Chapter 594: Five hundred ninety-two, not optimistic
Liu Yufei reached into his pocket and pulled out several talismans. "That’s all I have; I can’t do anything for those who didn’t get one." He had counted earlier—there were only nine talismans. He kept one for himself and gave out a few to the nurses who wanted them, leaving only three.
At the time he distributed them to the nurses, some people had scoffed at them.
Even an elderly doctor went out of his way to scold the nurses who took the talismans, and one of the nurses was even reduced to tears.
Liu Yufei extended his hand. He didn’t know who to give the talismans to; he could only watch to see who moved fastest for them.
People were quick in their actions, and the three talismans disappeared in an instant.
The three people who obtained the talismans were overjoyed. As for the others, they felt regret and nothing but regret. Initially, they had declined the talismans themselves, so who else could they blame? Many times, opportunities only come once, and if missed, they are gone forever.
The heavy rain had fallen all night, and the air was filled with the fresh scent of mud mixed with greenery. The moist air felt refreshing.
Lu Hanmo and Luo Shu went to the living room. They planned to bid everyone farewell and then spend a few days traveling.
Luo Xiuran and Luo Xiuyi were in the living room, drinking morning tea and playing chess. Seeing the pair enter, they smiled.
"Big uncle! Dad!" Luo Shu and Lu Hanmo greeted Luo Xiuran, then sat down on a sofa nearby.
Seeing a morning newspaper on the coffee table, Lu Hanmo reached out and picked it up. Reading the morning paper was part of his daily routine.
Upon seeing the news in the paper, Lu Hanmo immediately furrowed his brows.
Luo Shu was pouring tea and noticed the change in Lu Hanmo’s expression. "What happened?" she asked.
"There’s been a massive mudslide in Yunchuan County, and all the Guard Districts have sent people for the rescue," Lu Hanmo said. Since coming to this training camp, he had rarely gone out on missions, except for those difficult tasks others couldn’t complete. But seeing this news, he really wanted to go there and check the situation. However, with Shushu pregnant now, it wouldn’t be safe to go there.
"Then let’s go take a look," Luo Shu said. She understood him the best.
"But you’re pregnant, it’s not safe there. Why don’t you stay here, and I’ll go check the situation and come back quickly?" Lu Hanmo looked at Luo Shu’s belly. He couldn’t risk her safety.
"Are you saying you don’t want to take me out for fun anymore?" Luo Shu immediately showed a look of disappointment, gazing pitifully at Lu Hanmo with star-like eyes.
"Of course not!" Lu Hanmo quickly denied. He’d always kept his promises to her. It’s just that if he didn’t go to check the situation himself, he would feel uneasy. After all, it was a natural disaster, something beyond human control, right?
"Then take me with you. I’m not ordinary. I won’t be in danger, and besides, you’ll protect me, won’t you?" Luo Shu said with a sly smile.
"Let her come with you. This girl is stubborn," Luo Xiuran placed a chess piece on the board and said with a smile. He wasn’t worried about Shushu without cause; he was confident in her. As a True Cultivator and a doctor, she certainly knew her own situation best. He trusted her to act within her limits.
"Alright," Lu Hanmo said with a shake of his head, looking helplessly yet affectionately at Luo Shu. Should any danger arise, he’d have her enter a safe space, as her safety was his top priority.
After saying goodbye to everyone, Luo Shu and Lu Hanmo set off for Yunchuan County.
Yunchuan County was still being battered by torrential rain, and Lu Hanmo and Luo Shu landed on a mountaintop, slowly walking towards a distant campsite. They had used their Divine Sense earlier and found that Mo Shaoze was also part of the rescue team.
After handing over the injured to medical staff, Mo Shaoze stepped out of the tent. It was the third day of the rescue mission. The villagers from the nearby mountains had all been brought here.
To rescue villagers from more distant mountain villages, they needed to find a new safe location and set up tents; otherwise, even if they went for the rescue, they wouldn’t be able to return in time. If it weren’t raining, a day would be enough, but the past couple of days had seen continuous rain, making the roads nearly impassable. By the time they’d reach those villages, it’d be night, and rescue missions would be impossible.
Mo Shaoze walked back to the tent listlessly. If he had to abandon these citizens, he’d be troubled for the rest of his life.
Reaching his bed, he opened his luggage, took out a map, and began studying the terrain for the best routes.
The tent flap was lifted, and the people inside looked up in surprise, their mouths agape.
Mo Shaoze noticed and looked up as well. "How did you get here?!" Did they descend from the sky? Otherwise, how come there wasn’t even a speck of mud on them?
"We saw the news about this place and came to check," Lu Hanmo said as he placed a dripping umbrella aside, holding Luo Shu’s hand, they approached Mo Shaoze, and Lu Hanmo pulled up a chair for Luo Shu to sit. They had arrived on a Flying Sword, and because they had a Water-repelling talisman, rain couldn’t touch them at all. They carried an umbrella just to avoid drawing attention.
"Didn’t you say Luo Shu was pregnant? This place is so dangerous, how could you bring her with you? And how exactly did you get here?" Mo Shaoze asked curiously. In this weather, even planes couldn’t fly.
"How’s the situation now?" Lu Hanmo didn’t want to discuss that question since there were others around.
"Not looking good," Mo Shaoze said with a shake of his head and a sigh.
Pointing at the map in front of him, Mo Shaoze explained, "Look, we are currently here, and we’ve relocated the villagers from the surrounding few villages to this spot. But those two villages over there are too far, and we can’t reach them." They were responsible for eight villages in the area, and six had already been rescued.
"So what’s your plan?" Lu Hanmo asked.
Mo Shaoze pointed at a high ground on the map. "I want to send a group to this spot. It’s right between those two villages." His greatest worry was that the continuous heavy rain over the past days had already led to casualties amongst the villagers.
"Let’s check out that place and then decide," Lu Hanmo said. He had already looked into the surrounding conditions; villagers from one of the villages had gathered in a cave midway up the mountain. Villagers from another had taken shelter higher up. Since he arrived, Lu Hanmo had already dealt with the landslides in Yunchuan County, ensuring no more mudslides would occur.
