Chapter 348: Three hundred and forty-seven, good friends

Li Hui coughed awkwardly and averted his gaze, saying, "I’m just hungry. By the way, how is Gao Zhichao’s uncle’s matter going?" Gao Zhichao’s uncle, Lin Zhengxin, was the deputy director of the Flower Fruity Liquor Factory, and he had also been implicated in the industrial alcohol incident.

His father and the vice president of the Jiangcheng Prosecution Office were old classmates, so he had asked his father to see if there might be a way to mediate the situation. Gao Zhichao was his good friend, and since Gao Zhichao had turned to him for help, he naturally felt obliged to try to assist.

Li Zhijun took a sip of tea from the table and slowly said, "I’ve already inquired about your classmate’s uncle, and it’s a bit difficult to handle." The Flower Fruity Liquor Factory incident had caused too much uproar—so many people had died, and someone had to be held responsible for it.

"Is there really no way at all?" Li Hui asked. Gao Zhichao had been running around and asking for help recently because of his uncle’s situation, and it really looked distressing.

Li Zhijun shook his head, "You haven’t stepped into society yet, and there are many things you don’t understand. It’s not that I don’t want to help your classmate, but this issue has now become the focus of the entire country. Almost everyone in Yan Country is paying attention to it. You better stay out of this, and when you go back to school, advise your classmate to let it go." Although the incident had happened some time ago, it remained a matter of high public interest; as long as there was no sentencing, the relatives of the victims would be watching closely.

"I understand!" Li Hui was not an oblivious person. Once he heard his father’s words, he got the message. It seemed Gao Zhichao’s uncle was not going to escape this predicament.

"Dinner’s ready!" Wu Qing’s voice came from the dining room.

"Let’s go, let’s have dinner." Li Zhijun put down his teacup and smiled, patting his son’s shoulder with his hand.

Li Hui nodded, stood up, and walked with Li Zhijun toward the dining room.

"Oh my, today’s dishes look really good!" Li Zhijun exclaimed with a laugh after tasting one.

"Yujuan helped with the cooking," Wu Qing said with a smile. She had just spent some time with Meng Yujuan and her impression of her had somewhat changed. However, she intended to continue observing her.

"Yujuan, you’re currently in the Traditional Medicine Department, aren’t you?" Li Zhijun asked.

"Yes, Uncle!" Meng Yujuan said with a smile and a nod.

"I saw on the news that, during the epidemic, Jinchen University’s Medical Department dispatched a medical team to the affected area and assisted doctors in dealing with the situation," Li Zhijun said, his tone carrying a hint of admiration.

"Yes, my good friend was part of it," Meng Yujuan nodded with a smile, a touch of pride on her face. She had heard that it was actually Luo Shu who had solved the crisis, but she had given away the credit, simply not seeking fame.

"Your good friend is also a freshman?" Li Zhijun said in surprise.

"Yujuan’s friend is in the same class as her, and her medical skills are very advanced. In fact, the quick resolution of the epidemic was largely thanks to her involvement," Li Hui interjected. He naturally had heard the rumors at school too. Plus, since Luo Shu had once saved his life, he held no doubts about the rumors.

"Impossible! I heard that the epidemic was resolved by a professor and his medical team. The news and newspapers reported that too," Li Zhijun said, somewhat incredulously.

"My friend doesn’t like to be famous, so she gave away the credit," Meng Yujuan explained.

"It’s true, I’ve seen her medical skills myself, and they’re amazing," Li Hui said with a smile. He hadn’t told his family about the time he had been poisoned by alcohol, as he didn’t want to worry them.

"Can your friend treat cancer?" Wu Qing asked.

"She should be able to, I think, but I’d have to ask to be sure," Meng Yujuan said with uncertainty. She knew Luo Shu was very skilled in medicine, but cancer was no ordinary disease, and she couldn’t guarantee a cure.

"Then give her a call and ask. Li Hui’s maternal grandfather has been diagnosed with stomach cancer, see if she could help treat it," Wu Qing said. She had been nearly driven to despair recently by her father’s illness after speaking with many doctors, all giving the same response.

"Alright," Meng Yujuan agreed, nodding her head and got up to walk over to the phone, picking it up to dial out. She wasn’t sure whether Luo Shu would be in her dorm at this time.

"Who is it?" A voice from the dormitory supervisor came through the phone.

"Hello! Could you please call Luo Shu in dorm C306 for me?" Meng Yujuan said.

"Call back in five minutes, and I’ll go check," the dormitory supervisor said, then hung up the phone.

Luo Shu was packing her bags. Actually, her luggage consisted of only an army green backpack. She had promised her godmother that she would spend a couple of days in Cloud City this holiday, to catch up with them.

"Luo Shu, someone is looking for you; I told her to call back in five minutes," the dormitory supervisor said, knocking on the door to enter.

"Okay!" Luo Shu put down her backpack and followed the dormitory supervisor towards the reception room.

As soon as she entered the reception room, the phone rang again.

The dormitory supervisor picked up the phone and, recognizing Meng Yujuan’s voice, handed the phone to Luo Shu and stepped out the door. She would usually monitor students’ phone calls, but Luo Shu was different—she was now a celebrity at Jinchen University, someone even the school leaders would need to give face to. As a mere dormitory supervisor, challenging Luo Shu would be foolhardy.

"Luo Shu, it’s Yujuan. I’m at Li Hui’s house right now," Meng Yujuan’s voice came from the other end of the line.

"How are you doing?" Luo Shu asked. Yujuan calling her now, it surely wasn’t a sign of trouble, was it?

"I’m okay! Luo Shu, can you treat cancer?" Meng Yujuan asked.

"Who has cancer?" Luo Shu said in surprise.

"It’s Li Hui’s maternal grandfather. We just talked about the epidemic situation, and I mentioned you. Li Hui’s mother learned of your excellent medical skills and asked me to inquire if you could treat cancer."

Luo Shu thought for a moment, "Give me the address; I’ll come over early tomorrow." For her, treating cancer now required only an elixir. As for whether she would treat him, she would decide based on Li Hui’s family’s attitude towards Meng Yujuan.

"Thank you, Luo Shu! Wait a moment, I’ll have Li Hui give you the address," Meng Yujuan said, touched that Luo Shu was willing to come to Lin City for her.

Turning her head, she gestured to Li Hui, who was smiling at her, "Luo Shu needs this address. You tell her."

Li Hui stepped forward and took the phone, "Luo Shu, it’s Li Hui. I appreciate your help with this."

"No problem, just tell me the address and I’ll note it down," Luo Shu said cheerfully. After all, it was convenient for her to go anywhere now.
