Chapter 342: Three hundred and forty-one, traveling by plane

Professor Shen sat down beside Luo Shu, smiling in an ingratiating manner, "Luo Shu, we meet again."

"Mm!" Luo Shu nodded and turned her head to look out the window, no longer paying attention to Professor Shen. It wasn’t that she was angry with him, she just didn’t like the feeling of being manipulated. Whether or not the decision was made by the school, it was certainly because of his influence.

Seeing Professor Shen’s behavior towards Luo Shu, everyone revealed a shocked expression. Who exactly was this freshman? Why was even Professor Shen, seemingly trying to please her?

"Making this decision, I had no choice either, who told you your medical skills were so advanced? I promise it won’t happen again," Professor Shen said with a chuckle, assuring her.

Luo Shu turned her head, raising an eyebrow, "Are you sure?" She wasn’t afraid of being manipulated, she just disliked the feeling. But if she really insisted this time, they wouldn’t be able to do anything to her.

"Certainly! Certainly!" Professor Shen quickly nodded his head with a smile.

Luo Shu lifted the corners of her lips in a smile, "Alright then, let’s say it’s an exception this time."

"Great!" Professor Shen said with a nod, handing Luo Shu a document, "Take a look at this data."

Luo Shu took the document and began to read. It recorded the situation in the epidemic area, as well as the latest outbreak. In just two days, the number of patients infected by Corpse Worm bites had doubled, and several deaths had occurred. It seemed the situation was getting more serious.

"What do you think?" Professor Shen asked, seeing Luo Shu closing the document.

"Maybe it’s possible the Corpse Worms have mutated," Luo Shu said. She had not seen the situation there and dared not make rash deductions. She could only wait until she saw the conditions on the ground to decide. If those Corpse Worms weren’t bred by a True Cultivation Sect, she could resolve the problem by preparing some medicine powder.

Everyone arrived at the airport and saw a troop of soldiers and two planes used by the Guard already waiting there.

After getting out of the car, Luo Shu immediately saw Lu Hanmo and a bright smile appeared on her lips, communicating through Divine Sense Voice Transmission, "Did you intentionally not tell me the other day, just to surprise me?"

"Yeah!" Lu Hanmo looked at Luo Shu, with the corners of his mouth curling into a subtle smile.

Luo Shu smiled sweetly and turned her gaze back, following the crowd towards one of the planes.

The plane was just a small Guard jet that seated thirty people.

"Luo Shu, let’s sit here," Professor Shen suggested, pointing to a spot. He felt that he had learned a lot from his conversation with Luo Shu all the way here. Although Luo Shu was younger than him, he knew her medical expertise was immeasurable. This was why he insisted on her coming to the epidemic area.

"Okay!" Luo Shu agreed and sat down. She also enjoyed chatting with the cheerful Professor Shen.

Once everyone was seated, Lu Hanmo and a few of his subordinates came in and took the remaining empty seats.

"The plane will take off shortly, please fasten your seat belts!" one of the crew members said to everyone aboard.

"How do you fasten the seat belt?"

"This is my first time on a plane; I don’t know how to use it."

"It’s my first time too, I’m feeling so nervous inside."

As it was everyone’s first time flying, their reactions varied with the imminent ascension into the sky; some faces brimmed with anticipation and excitement, some were pale, gripping the armrests so tightly they did not dare to move, some felt the urge to use the bathroom, and some simply closed their eyes.

After checking everyone’s seat belts, the warrior headed to the cockpit.

"Aren’t you scared?" Seeing Luo Shu’s composure, Professor Shen asked with a smile.

"Not scared!" Luo Shu laughed. She could already fly with Sword Control, soaring through the skies on her own, how could she possibly be frightened of flying in a plane?

"You really are extraordinary!" Professor Shen said with a laugh. He was becoming more and more intrigued by Luo Shu. He realised she was unlike any other girl he had met—barely seventeen or eighteen years old, yet she possessed a steadiness and confidence that was beyond her years, as if everything was within her control.

At that moment, the airplane began to taxi on the ground, then gradually ascended into the sky.

"The plane is taking off, it feels so thrilling!"

"So terrifying! Let me down!"

"It’s okay, stay calm! Just pretend it’s a dream."

Before long, the airplane was flying smoothly through the air. As everyone realized that being on a plane wasn’t as scary as they had imagined, their moods gradually calmed down. Some people gazed at the scenery outside through the airplane windows, others chatted with their neighbors, and some comfortably fell asleep.

Two hours later, the airplane slowly descended and landed on a Guard airfield.

Everyone unbuckled their seat belts and orderly disembarked from the airplane, where two Guard trucks were already waiting for them.

"It is a three-hour journey from here to the epidemic area, please board the trucks," one of the warriors told the group.

Without hesitation, the group, led by the head professor, boarded the trucks.

The trucks started moving slowly, bumping along the rough mountain roads. Everyone inside the vehicles was jostled about by the rocking motion of the trucks.

Luo Shu and Lu Hanmo happened to be sitting opposite each other. They seemed to be not communicating, but were actually continuously discussing the situation of the Corpse Worms through Divine Sense Voice Transmission. They both suspected that these insects were related to the True Cultivation Sect.

After a bumpy journey, everyone finally arrived at the epidemic area.

This was a large mountain village located in a remote area. Within a hundred li, this was the only village. If it weren’t for the telephone in the local company headquarters, even if all the people here disappeared, no one would discover what had happened.

The group followed the village leaders, who had already been waiting at the entrance of the village, into the settlement.

Because of the Corpse Worms, the entire village was in a state of extreme tension.

The villagers hardly dared to leave their houses, fearing that they might encounter the Corpse Worms and get bitten. Yet no matter how cautious they were, the Corpse Worms were near impossible to avoid; it was as though they could infiltrate through any opening.

To wake up and discover a Corpse Worm in your own bed, and a small bite on your body was a possibility.

Sitting and chatting, and suddenly feeling a sharp pain, only to find that you’ve been bitten by a Corpse Worm—such cases were numerous.

At first, when villagers started to get bitten by Corpse Worms, they showed symptoms of a cold and weakness, but it wasn’t too severe. However, in the last few days, the situation abruptly worsened, and there were even deaths. This made the villagers, already like frightened birds, even more terrified.
