Chapter 451 - 450, tit for tat
Chapter 451: 450, tit for tat
Luo Shu and Lu Hanmo walked into Bolton Winery and were immediately greeted by a rich fragrance of wine, so pure and inviting that one couldn’t help but feel the urge to try it.
There weren’t many customers in the shop, and as dusk was falling, the number of patrons on the street had dwindled significantly.
Luo Shu glanced at the wine racks displaying red wines and looked at the store owner, who was staring outside at the darkening sky with a panicked expression, "Hello! How many bottles of this Lafite do you have in stock?"
"Two cases, eighteen bottles," the owner replied, his gaze still fixed outside as if he feared something might suddenly rush in. With nightfall, his worst fears would come alive; he dreaded the bats, those who were bitten by them, and the dark night itself.
"Then please get them for me, I’ll take them all," Luo Shu said.
"All right!" the owner nodded and hurried towards the back storage. He just wanted to finish the business quickly and close the shop.
He quickly brought out the two cases and set them down in front of Luo Shu and Lu Hanmo. "One hundred and eighty Kingdom Coins."
Lu Hanmo took out the money and handed it to the owner. He had exchanged these Kingdom Coins when he was preparing for his wedding last time. Those roses he had specifically gone to buy in Country Y.
The owner took the cash, didn’t even bother to count it, and put it away, "Alright, it’s getting dark, you should leave quickly."
"Don’t be afraid, those bats won’t come tonight," Luo Shu said with a smile.
"Really?" the owner asked incredulously.
Luo Shu smiled and nodded, "This will all be over by tomorrow, good luck!" She reached out to lift the wine on the table, but Lu Hanmo had already picked up a case in each hand.
"Thank you, ma’am! I hope it’s as you say," the owner said, handing a bottle to Luo Shu. "This bottle is for you, wishing you good luck!" Having heard her assurances, he felt inexplicably comforted. This feeling was undefined and unexplainable yet it was real.
"Thank you!" Luo Shu took the bottle with a smile, handed a talisman over to the owner, and walked out of the winery with Lu Hanmo.
The owner diverted his gaze back to the talisman Luo Shu had given him, smiled faintly, and tucked it into his pocket. Regardless of its efficacy, he planned to cherish it.
It was fully dark now and aside from Lu Hanmo and Luo Shu, there was no one else on the streets, and all the shops had closed for the night.
"Let’s go back," Lu Hanmo said, smiling as he took Luo Shu’s hand and strolled with her through the night.
When Lu Hanmo returned, all the soldiers breathed a sigh of relief.
"Instructor! Colonel Chris has been looking for you quite a few times, wanting to discuss vampires with you," said Fu Qingyang. He was one of the centurions who had come with Hanmo.
Lu Hanmo nodded slightly and was about to turn and leave the tent when he heard footsteps outside.
"Mr. Lu, you’re finally back, come on, let’s go to the conference room," Chris said, also relieving a sigh of relief when he saw Lu Hanmo. These past days, fighting against those vampiric bats had all depended on the Yan Country Guard Squad led by Hanmo. So now, Chris not only stopped looking down on Hanmo and his Guard but also had some respect for them. The strong deserved respect!
Lu Hanmo nodded slightly and walked with Chris towards the conference room.
The conference room was already filled with people, and when Lu Hanmo entered, they all turned to look at him with respect. They respected Hanmo because he had shown them his strength.
However, there was one exception, Xiaoye Gongze. The better Lu Hanmo performed, the more he hated him, wishing he could have Hanmo assassinated. Why couldn’t those bats just bite him to death? That way, their MD country could lose a strong competitor.
Lu Hanmo gave a slight nod to everyone and walked over to take a seat in the open chair.
"I heard Mr. Lu went out this afternoon. It’s not good to go out at such a critical time," Xiaoye Gongze said in a tone full of mock concern.
"What’s it to you!" Lu Hanmo retorted mercilessly.
"You! I’m just speaking the truth," Xiaoye Gongze gritted his teeth, wishing he could turn into a vampire and bite Lu Hanmo, that bastard, to death.
"You’d be better off worrying about your own height problem," Lu Hanmo said with venom in his words.
"That’s a personal attack!" Xiaoye Gongze was so angry he almost coughed up blood. His height had been his life’s greatest regret, perhaps due to genetics, as people from his country were generally not very tall.
"I’m just speaking the truth," Lu Hanmo said lightly.
"You! I’m not having this meeting," Xiaoye Gongze said angrily as he stood up.
"One less of you makes no difference," Lu Hanmo said still expressionless, but his words were harsh.
"You! You! You!" Xiaoye Gongze was at a loss for words for quite a while, unable to find anything to retort.
"General Xiaoye, please sit down so we can start the meeting," someone suggested.
"The bats are the key issue right now; let’s set aside any personal grievances for the moment," added another.
"Yes, indeed! Harmony is key!" Seeing the two on the verge of another clash, delegates from other countries started to intervene.
Xiaoye Gongze gave Lu Hanmo a cold snort and sat down. He wanted to leave, but his status didn’t allow him to just walk away. So the only thing he could do now was to curse Lu Hanmo in his heart, hoping that those bats and vampires would bite him dead tonight.
"Mr. Lu, after so many days of dealing with these bats, do you have any good suggestions?" a delegate from Y country asked Hanmo. Their Guard Squad had managed to exterminate so many bats, surely they must know their weaknesses.
"These bats won’t show up tonight," Lu Hanmo said calmly.
"What?" Everyone looked at Lu Hanmo in surprise, not understanding what he meant.
"I went out this afternoon to resolve this issue," Lu Hanmo said, pulling out a bottle of antidote from his pocket provided by Adis, "This is the antidote for those bitten by the bats."
"Are you sure you’re not joking? You really solved this problem?"
"Miraculous Mr. Lu! If you’ve really resolved this issue, our Queen will definitely thank you personally, thank you and your Yan Country."
"Impossible, you must be lying, right?" Xiaoye Gongze stood up, pointing at Lu Hanmo and questioning him. Those were vampiric bats; how could he possibly have dealt with them?
"Idiot!" Lu Hanmo glanced at Xiaoye Gongze and said to the others, "It has indeed been resolved; tonight, we only need to treat those who were bitten by the bats."
