Chapter 408: Four hundred and seven, an imminent crisis

Due to the children returning home, Meng Family Village had become even livelier than usual, with every household brimming with joy as if it were the New Year.

Before noon, villagers had continuously come to Meng Yujuan’s home to bring gifts and congratulate her and Li Hui on their engagement. Originally, they hadn’t been in the mood, but now they desperately wished they could also hold a wedding banquet to celebrate the occasion.

Meng Yujuan’s parents, unprepared for so many guests, had declined the villagers’ kindness, but the villagers wouldn’t take no for an answer. They insisted it was such a fortunate double celebration that they had to share in the joy of the Meng family, even if it meant having just a piece of meat or a mouthful of rice.

Luo Shu and her friends came out of their room, and when they saw Meng Yujuan’s family all sitting with furrowed brows, they couldn’t help but be surprised.

"Yujuan, what happened?" Chen Xiaomeng approached and asked.

"Yeah, why do you all look so troubled?" Zhang Qi asked. Could it be the engagement had been called off?

Meng Yujuan recounted to everyone how the villagers had come to give gifts. Now that the villagers had brought gifts, they couldn’t really just give them a piece of meat or a mouthful of rice, right? But without doing so, they simply wouldn’t have enough time to prepare everything.

While they were speaking, two more villagers came in with big smiles.

"Yuping’s father, ah! Today we’ve really caught some of your family’s good fortune. Please accept this little token of my appreciation, haha..."

"Exactly! The kids were lost for so long without a trace, but today, as soon as Yujuan begins to celebrate her special occasion, all the children come back. It’s definitely the good fortune from Yujuan!"

The two villagers took out red envelopes they had prepared and insisted on giving them to Meng Yujuan’s father.

Meng Yujuan’s father was unable to refuse them and reluctantly accepted their generosity.

Meng Yujuan looked at everyone with a wry smile, "It’s been like this all day, but now if we go buy food, there won’t be enough space to sit everyone. The problem is, there’s no more food for sale at the market now."

"So what do we do?"

"This is indeed a difficult problem."

"The place to have the meal can be sorted out; the issue is that there’s nowhere to buy food," Meng Yujuan’s big uncle said with a frown.

"I’ll step out for a while and will be right back," Luo Shu told everyone and then walked out the door.

"Luo Shu, where are you going? I’ll come with you." Wang Fei hurried out the door but found that Luo Shu had already disappeared without a trace.

Luo Shu returned to Eight Desolations Hall, where she had seen many food items the day before, some of them ready-made. Because of the spiritual energy and the formation within, the food inside lasted longer than it did outside.

Upon reaching the kitchen, Luo Shu glanced around, waved her hand, and gathered all the grains, vegetables, and meat into her space. Noticing the wine nearby, she collected that into her space as well. Since these items would only go to waste here, it would be better to put them to good use. This would also solve the immediate crisis for Meng Yujuan’s family.

After leaving Eight Desolations Hall, Luo Shu loaded up the grains, vegetables, meat, and several jars of wine onto the ox cart she had borrowed from the village, and drove it towards Meng Family Village.

"Yuping’s father, come out and help quickly!" Just as Meng Yujuan’s family were frowning over what to do, excited shouts from the villagers came from outside.

Upon hearing this, Meng Yujuan’s family rushed outside immediately.

Stepping out the door, they saw an ox cart stopped right in front of their house, filled to the brim with grains, vegetables, meat, and even several jars of wine.

"Luo Shu, where did you find all these things?" Meng Yujuan exclaimed in surprise as she looked at Luo Shu, her face filled with disbelief.

"You really have divine skills! We owe you one again," Li Hui said with a smile, gratefully looking at Luo Shu. Having a friend like Luo Shu was truly their fortune.

"I have a friend who runs a restaurant in the city, I asked him to bring these over," Luo Shu said with a smile. The business of the Divine Doctor Family spread almost throughout the entire Yan Country, and Northern Xiang was naturally within the influence of the Divine Doctor Family. However, since there was food available in the Eight Desolations Hall, she didn’t need to seek help from the Divine Doctor Family.

"Then let your friend tell us how much it all costs, and we’ll settle it with him later," Meng Yujuan’s father said with a smile. With these foods, the engagement party could be held without a hitch. As for the money, the gift money they had received, along with their savings from the past few years, should be enough.

"There’s no rush, we can talk about money later," Luo Shu said with a smile, shaking her head.

"Then I’ll go to the brigade to borrow the cafeteria," Yujuan’s big uncle said joyfully as he ran towards the brigade.

"Luo Shu, we really can’t thank you enough for this!"

"You’ve solved our urgent need, thank you!" Meng Yujuan’s family said to Luo Shu with immense gratitude.

Zhang Qi and a few others stepped forward, thumbs up and smiling at Luo Shu, "Luo Shu, you’re incredible!"

"No wonder you said you’ve been here before, so you have friends here who run a restaurant."

"Luo Shu, I’m realizing there’s nothing you can’t handle."

"Mmm, I feel the same way."

Everyone said their piece, and Luo Shu just smiled without saying a word.

Not long after, Yujuan’s big uncle came running back, happily announcing, "The village has agreed to lend us the cafeteria."

"That’s great! First, take the ox cart over there, let’s go inside and pack up everything else to transport over," Yujuan’s father directed after assigning tasks, leading his family happily into the bustle of preparation.

With everyone working together, it didn’t take long for all the items to be moved to the brigade’s cafeteria.

Yujuan’s mother also called several village aunts to help with washing vegetables and cooking; everybody bustling about busily.

Luo Shu and her companions were also busy helping. Seeing someone bring red paper, they started cutting out the character for happiness and making red flowers, decorating the cafeteria walls and quickly making the scene festive and joyful.

It was around twelve noon when Yujuan’s mother called over the villagers to take their seats.

The villagers walked into the cafeteria with cheerful smiles, eagerly awaiting the dishes to be served. Nowadays, every household was so poor that they could only afford to eat meat during special occasions like weddings or the Lunar New Year.

Initially, they hadn’t expected Yujuan’s family to be able to serve them meat. However, they all heard that Yujuan had an incredibly skilled friend who had managed to provide a cartload of vegetables and meat for the family, and there was even talk of wine. This had them looking forward to the feast!

Once everyone was seated, the dishes were served one after another.

Seeing the variety of substantial dishes, the villagers’ eyes immediately lit up. Such a feast was something they could normally only dream of.
