Chapter 337: Three hundred and thirty-six, jumping off a cliff

Luo Shan staggered along the steep mountain path; the day the Song Family met with tragedy, she had taken the chance to flee in the chaos. She didn’t know where she was headed; with her body in such a shattered state, she couldn’t really go anywhere.

She had thought about going to Luo Shu, but after what she had done to her, she truly had no face to see her again.

"Ah!" A burst of severe pain rose from deep within her body, causing Luo Shan to stagger and fall onto the mountain trail. Every day at this time, she had to endure this endless suffering. The pain was heart-wrenching, as if countless ants were gnawing at her flesh, making her wish she were dead.

Looking at the cliff not far ahead, a resolute look flashed in Luo Shan’s eyes. The reason she had come here was that she knew of a bottomless cliff. She didn’t have the courage to seek death, but she also didn’t want to endure the pain that made life worse than death every day. The cliff was so high; jumping down, she probably wouldn’t feel any pain, right?

Gathering all her strength, Luo Shan slowly crawled towards the cliff.

She didn’t know how long she had been crawling before she finally reached the edge of the cliff. Looking down into the abyss, she hesitated. She was so afraid! Truly terrified!

"Ah!" The pain became more intense, and Luo Shan couldn’t help but scream aloud. The agony of this moment erased all her hesitation in an instant; she bit her lip and with a forceful turn toward the edge of the cliff, her body rapidly plummeted downward.

Looking at the sky growing more and more distant, Luo Shan slowly closed her eyes. If she could go back to the past, she hoped she had never left Luo Family Village. Back then, although she had been miserable, she had been truly happy!

Luo Shu withdrew her Divine Sense, her eyes somewhat dim. The day she left the Song Family’s home, she had left a trace of her Divine Sense. She was really disappointed in Luo Shan, but she sincerely hoped this wasn’t her final ending.

"Luo Shu, are you ready?" Outside the restroom, Wang Fei’s cheerful voice came through.

"Yes," Luo Shu responded and stepped out of the restroom. She hadn’t intervened to save Luo Shan; it was her own choice. Besides, even if she had saved her, what then? She could save her once, but could she save her for a lifetime?

People came and went on the busy street. With its development, individual stores sprouted up like mushrooms after the rain, gradually increasing in number.

After browsing a few individual stores, Luo Shu and her companions decided to visit the shopping mall. Although the individual stores had many clothes, both the styles and the quality were not what they were looking for.

In the shopping mall, there weren’t many clothing counters, and although the quality of the clothes there was much better than at the individual stores outside, the styles were much the same.

"What do you think of this one?" Liu Mengyao picked up a bright red shirt and showed it to everyone.

"Not so good," everyone shook their heads in unison.

Liu Mengyao could only put the clothes back where she found them, dejectedly, and walked on to another counter with the rest.

"Look! Aren’t the clothes in that store really nice?" Chen Xiaomeng pointed at a clothing store in the corner of the mall, excitedly saying.

Everyone turned to look, their eyes instantly lighting up.

"The clothes there are almost like the ones I saw in a movie last time."

"Let’s go check it out."

Walking into the clothing store, everyone found that the clothes were even nicer than they had looked from afar, not only in a variety of colors but also with new styles and good quality.

When Luo Shu saw the clothes in this store, she suddenly felt as if she had returned to her previous life.

"This dress is so pretty!" Chen Xiaomeng picked up a pink dress and held it up in front of the mirror.

"Luo Shu, help me pick one," Wang Fei said. The clothes were indeed good-looking, but she wasn’t great at choosing.

Luo Shu nodded, glanced over, and picked up a water-colored long-sleeved dress and a cardigan for Wang Fei, "Try this set."

"Okay!" Wang Fei smiled, taking them and heading to the fitting room.

The sales clerk approached with a smile, "Hello, ladies! All the clothes in our store are imported from abroad. Although the prices are a bit expensive, they are truly unique pieces from Jinchen." She hadn’t planned on engaging with them, but since they had picked out clothes to try on, she couldn’t pretend not to notice anymore.

By saying this, she also wanted to give them a heads up that the clothes from this store weren’t cheap. If they couldn’t afford them, it would be best not to try them on.

The group didn’t seem to understand her implication and were busy selecting clothes they wanted to try on. It wasn’t often that they stumbled upon a store that so closely matched their tastes, so naturally, they wanted to choose several pieces.

All of their families were financially comfortable, and their parents provided them with ample living expenses. Although they couldn’t buy too many clothes, they figured buying one or two pieces was still affordable.

"What do you think, does it look good on me?" Wang Fei came out of the fitting room and did a twirl in front of everyone.

"It looks good, really suits you."

"It completely highlights your best features."

"Luo Shu, your taste is spot-on, help me pick out a set too."

Wang Fei stood in front of the mirror, growing more pleased with her reflection by the second, and asked the sales clerk, "How much is this set?"

"Just a moment!" The clerk went to the counter, flipped through a booklet, and said, "The total for this set is four hundred eighty."

"That expensive?!" Everyone was taken aback by the price. It wasn’t that they couldn’t afford it, but the cost was indeed much higher than they had anticipated.

In Jinchen now, a salaried worker’s monthly pay was only about one hundred yuan. In other cities, the wages would be even lower. The price of this set of clothes was nearly half a year’s salary for some. Although their parents gave them plenty of living expenses, it still wasn’t that much.

"Could you possibly give us a slight discount?" Wang Fei asked. She did really like the dress.

"I’m really sorry! Our clothes have fixed prices," the sales clerk replied. She had anticipated this response. Although there were many wealthy people in Jinchen, rarely did anyone buy clothes from their store.

"How about we chip in together?" one suggested.

"Yes, let’s all chip in," others chimed in, reaching for their wallets, as they could see how much Wang Fei liked the dress.

"I’ll pay first," Luo Shu offered.

Wang Fei smiled gratefully at everyone and said to Luo Shu, "Then could you cover it for me first? I’ll give you the money on Monday."

"Sure!" Luo Shu nodded with a smile. She had plenty of money, but some things required principle. She could treat everyone to a meal worth one thousand yuan, but a loan was a loan, even if it was just a penny, she expected it to be repaid.
