Chapter 314: Three hundred and thirteen, how come it’s her?
"Thank you, but I don’t have the time," Luo Shu said with a smile, declining the offer. Participating in expert groups was what she liked least; those experts were often too full of themselves, and she didn’t mesh well with them.
"We’re working on a drug to counter a new strain of flu virus, and if the research is successful, it will be a great boon to the country and the people. I hope you’ll consider it," Liu Yufei said earnestly, looking at Luo Shu.
Still smiling, Luo Shu shook her head, "I’m currently focusing on my studies, I really don’t have the time." Having said that, she walked outside with Lu Hanmo.
Liu Yufei watched the two leaving with a touch of disappointment, shook his head, sighed, and turned to enter the operating room. He saw that the nurse had already dressed the patient’s wounds and had hooked up the IV with antibiotics.
"That young lady’s medical skills are really good!"
"Watching her perform surgery is a pure pleasure, did you notice that she could precisely locate the shrapnel without any instruments?"
"Yeah, how did she do that?"
Hearing the nurses’ discussion, Liu Yufei’s eyes flashed, and he stepped towards his office. Such medical talent, he had to let his teacher know.
Luo Shu nestled lazily in Lu Hanmo’s arms like a sluggish kitten, chatting with him intermittently about some recent events in their lives.
When Lu Hanmo heard that Song Chengyi had injured Luo Shu, his face went cold in an instant, and he emitted an immense aura of chilling killing intent. Had Song Chengyi been there, he would not have hesitated to kill him.
Gently patting Lu Hanmo’s chest, Luo Shu comforted with a smile, "See? I’m perfectly fine!" If Song Chengyi had truly harbored killing intent against her that time, she would have struck back without hesitation. At most, there would have been a disastrous showdown with the Song Family.
"Be extra careful in the future, and never put yourself at a disadvantage," Lu Hanmo said, frowning as he locked gazes with Luo Shu, his hand grasping her hand tightly. He would rather be hurt himself than see her in pain.
"Mhm!" Luo Shu nodded with a smile, reached out, and gently smoothed Lu Hanmo’s furrowed brow, "Hanmo, where is your cultivation at now?"
"I’ve just broken through to the late stage of Foundation Establishment," Lu Hanmo replied. With the Spirit Stone and the Spirit Gathering Array, his cultivation had improved rapidly. In just one month, he had advanced another level. However, as his cultivation increased, making further progress became even harder.
"I’ve only just broken through to the late stage of Foundation Establishment myself. I’m really envious of your talent," Luo Shu pouted enviously as she looked at Lu Hanmo. His talent was far superior to hers; whenever she made a bit of progress, it wouldn’t be long before he surpassed her again. But she was happy for him; his strength gave her a greater sense of security.
"Silly girl," Lu Hanmo said affectionately, playfully flicking Luo Shu’s nose.
"Knock knock knock!" Someone knocked on the door at that moment.
With a smile, Lu Hanmo released Luo Shu, stood up, and went to open the door, where a middle-aged woman wearing glasses stood outside.
"Who are you looking for?" Lu Hanmo asked in a mild tone. He did not recognize her.
The middle-aged woman bowed to Lu Hanmo, "Instructor Lu, I am Zhao Zhiheng’s wife. Thank you for saving him." She had received news that her husband was injured on the mission and was in grave danger.
She and her husband had been married for nearly ten years and always had a good relationship. If her husband had died, it would have been a devastating blow to her.
Upon arriving at the military camp hospital and learning that her husband was out of critical condition, she was relieved. It was from the doctor that she learned it was Lu Hanmo’s fiancée who had saved her husband. She immediately inquired for Lu Hanmo’s residence and hurried over to thank his fiancée.
"It was my fiancée who saved Old Zhao," Lu Hanmo said flatly.
"I know! That’s why I’m here, to thank her. May I see her?" the middle-aged woman asked, waiting for his response.
Lu Hanmo nodded slightly and stepped aside to let the middle-aged woman into the apartment.
Luo Shu was sitting in a chair drinking tea. From the sound of the visitor’s voice, she had already deduced that the person was none other than Teacher Ma Yanni, who liked to pick on her. She wondered how Teacher Ma would react upon finding out that Luo Shu was the one who saved her husband. It was quite unexpected; the patient she had saved turned out to be none other than Ma Yanni’s husband. It was too much of a coincidence to ignore.
Ma Yanni walked into the room and froze when she saw Luo Shu sitting on the couch drinking tea. "Luo Shu, what are you doing here?" She hadn’t liked the girl from the first time she laid eyes on her. To her, Luo Shu was a bit too ostentatious.
"Teacher Ma, what a coincidence!" Luo Shu said with a smile, putting down her teacup and standing up.
Glancing at Lu Hanmo, Ma Yanni’s eyes flashed with shock, "You’re not Instructor Lu’s fiancée, are you?" Was Luo Shu really the one who saved her husband? How could that be possible? She’s just a student!
Luo Shu nodded with a smile, "I am."
"It was really you who saved my husband?" Even as the truth stood before her, Ma Yanni still found it hard to believe that this student she always looked upon unfavorably was in fact a highly skilled doctor.
Luo Shu simply nodded with a smile, "It seems so."
"But how? Aren’t you just a student? How could your medical skills be so advanced?" Ma Yanni still couldn’t wrap her mind around it. Or perhaps, deep down, she didn’t want to accept that Luo Shu was that person, persistently looking for excuses to deny the fact.
"Teacher Ma, there’s no rule that says a student can’t possess medical knowledge, right?" Luo Shu said with a raised eyebrow and a smile.
Ma Yanni was left speechless, and after a long while, she finally spoke slowly, "Thank you for this time." Although she was extremely reluctant to thank Luo Shu, after all, Luo Shu had saved her husband.
"Don’t mention it! Teacher Ma, please have a seat and enjoy some tea," Luo Shu said, gesturing invitingly. She could tell Ma Yanni didn’t want to thank her, but it didn’t matter. She didn’t expect gratitude when she saved someone; she did it simply because the person was under Lu Hanmo’s command.
"No thank you, I have other matters to attend to," Ma Yanni said, then nodded to them both and quickly headed for the door. She didn’t want to stay a moment longer than necessary. Had she known from the start that it was Luo Shu who saved her husband, she would never have come in person. At most, once her husband’s health was restored, she would have him buy some gifts to show their gratitude to Lu Hanmo.
