"Has the person responsible for the accident shown up?" Luo Jianmin asked. Luo Shu always acted swiftly and decisively, so he wasn’t surprised.

"Yes, the person responsible for the accident and their family are currently at the Public Security Office, and they wish to discuss the compensation issue with you," said another officer.

Current traffic regulations are not clearly defined, so it is usually settled privately between the families of the person at fault and the victim. If both parties agree to a suitable compensation, the case can be closed.

Luo Jianmin nodded, looking at He Yujuan, "I will go to the Public Security Office, and you mustn’t do anything foolish again." She had just tried to commit suicide by cutting her wrists, which truly frightened him.

"You go ahead, I won’t do it again," He Yujuan promised. Thinking back on her previous actions, she was filled with regret.

Luo Jianmin turned to the people in the ward, "Please take care of my wife for me, I will be back shortly."

"Old Uncle Luo, you can rest assured and go, we’re here," they said.

"We will definitely take good care of Aunt Luo, don’t worry!" They were all counting on the Little Divine Doctor to help treat their illnesses.

Upon arriving at the Public Security Office, Luo Jianmin was led into an office.

In the office, quite a few people were seated, including Zhao Yang, Zhou Xuemei, Chen Zhihe, and the head of the Public Security Office, Fang Jiang.

When Luo Jianmin entered, Zhou Xuemei immediately pulled Zhao Yang to his feet, "Hurry and apologize to the old uncle!" She had not expected this old man, who seemed so unsophisticated, to turn out to be Luo Shu’s big uncle.

Zhao Yang dared not disobey, stepped forward, and bowed deeply to Luo Jianmin, "I’m sorry, Old Uncle! It was my fault, please forgive me." He had heard from his mother that this old man was Luo Shu’s big uncle, and since Luo Shu was married to Lu Hanmo, that essentially made him Lu Hanmo’s big uncle too. With such a relation, not only was he willing to bow in apology, he wouldn’t resist even if it meant kneeling.

His current luxurious life depended on the Zhou Family, without them, he would be nothing. There would be no more cars to drive, nor would people call him Young Master Zhao to curry favor with him.

Luo Jianmin, with a stern face, walked past Zhao Yang to one side. He was holding back his anger; had they come forward to settle this sooner, would today’s events have even happened?

"Old Uncle Luo, our Public Security Office has investigated the matter thoroughly. Now that the person responsible and their family are here, you can sit down and discuss the compensation issue. If you have any other demands, please feel free to raise them," Chen Zhihe said to Luo Jianmin.

Luo Jianmin nodded, and sat down facing Zhou Xuemei.

"Old Uncle Luo, let me apologize first! I mishandled this situation, and you can make any demand, I will do my best to satisfy it. I will also take care of Aunt Luo’s medical expenses," Zhou Xuemei said with a sincere face. As long as this matter could be resolved and Luo Shu was satisfied with the outcome, even if she had to borrow money, she would meet Luo Jianmin’s demands.

Luo Jiansen sighed, reached into his pocket, and took out a stack of receipts, "These are the medical expenses for my old lady. As for the compensation, we can just go by the standard of a regular traffic accident." He didn’t want to extort anyone. What belonged to them, he would take, what didn’t, he wouldn’t covet. That’s why he never approached Luo Shu for help even though he knew she had money.

Zhou Xuemei was somewhat surprised by his words, "You only have these demands?" If she had known that the other party was so easy to talk to, she would have resolved the matter earlier.

"Hmm," Luo Jianmin nodded. His old lady was already out of danger, and with the medicine provided by Luo Shu, she would recover quickly.

The two parties quickly reached an agreement. After placing their fingerprints on the settlement document, Zhou Xuemei took out money and handed it to Luo Jianmin, "Old Uncle Luo, I am truly sorry about this incident. This is the compensation, please accept it."

Luo Jianmin accepted the money without much courtesy and counted it, "There’s an extra five hundred here." He handed back the extra money to Zhou Xuemei.

"Old Uncle Luo, consider the extra five hundred a little gesture from me. This matter has been delayed for too long, and I’ve felt quite uneasy about it. Besides, Aunt Luo will have to stay in the hospital for a while longer, won’t she? Consider this extra as additional medical funds," Zhou Xuemei said with a smile as she pushed the money back. Her family was not short of money; the reason for not resolving the issue earlier was the fear that the other party might keep coming back for more.

"I appreciate your kindness, but please take this money back," said Luo Jianmin, stuffing the extra five hundred back into Zhou Xuemei’s hands. He nodded at Chen Zhihe and Fang Jiang, then turned and walked out. He wouldn’t take a penny more than what belonged to him!

After leaving Cloud City, Luo Shu and Lu Hanmo arrived in Li City, a place with picturesque scenery, a simple local culture, a profound cultural heritage, and abundant resources, making it a great destination for tourists.

As they walked around the ancient town, they admired the unique architecture along the streets. The houses in Li City differed from those in other places, as most were of wood and earth construction. Common forms included: three rooms with a screen wall, courtyard houses with four sides and five skylights, front and back yards, single-entry double-courtyards, among other styles.

"Let’s go over there and take a look," Luo Shu said, spotting a shop ahead that specialized in traditional Li City attire and pulling Lu Hanmo towards it.

"Be careful," Lu Hanmo said, looking indulgently and helplessly at Luo Shu, who was behaving like a child, while deepening the smile on his lips.

Upon entering the shop, they saw that the garments for sale were very bright in color. The women’s clothing was mostly wide-sleeved, broad-lapel gowns, featuring wide sleeves, no collars, interlayers, and a shorter front than back. Pleated skirts made of black, white, and blue cotton cloth were common, pleated at the top, with a wide sky-blue border at the bottom, extending from waist to knee, fan-shaped.

The men’s clothing was simpler, all consisting of long robes. When worn, they would put on a diagonally draped linen garment over the outerwear, knee-length, similar to a monk’s cassock, with a rope tightened around the waist. The lower body was covered with long trousers, adorned with white leg wrappings and various colored cloth strips.

Luo Shu was attracted to a special sheepskin shawl and pulled Lu Hanmo towards it.

"This is ’Wearing Stars and Moon,’" the shop owner approached and said. He could tell that Luo Shu and Lu Hanmo were not locals just by looking at them.

"Hmm?" Luo Shu was somewhat surprised. She hadn’t visited here in her previous life; this was her first time seeing the traditional clothing of Li City.

"The sheepskin shawl is an important symbol of the attire of Naxi women in Li City. It is usually made from a whole piece of pure black sheepskin and cut into a rounded lower shape and square top. The upper part is stitched with a 6 cm wide black border, and the lower part is adorned with a row of seven colorful embroidered round fabric plates, each with two white sheepskin streamers hanging from the center, representing the Big Dipper, commonly known as ’Wearing Stars and Moon,’ symbolizing the diligence of Naxi women who work from dawn till dusk," explained the shop owner with a smile.
