Chapter 555: Five hundred fifty-three, haunted house

"Luo Shu, should we go in?" Zhang Xiaoling asked, looking at Luo Shu. Aunt He was so scared, there must be a reason.

"Why not go in?" Luo Shu raised an eyebrow and smiled. She had already looked over the house, and not just one person had died here. Because they were all murdered, the wronged spirits had never dispersed. Especially at night, wails like those of ghosts could be heard coming from the place.

However, when she had scanned the house with her Divine Sense just now, she had already dispelled those souls. Now, aside from the interior being a bit run-down, there was nothing else there.

"But I’m a bit scared..." Zhang Xiaoling had never seen ghosts or deities, yet she often heard the elders in the village tell frightening stories. Over time, a shadow had naturally taken root in her heart.

"Don’t be afraid, I’m here," Luo Shu said with a smile, reaching out her hand to take the keys from Zhang Xiaoling. The layout of this house was somewhat similar to her residence in Cloud City. However, this house was a bit larger, not only boasting front and back courtyards, but also a large garden with pavilions, towers, artificial hills, and small ponds, clearly a place where ancient officials must have lived. The question was whether the other party would be willing to sell?

Seeing Luo Shu had already opened the door and walked in, Zhang Xiaoling took a deep breath and followed her inside. It was daytime now, what was there to be afraid of?

Upon entering the courtyard, the first thing that came into view were several dilapidated brick houses, their walls already mottled. The wooden windows, wooden doors, and red lacquer on the porch columns had peeled away from years of exposure to the weather, leaving only faint dark red marks. Despite that, one could still discern the house’s former splendor from these details.

The surrounding trees cast deep shadows, and weeds grew rampant, akin to a haunted house from a horror movie, especially at night, making one’s heart feel a bit furry just from looking at it.

"How can this place be so run-down? We can’t use it if we rent it, can we?" Seeing that nothing she had imagined appeared, Zhang Xiaoling’s heart settled down.

"It can be used once it’s repaired. I’ll go ask Aunt He in a moment to see if this house is for sale," Luo Shu said with a smile.

Zhang Xiaoling looked at Luo Shu, surprised, "Repairing this place will cost quite a bit of money. On top of that, add the price of the house, won’t that be four or five thousand yuan?" One can’t just spend money like that, can they?

"I really like this place. Once it’s repaired, those two large rooms can be used to place machinery for baking cakes," Luo Shu pointed at the two rooms to the right. As for the residential area, she planned to set it up in the back courtyard, so family and friends could stay over when they visited. She was particularly fond of that landscaped garden in the backyard.

Zhang Xiaoling looked towards the rooms Luo Shu pointed at; the house was indeed large enough to serve as a workshop.

But the house was truly too decrepit, she surveyed her surroundings and sighed inwardly. Only Luo Shu could have the courage for such a purchase; anyone else wouldn’t even think of buying it.

There was a rustling sound from the grass, and Zhang Xiaoling curiously turned to look, only to see a black insect over a meter long wriggling its body as it emerged from the underbrush, startling her with wide eyes, "A snake!"

Luo Shu stepped forward and kicked forcefully, sending the snake flying back into the grass.

"Let’s get out of here fast..." Zhang Xiaoling said fearfully, looking at where the snake had landed, afraid that it might come out of the underbrush again. Luo Shu was truly too bold, even daring to kick such a large snake.

"Yes!" Luo Shu nodded. She wanted to inquire about the house as well.

The two walked out of the courtyard, and as they locked the door, they saw an old woman standing outside, looking at them with incredulous eyes.

"Did you see anything?" the old woman asked with a fearfully glance at the house in front of her. If it weren’t for the fact that her home was right past this place, she would really rather not walk by it. Not only at night, but even during the day, the house gave off a cold and terrifying feeling.

"Nothing at all? Auntie, what exactly happened here? Why are you all so frightened?" Zhang Xiaoling was truly dying of curiosity about this place.

The old woman glanced at the courtyard and couldn’t help but shudder. "People have died inside... they were all murdered... I won’t say more... I’m going back now..." The more she spoke, the more scared she became.

Watching the old woman flee like she was being chased by a ghost, Zhang Xiaoling turned her head to look at the house behind her, feeling somewhat uneasy, "Let’s hurry up and leave." She had to convince Luo Shu not to buy this house; even without ghosts, a house where people had died would still be ill-fated.

Upon reaching the previous little shop, Aunt He greeted them with a smile, "So, have you decided?"

Zhang Xiaoling looked toward Luo Shu. She had been trying to persuade her the entire way, but Luo Shu remained resolute in her decision, and there was nothing she could do.

"Aunt He, is that house for sale?" Luo Shu asked.

"What? You want to buy that house?" Aunt He looked at Luo Shu in disbelief. That was a bona fide haunted house!

Luo Shu nodded with a smile, "I’d like to buy it, I like the layout of that house."

Aunt He came to her senses, looked at Luo Shu hesitantly for a long time, and sighed, "To be honest with you, that house is bad luck. People have died there, and it’s haunted, too." She really couldn’t get over her own apprehension!

"I know," Luo Shu replied with a nod and a smile.

"What?!" Aunt He looked at Luo Shu in disbelief. "You know and still want to buy it? Aren’t you afraid?" Was she sure this wasn’t a joke?

"I don’t believe in those things," Luo Shu said, smiling.

After looking at Luo Shu for a while, certain that she wasn’t joking, Aunt He said, "That house belonged to a relative of mine. When she left, she was the only one left alive in her entire family. She handed over the keys and the deed to me, telling me to deal with it as I pleased. After all these years, I’ve never dared to go there. I’ve always kept the key with me. Since you’re not afraid and want to buy it, I won’t ask for much. How about eight hundred yuan?" She dared not ask for too much, in case Luo Shu changed her mind; no one else would dare to buy it.

"Sure!" Luo Shu agreed readily, "When can we process the paperwork?" She liked to deal with matters quickly.

Aunt He glanced at the clock on the wall, "We won’t make it today. How about tomorrow morning at nine, I’ll wait for you at the Public Security Office in the town center, is that okay?" Selling the house would be getting a weight off her chest.

"Okay," Luo Shu agreed with a smile.
