Chapter 463: Four hundred sixty-two, banquet
Xiaxia Village didn’t have many villagers, a total of just twenty or thirty people.
When everyone heard from Xia Mu that Luo Shu was inviting them to dinner, they were all somewhat surprised. However, they had already planned to bring some items to Xia Mu’s house, so they carried the rice and vegetables they had prepared and headed over.
Seeing several tables set up at the entrance to Xia Mu’s house, everyone was astonished! They knew Xia Mu’s situation the best; most of the food at her house was given by them. Where had she gotten so much food to treat them to a meal?
Just as everyone had sat down, they saw Xia Mu, Uncle Agen, and Aunt Luo Xiang coming out carrying dishes.
The rich aroma of the dishes and the never-before-seen cuisine amazed them and made them swallow their saliva uncontrollably.
After all the dishes were served, Luo Shu also walked out of the kitchen. She went over to Xia Mu’s table and smiled slightly at everyone seated, "Today, Xia Mu and I invited everyone to eat this meal as a way to thank you all for the care you’ve shown towards Xia Mu. Please don’t be shy, eat as much as you like. If we run out of dishes, there’s more in the kitchen; you can help yourselves."
Xia Mu had picked her up from the riverbank and taken care of her for so many days. She was about to leave, but she couldn’t possibly take Xia Mu with her. Xia Mu was innocent and carefree, only here was truly suitable for her. Now, what she could do for Xia Mu was to repay these kind villagers on her behalf. She hoped Xia Mu could live even happier in the future.
Xia Mu, looking at Luo Shu, was moved and wiped the corner of her eye. It was so nice to have a sister! She really wished her sister would never leave, but she also knew that this was just her wishful thinking. Because she could feel that her sister was about to leave.
"We’re all fellow villagers, no need to be so polite!"
"This food is really delicious, I’ve never had such tasty dishes before."
"Indeed! I’ve never seen such exquisite dishes in my whole life," the villagers exclaimed joyfully as they ate.
Seeing the village chief looking at her, Luo Shu smiled gently, "Chief, do you have something to say?"
"You’re not an ordinary person, are you?" the chief asked with a smile. How could a normal person produce so much food in just two days and also defeat a large black bear?
"I am a cultivator," Luo Shu smiled and said.
The chief was startled! He quickly stood up and was about to bow to Luo Shu, but she stopped him, "There’s no need for such formalities, Chief!"
"Great Cultivator! I was rude before and have offended you; please forgive my transgressions!" the Chief said, trembling with fear. He had heard that cultivators often have bad tempers, prone to killing without batting an eye.
"Chief, there’s no need for that. If it weren’t for your medicinal herbs, I would probably still be lying down. I don’t know how to repay you for saving my life," Luo Shu said as she helped the Chief to sit down and smiled.
"I don’t want anything; things are quite good as they are." Seeing Luo Shu’s attitude, the Chief knew she was different from the cultivators he had imagined.
Luo Shu smiled faintly and handed a bottle of elixirs to the Chief, "This Jade Bottle contains the Hundred-Year Pill, which I am giving as a gift to everyone. Just one pill can add a hundred years to one’s life."
The chief looked at the Jade Bottle in shock. He had always heard about the divine skills of cultivators, but never imagined such generosity. A hundred years of life—he wouldn’t live that long in his entire lifetime!
Seeing the Chief hesitate to accept, Luo Shu placed the Jade Bottle in front of him, "Compared to the grace of saving a life, this is truly nothing. Please accept it!"
Returning to his senses, the Chief nodded his head excitedly, "Thank you, Great Cultivator!" A hundred years of life—that was a temptation no one could resist.
"No need to be polite, Chief! I will be leaving tomorrow, so please take good care of Xia Mu for me. If I have the chance, I will come back to visit you and Xia Mu," Luo Shu said with a smile. She could see that the villagers of Xiaxia Village were simple and honest people, but everyone has desires, and no one could guarantee they wouldn’t change.
She gave the Chief the Hundred-Year Pill to distribute, partly to repay him and also to have the villagers owe her a favor, so they would take even greater care of Xia Mu in the future. Of course, there was also a warning; she was showing how powerful she was—that she could grant them a century of life just as easily as she could take it away.
"Rest assured, Great Cultivator! I will take care of it," the Chief promised with a nod. He had understood Luo Shu’s intentions and would certainly convey her message to everyone. To let them know how strong the person behind Xia Mu really is. To let them know that even if they had any inappropriate thoughts, they should nip those thoughts in the bud.
The night grew deeper, and as the well-fed and full villagers left, Xia Mu’s house returned to its usual tranquility.
Luo Shu and Xia Mu lay side by side on the narrow bed, talking.
"Sister, can’t you stay a few more days?" Xia Mu asked Luo Shu, reluctant to let her go. She had just begun to taste the happiness of having family nearby, and now she was about to lose it so soon.
