Chapter 549: 547, Open Audition (Part 1)

The preliminary competition was arranged to take place in the grand auditorium of Tenglong Group. It was originally built to host annual meetings for employees during the New Year’s celebrations.

As Luo Shu led the group into Tenglong Group, they were greeted by Luo Qin.

"Chairman! All the seating has been arranged," Luo Qin said with a welcoming gesture, leading the group toward the auditorium. She had already made arrangements when she found out that Luo Shu would be bringing friends to watch the competition.

Wang Fei and the rest of the group were seated in the front row, which was just in front of the judges’ seat and offered the best view of the stage.

"Luo Shu, let’s go backstage to see Mu Wan," Zhang Qi said. She was very curious to see what the backstage was like.

Luo Shu smiled and nodded, walking with everyone toward the backstage area.

Mu Wan was getting her makeup done, preparing to sing for her talent presentation.

"Mu Wan, have some water to soothe your throat," a girl wearing a red dress, with long hair down to her waist, extremely beautiful, handed a cup of plain water to Mu Wan.

"Thanks, Xuanxuan!" Mu Wan, feeling thirsty, took the cup and drank it down in one gulp. She was actually quite nervous about the final competition. She had practiced the song she was going to perform countless times at home. Her mom said her ears were developing calluses from listening; she didn’t want to hear that song ever again after the competition.

"I’ll go get you another cup," Yan Xuan said, taking the empty cup and heading to the water dispenser.

As soon as Yan Xuan left, Luo Shu and the others entered.

"Mu Wan, how’s the preparation going?" Zhang Qi stepped forward with a smile and asked. After spending the previous day together, she and Mu Wan had become good friends.

"No problem! You all will soon be able to enjoy this lady’s heavenly voice," Mu Wan said with a narcissistic laugh.

"So narcissistic!" Wang Fei teased, laughing.

"Exactly!" the others agreed, nodding.

Luo Shu looked around the backstage, where everyone was busy preparing: some were applying makeup, others were getting their costumes ready, and still others were practicing the dance moves they were going to perform on stage.

All these girls had one thing in common: they were pretty. In this era, girls were all natural, untouched by any modification, yet still breathtakingly and memorably beautiful.

It was like the celebrities from Pearl Island City who were particularly famous at the moment, each with their own style, characteristic, and unique beauty. With just one glance, one could remember them and the classic roles they portrayed. Even decades later, those roles remained unmatched and unforgettable.

Not like in later generations, where at a glance, most had sculpted faces, high nose bridges, and big eyes—so similar that without a close look, one might think they saw the same person, and couldn’t distinguish who was who.

"Mu Wan, go for it! We’re all ready to listen to your heavenly voice," they encouraged her.

"Go for it! We’ll be cheering for you from the audience," they added.

"Then we’ll be going first," the group said with laughter, cheering Mu Wan on.

"Of course!" Mu Wan replied confidently, waving to everyone.

"Mu Wan, are they all your friends?" a girl wearing a Flame Robe came over, giving Mu Wan a Cooling Candy. She was preparing to perform on the guzheng, so she had specially ordered a set of Flame Robe for the occasion.

Mu Wan took the Cooling Candy, unwrapped the greased paper, and popped it into her mouth, "They’re all roommates of my friend, here to cheer me on."

"That girl in the purple dress is so pretty. If she entered the competition, she might have won the championship," a girl in a ballet outfit chimed in.

"She doesn’t need these," Mu Wan said, her lips curling into a smile. If Luo Shu wanted it, she could get it without lifting a finger.

Returning to the venue, Luo Shu and her group took their seats that Luo Qin had just arranged.

"Chairman, won’t you sit in the judges’ seat?" Luo Qin asked as she approached.

"This is fine!" Luo Shu said with a light smile. Although she came as a judge, she was not going to participate in the scoring but only needed to review the results of the competition. So, it didn’t really matter where she sat.

Luo Qin knew Luo Shu’s temperament and let her be.

The indoor lighting dimmed, and a pair of good-looking, tall hosts walked onto the stage. They were special hosts invited by Tenglong Group from the TV station. The competition would also be broadcast live on Cloud City TV Station.

"Good morning to everyone here and to our audience in front of the TV! I am the host, Bingbing."

"And I am the host, Li Xiang."

"Today, the two of us will host this unique preliminary competition finale. During the following contest, you will see performances that the contestants have carefully prepared for everyone."

"Everyone must be looking forward to seeing the contestants perform, right? Without further ado, let’s welcome our first performer today, Li Li. She will bring us a dance called ’Chasing Butterflies’! Please welcome her with a round of applause!"

"Clap, clap, clap!" The applause was immediate and thunderous.

Today’s guests were of considerable significance, including some TV station executives, journalists, social elites, as well as some Government Office leaders. Given Tenglong Group’s standing in Cloud City and the entirety of Yan Country, even without an invitation from Tenglong Group, they would have come unasked. With their network of information, how could they not know who was behind Tenglong Group and the status they held in Yan Country?

In the midst of applause, a girl in a dance costume walked out from backstage.

When she reached the center of the stage, she bowed slightly, nervous before the audience, then moved to the center of the stage and assumed the first dance position.

The music began softly and the girl started moving her body to the rhythm. Her movements were light and graceful, just like the name of the dance, resembling a fluttering butterfly, captivating the audience, who were drawn into her performance.

Not until the music began to fade and the dance finished did the audience come slowly back to their senses.

"Clap, clap, clap!" Applause thundered throughout the hall once more.

"That was so beautiful! I think I really saw a butterfly fluttering just now," someone exclaimed.

"I was completely captivated; how can someone dance so beautifully?" another commented.

"Being here in person really is different," yet another remarked.

"There were no dances this magnificent during the preliminaries; it seems they all save their ace for the last," someone else observed.
