Spoiled By the Young Master After Reborn In the 80s -
Chapter 590 - 588, Mudslide
Chapter 590: 588, Mudslide
Mo Shaoze felt as though something was stuck in his throat. He took a deep breath, "Rescue!"
Sitting on the ground with a blank stare and faces full of sorrow, the villagers, hearing distant footsteps, turned their heads in surprise and saw uniformly dressed soldiers in rescue gear. A glimmer of life appeared in their previously empty eyes.
Though they had escaped death, they felt no joy at surviving the disaster, because the mudslide was still flowing incessantly. They didn’t know when they might experience another mudslide, where to go, or what place was safe. All they could do was wait helplessly for fate’s arrangement.
But now, someone had come to rescue them. The soldiers seemed like heavenly troops descending to earth, giving them a sliver of hope for life.
"Those who can walk, please follow us to evacuate first. Our soldiers will carry the injured villagers. Please rest assured! We will not leave anyone behind," Mo Shaoze shouted to the gathered villagers.
The villagers stood up one after another, and the soldiers hurried forward, beginning to carry the injured toward the camp.
After dealing with the villagers at the scene, Mo Shaoze led the remaining soldiers toward the village that had been destroyed by the mudslide. They had to act quickly, hoping to search the entire village before the next mudslide arrived, trying to rescue anyone still alive.
Thinking of the stack of talismans Luo Shu had given him last time, Mo Shaoze halted the group and distributed the talismans among them. All he could do now was hope that these talismans would keep the soldiers safe.
The team immediately entered the village and began searching each house. Because of the mudslide, the ground was muddy, and hardly any houses were intact.
After searching for more than two hours, they found no signs of life.
Mo Shaoze entered a half-collapsed house, and a faint breath reached his ears, "Is anyone there?"
"Yes..." A weak voice, almost inaudible, came from beneath the pile of bricks.
Mo Shaoze listened intently and quickly determined the person’s location.
Rushing to the spot where the person was buried, Mo Shaoze began to remove the bricks and tiles by hand, all the while encouraging the survivor below, "Hang in there! I will rescue you."
As time ticked away, and with Mo Shaoze’s efforts, the person finally became visible.
The individual was covered in yellow mud, their appearance indecipherable, and it was impossible to tell whether they were male or female. Had it not been for a plank of wood that providentially propped up their upper body, they might have inhaled the muddy water and choked to death.
Carefully pulling the person out, Mo Shaoze hoisted them onto his back and hurried outside. To him, time was a matter of life and death. The person he carried was breathing very weakly, and there was imminent danger to their life if they didn’t receive treatment quickly.
The soldiers who had entered the village to search had already left, and this time, they found nothing.
"Where is the instructor? Why hasn’t he come out yet?"
"He should still be inside, let’s wait a bit longer."
"Did anyone hear anything?"
"No good! The mudslide is coming! Run for it!"
Everyone hurriedly ran to higher ground. They were not afraid of death, but facing certain demise without the power to withstand it would be a waste of life. There were many others waiting to be rescued. Instead of making a futile sacrifice here, they would rather risk their lives saving others.
Now, their hearts were truly heavy, for their instructor had sacrificed himself. Against the forces of nature, no human could prevail, and they felt their insignificance deeply.
The soldiers returned to the camp with heavy hearts, and when they did not see Mo Shaoze, a sense of foreboding crept into their minds.
"Wang Bing, where is the instructor? Why didn’t he come back with you?" Ma Furan asked anxiously.
Shen Anning was tending to an old woman’s leg wound and turned her head upon hearing Ma Furan’s query. Where was that bastard Mo Shaoze?
"The instructor... he... he sacrificed himself..." Wang Bing said with a downcast face, allowing the tears to fall to the ground. A man’s tears are precious, shed only in the deepest sorrow.
Shen Anning’s hands paused; her heart felt as if it were being squeezed painfully tight. How could that bastard die? She was worried about him, wasn’t she? Impossible! After all the times he had offended her, she wished never to see him again.
"Nurse... be gentle..." the old woman uttered. The bandage was tied so tight, it was unbearable.
Shen Anning came back to her senses, looked down and quickly apologized, "My apologies, granny!"
The old woman shook her head, "It’s alright, just don’t tie it so tight again."
"It won’t happen again, rest assured!" Anning took several deep breaths, but the sensation of painful suffocation didn’t ease.
Mo Shaoze heard the roaring sound like thunder and knew he couldn’t escape this time.
The yellow torrent surged forth with earth-shattering force.
Mo Shaoze clenched his eyes shut and hurried forward. His only hope was that the talisman Luo Shu had given him would protect him. If he couldn’t avoid this disaster, then he had to accept his fate!
The yellow dragon roared ominously, swallowing Mo Shaoze in an instant.
As the mudslide engulfed Mo Shaoze, the talisman around his neck suddenly emitted a white light, enveloping both him and the person he was carrying.
Devoid of the anticipated painful asphyxiation, Mo Shaoze opened his eyes, looking around in disbelief. A layer of white light separated him from the mudslide.
He not only breathed without any trouble but could seemingly touch the passing torrent. This was truly astonishing! His admiration for Luo Shu grew even stronger!
After five or six minutes, the surroundings finally calmed down.
Mo Shaoze looked around to see the village, which had still retained remnants of ruins, had now been leveled to the ground. He once again marveled at the terrifying force of nature. If Luo Shu’s talismans could withstand such power, wasn’t that even more terrifying!
