Chapter 559: Five hundred and fifty-seven, rejuvenated
"It might just be psychological, but next time you go, you definitely won’t have that feeling again," Luo Shu said with certainty. She had buried Spirit Stones all around the yard, and wherever one went, they would only feel comfortable and the air fresh.
Qi Hui and Wu Yuan exchanged a look, "Alright! We’ll trust you this time." If they felt uncomfortable when they got there, they could simply leave.
"Sister-in-law Lu! We’ve come to pick up the cakes," a voice from a Guard’s Wife called out from outside.
Luo Shu stood up, walked out, and opened the courtyard door to see two Guard’s Wives standing outside, "Come in!"
"Okay!" The two Guard’s Wives nodded with a smile. This was their first time at Luo Shu’s home, and they had always heard that her home was beautifully decorated. Today, they finally had the chance to see for themselves.
The two Guard’s Wives walked into the house and were immediately captivated by the decor of Luo Shu’s home.
When they saw Wu Yuan and Qi Hui sitting on the sofa, drinking tea and enjoying pastries, they paused for a moment before realizing, "Sister-in-law Li! Sister-in-law Xu! You’re both here too!"
Wu Yuan and Qi Hui were like elders in the family quarter, especially Wu Yuan’s husband—he was a captain, and in the entire Guard District, only the commander and the regimental leader were above him. They had not expected these women to have such a good relationship with Luo Shu, let alone to be visiting her home.
"You can come get the cakes now," Luo Shu called out to the two Guard’s Wives from the kitchen.
"Coming!" The two Guard’s Wives smiled at Wu Yuan and Qi Hui before making their way into the kitchen.
Seeing two trays full of cakes on the table, the Guard’s Wives were a bit surprised. They had heard from Zhang Xiaoling that Luo Shu was baking fifty pounds of cakes and had asked them to come pick them up at three o’clock, but they had doubted Luo Shu could finish.
Stepping forward, each lifted a tray and found that there was no warmth left in them. This surprised them even more. In this weather, it would take at least half an hour for the cakes to cool down completely. This meant that, at the very least, Luo Shu had finished more than half an hour ago. Wasn’t her speed a bit too fast?
The two Guard’s Wives carried the trays back to Zhang Xiaoling’s home and placed them on the table, then shook out their somewhat sore arms.
"When we went to Sister-in-law Lu’s house, Sister-in-law Li from Captain Li’s home, and Sister-in-law Xu from Squadron Leader Xu’s home, were both there," one of the Guard’s Wives mentioned.
"What were they doing there?"
"Drinking tea and chatting, it seemed the three of them had a very good relationship."
"That Sister-in-law Lu really has skillful social tactics. She hasn’t been here long, yet she’s already connected with Sister-in-law Li."
"Exactly! Sister-in-law Li usually hardly ever mingles with us Guard’s Wives." Others said enviously. Why couldn’t they have that kind of ability?
"It’s not very nice to talk about Sister-in-law Lu like that! Don’t forget that the business we are doing now was her idea, which gave us the chance to make money," someone defended Luo Shu.
"Indeed, Sister-in-law Lu has been good to us," another Guard’s Wife spoke up for Luo Shu.
"We aren’t saying she’s bad, but don’t forget that moving there was also her idea."
"Anyway, I definitely won’t go there."
"I feel the same," everyone said as they packed the cakes and chatted. The thought of no longer making cakes here and not being able to earn money anymore made them feel somewhat distressed.
Time always flies during peaceful days, and before they knew it, a week had already passed.
In these days, rumors had been circulating among the Guard’s Wives that Luo Shu had not just rented that house but had actually purchased it and was now renovating it. Thus, the Guard’s Wives were divided into two factions, each holding their own opinions.
Luo Shu just smiled at this. During these days, she helped Zhang Xiaoling with some orders, cooked meals, practiced her cultivation, and led a very comfortable life.
After receiving a call from Wang Jinhui, Luo Shu drove to the house she had bought.
At this time, the gate of the courtyard had been painted a vermilion red, adorned with golden rivets that made it look very imposing.
Pushing open the gate, she saw that the green moss-covered flagstones on the ground had all been replaced with uniformly gray pebbles, assembled into various patterns that looked quite distinctive.
In the center of the courtyard, under a huge plane tree, there was a table and four chairs made of white marble. It was an excellent spot to sit and enjoy tea or play chess during leisure times.
Looking at the previously dilapidated tile house, it had been completely transformed with white walls, black tiles, and red carved wooden windows, doors, and pillars, giving the illusion of being in an ancient official’s home.
Entering the house, there was a living room with wooden floors, fabric sofas, coffee tables, and a television... To the side was a tea room, separated from the living room by a row of mahogany shelves displaying a few porcelain and bronze antiques, creating a refreshing atmosphere.
After touring around, Luo Shu revealed a satisfied smile.
"Chairman! Do you see anything that needs to be changed?" asked Wang Jinhui. He was also quite fond of this place; it was just a pity that it wasn’t his.
"Very good," Luo Shu praised with a smile. She was extremely satisfied with Wang Jinhui’s effectiveness. The place exceeded her expectations.
"Thank you for the compliment, Chairman!" Wang Jinhui said. He felt very happy to receive Luo Shu’s praise.
"I will ask Luo Qin to give you a raise," Luo Shu said with a smile as she walked towards the lakeside.
Stopping at the lakeside, she looked at the sparkling, crystal-clear water, where numerous colorful koi frolicked. "This place should have some lotus flowers planted," she mused.
"Which kind of lotus does the Chairman need?" Wang Jinhui asked. He had a friend who specialized in gardening, and he probably had some.
Luo Shu turned to Wang Jinhui and smiled, "I’ll take care of this myself." She had a level-one Spirit Plant, Purple Leaf Lotus, in her space, which would be very suitable for planting here.
Heading back to the front yard, she entered a room on the right side, where several long tables had been set up. This would temporarily serve as a cake-making workshop, with the adjacent room holding the machinery needed for making cakes. Once she found a suitable place, she would move the cake workshop out.
This would also be her home from now on, and she planned to use Formations to separate the front and back yards—who would like to have people coming and going all the time in their home?
Returning to the residential compound, Luo Shu went straight to Zhang Xiaoling’s house. Compared to her last visit, it now seemed even more crowded, with Zhang Xiaoling and Yang Le’s bedroom filled with packaged cakes.
