Chapter 547: Five hundred forty-five, visit
After getting off the plane, Luo Shu led everyone back to her house in Cloud City.
"Your house is so classic! This must have been the home of a wealthy family before."
"I really like the style here. Can I come and stay often in the future?"
"I like it too! I want to stay here as well."
Luo Shu smiled and nodded, "When the time comes, I’ll give each of you a key. When you come to Cloud City in the future, you can stay here, but you’ll be responsible for cleaning!" She had deep feelings for this house, as it was filled with many memories of her and Hanmo.
"No problem!" Everyone replied in unison, laughing.
As soon as Luo Shu finished arranging accommodations for everyone and entered the house, she made a phone call to Zhao Aishu and Mu Wan to tell them that she had returned to Cloud City.
Right after putting down the phone, she saw everyone coming down from upstairs, chatting and laughing.
"Luo Shu, is there a place nearby to buy groceries?" Meng Yujuan asked. Everyone had suggested going to a restaurant earlier, but she thought it was too expensive and not tasty enough, so she proposed to buy some groceries and cook themselves.
"There should be. There’s also food in the fridge," Luo Shu replied. It had been a long time since she last visited Cloud City.
"I’ve never been here before, I want to go out and explore the streets." Meng Yujuan walked up and took Luo Shu’s arm.
"I’ll come too," Xiao Yan said as she ran forward.
"Are you guys going?" Meng Yujuan looked at the others and asked.
"It’s too hot, can’t be bothered to move," Wang Fei responded lazily.
"Me neither," Zhang Qi nodded in agreement.
"I’m going to watch TV at home; my favorite show is starting," Chen Xiaomeng turned on the television and, finding the drama she wanted to watch, sat down on the sofa. She had thought she wouldn’t be able to watch it today, but didn’t expect there to be a TV in Luo Shu’s place.
"I’m not going either," Liu Mengyao said with a smile and sat down next to Chen Xiaomeng.
"There’s food in the fridge, just help yourselves," Luo Shu pointed in the direction of the kitchen. She had someone fill the fridge yesterday, including vegetables.
Luo Shu, Meng Yujuan, and Xiao Yan walked out of the alley. Because of the heat, there weren’t many people on the streets.
At the street corner, they came upon a makeshift awning.
"This is the market of Fangting Town," Luo Shu said. She rarely came out to buy groceries, and she knew about this place because Aunt Chen had brought her here.
"It’s quite simple, but also quite fun. This is my first time in a market," Xiao Yan laughed as she looked around.
"It’s way better than ours," Meng Yujuan laughed.
The three of them walked into the awning and saw that there weren’t too many vegetable stalls, and many of the farmers were napping. The town was far from their villages, and taking unsold vegetables back was wasteful as they couldn’t eat them all, so they’d rather wait until evening to sell everything before heading back.
When Meng Yujuan saw that one of the stalls had lettuce for sale, she pulled Luo Shu and Xiao Yan over, "How much is the lettuce per pound?" She loved eating cold lettuce salads.
"One yuan and fifty cents," the vegetable seller replied with a smile.
"Can I get three pounds for forty cents?" Meng Yujuan bargained.
"Sure!" said the vegetable seller cheerily, "Miss, do you want to pick them yourself, or shall I help you?"
"I’ll do it myself." Meng Yujuan crouched down and started to pick. Growing up in the village and farming with her parents since she was young, she knew her way around nature best.
After choosing four lettuce heads, Meng Yujuan dusted off her hands and said to the vegetable seller, "Auntie, please weigh these for me."
"Alright!" The vegetable seller picked up the scales nearby, placed Meng Yujuan’s lettuce on the tray to weigh it and said, "Miss, this is three pounds and two ounces in total. Take another one, and it’ll be fifty cents."
"Okay! Thank you, Auntie!" Meng Yujuan accepted the lettuce, reaching for her money, but Luo Shu had already handed hers out.
Seeing Meng Yujuan look her way, Luo Shu smiled and said, "It’s my treat when you’re visiting me."
Meng Yujuan gave Luo Shu a smile and an exasperated look but didn’t stand on ceremony with her.
"There are tomatoes over there. Let’s go buy a few tomatoes," Xiao Yan suggested. Tomatoes were a good choice, whether eaten raw, sweetened, or fried with eggs.
When the three of them left the vegetable market, their hands were full.
"It feels so good to buy vegetables. Shall we come again tomorrow?" Xiao Yan smiled at Luo Shu and Meng Yujuan.
"My dear lady! We have enough to last us three days; buying more would be wasteful," Meng Yujuan said as she rolled her eyes, exasperated. She had long since developed the habit of being thrifty, and would never have bought so many vegetables if it weren’t for Xiao Yan getting carried away. Fortunately, they were staying for three days this time; otherwise, the vegetables would go to waste.
"But it’s my first time!" Xiao Yan said, looking awkwardly at the vegetables they were holding and laughing.
Seeing the Jimin Pharmacy up ahead, Luo Shu said to Meng Yujuan and Xiao Yan, "I’m going to stop by the pharmacy."
"Are you going to buy medicine?" they both asked, surprised.
"Going to see someone," Luo Shu smiled. Initially, when she came to town, it was Shopkeeper Liu who had helped her find Aunt Chen’s house. Otherwise, without a household registration book, it would have been difficult for her to find a place to stay.
Entering the pharmacy, they saw Shopkeeper Liu treating a patient. Fangting Town only had this one pharmacy, and since Shopkeeper Liu had medical knowledge, the townspeople would come to him for minor ailments.
Hearing footsteps, Shopkeeper Liu looked up and saw Luo Shu and her companions. A flicker of surprise crossed his face upon seeing Luo Shu; it had been a long time since he’d seen this girl. He had only learned of her marriage to Lu Hanmo when she had someone send wedding candy to him.
He recollected that initially, it was he who had told the Lu family about the wild ginseng she sold to him. Later, Lu Hanmo brought her to him, injured, for treatment. At that time, he would never have thought that two people who seemed entirely mismatched could end up together.
What’s more, Luo Shu was quite the capable girl. Not only was she skilled in medicine, but she also had an impressive head for business. In less than a year, she had built Tenglong Group, a behemoth in the business world.
Sometimes, he really couldn’t understand how this girl from the village, who had never been formally educated, knew so much.
After finishing with his patient, Shopkeeper Liu stood up and smiled at Luo Shu, "Girl, what brings you back here?"
"I haven’t been back in a while, so I came to visit. Did you receive the wedding candy I sent last time?" Luo Shu smiled.
"I received it. You’re so thoughtful, girl. How long are you staying this time? Didn’t Young Master Lu come back with you?" Shopkeeper Liu asked with a smile.
"He’s busy, and I’ll only be staying for three days at most," Luo Shu said. She noticed another patient entering and stepped forward, handing a bottle of elixir to Shopkeeper Liu, "It’s taken the same way as the usual pills. I won’t disturb you as you treat patients." She never forgot those who had been kind to her. If it weren’t for Shopkeeper Liu, she wouldn’t have found a house so quickly nor would she have met Hanmo so soon.
