Chapter 297: Two hundred ninety-six, stick one’s neck out
Upon seeing the middle-aged man, Fu Zhen’s emotions instantly spiraled out of control. He stood up and charged toward the middle-aged man, "I didn’t sell the restaurant to you; you stole it, you robber! Give me back my restaurant! Give it back to me!"
The previously mentioned tall man hurried forward to block Fu Zhen.
"I stole it from you? It sounds like you’re still dreaming," the middle-aged man said with a disdainful sneer.
"Give me back the restaurant, please... I’m begging you, okay? My whole family depends on this restaurant to make a living. Without it, we can’t survive," Fu Zhen pleaded bitterly, knowing he was no match for the adversary.
His mother was still in the hospital, and he had two children who needed to attend school. Since the loss of the restaurant, his wife had been ill with anger and continuously refused to eat in bed. Then there was the money he had borrowed; if he didn’t pay it back soon, those people would quickly come knocking at his door to collect the debt.
"Throw them out!" the middle-aged man commanded impatiently with a wave of his hand to the tall man.
The tall man quickly dragged Fu Zhen out.
Yang Mujing strode forward and shoved the tall man aside, pulling Fu Zhen behind him, "You’re going too far!"
The middle-aged man sized up Yang Mujing and smirked contemptuously, "I’d advise you not to meddle in other people’s business, lest you bring trouble upon yourself." He had powerful backing that allowed him to take over this restaurant.
"Let me tell you, I’m making this my business today!" Yang Mujing defied the middle-aged man with a challenging look. For the sake of enjoying good food in the future, he had to intervene.
"Let’s see if you have the ability to take care of it then. Call for backup," the middle-aged man instructed the cashier in the counter.
"Yes!" The cashier nodded, picking up the phone on the desk and dialing out.
The middle-aged man looked at Yang Mujing triumphantly, threatening coldly, "It’s not too late to leave now, but once my people arrive, it’ll be too late for regrets."
Hearing this, Fu Zhen quickly pulled Yang Mujing toward the exit, "Young man, thanks for standing up for me. Hurry and go; this is my problem, and I can’t drag you into it." He was genuinely happy for Yang Mujing’s aid, but that middle-aged man was no ordinary individual, and he couldn’t afford to implicate Yang Mujing and his friends.
"Boss Fu, it’s okay." Yang Mujing pulled Fu Yi back and sat him next to Luo Shu and the others. He couldn’t rely on the Yang family, for after his sister ran away, they had cut off his living expenses. They also threatened him that if he didn’t disclose his sister’s whereabouts, he would never receive another cent from the Yang family. But with Lu Hanmo around, he believed everything would be all right. In Jinchen, no one dared to challenge the Lu family.
Shortly after, four or five burly men entered the door.
"Beat them up and throw them out," the middle-aged man ordered the newcomers. Anyone causing trouble here clearly had a death wish.
The newcomers nodded and approached Luo Shu and the group.
Fu Zhen had already turned pale with fear. But thinking of the restaurant he had worked hard for most of his life, now belonging to someone else and facing both a beating and humiliation, a fierce anger rose in his heart. If he was to die, so be it, as living like this was a misery.
"Quick, go! I’ll hold them off," he said, charging towards the approaching men. He was risking it all!
Before he could take two steps, he was hauled back.
Then, a tall and upright figure shot out like lightning before anyone could get a clear look. The approaching men were already sprawled on the ground.
Everyone, except for Luo Shu and Yun Han, watched Lu Hanmo in shock. What kind of skill was this? How could he be so formidable?
Yang Mujing snapped out of his daze, his eyes sparkling with admiration as he gazed at Lu Hanmo. So impressive! It would be great if Lu Hanmo would teach him!
The middle-aged man came back to his senses, his eyes surveying Lu Hanmo, and his heart sank with a "thud." The man was undoubtedly a Guard Member, exuding an aura that suffocated him. If he had noticed him earlier, he would have never called those people over.
As Lu Hanmo’s gaze fell on him, the middle-aged man’s knees buckled, and he couldn’t help trembling. The oppression felt even more intense under Lu Hanmo’s stare.
Yang Mujing stepped forward, smugly addressing the now cowed middle-aged man, "I suggest you return the restaurant to Boss Fu, or you’ll surely regret it." Since Lu Hanmo had intervened, he had already made his stance clear.
The middle-aged man cast a fearful glance at Lu Hanmo, his eyes darting around before swallowing hard, "We can discuss this. Please excuse me for a moment; I’ll be right back to talk with you."
After speaking, he gestured to his subordinates and quickly headed toward his office. He had spent a great deal of effort to acquire the restaurant; how could he just give it back so easily? It seemed he would have to call in reinforcements. But who was this young man?
Entering the office and shutting the door, the middle-aged man immediately picked up the phone and dialed.
Once the call connected, he urgently said, "Brother-in-law, I’ve encountered some trouble here." He explained the situation in detail to the person on the other end, and also described Lu Hanmo’s appearance.
After a long silence, the voice replied, "I’ll be right there."
"Great!" The middle-aged man nodded happily. With his brother-in-law stepping in, there would be no problems here. Originally, his interest in this restaurant was piqued because of his brother-in-law’s word, which was how he had acquired it.
As for that imposing young man, someone eating in such a modest place shouldn’t pose a significant threat. Once his brother-in-law arrived, his true status would surely intimidate him. As for Fu Zhen, it seemed he was now expendable.
After sitting in the office for a short while, the middle-aged man stood up and walked outside. It was almost time to engage with them.
"That jerk probably went to get reinforcements," Yang Mujing quipped, sipping tea from the table, grinning at Lu Hanmo.
"Maybe we should just leave," suggested Fu Zhen, glancing anxiously at the stairs. His moment of courage had been spent. If the situation were to arise again now, he lacked the bravery to confront it.
"There won’t be any problems. We’ll definitely get the restaurant back for you today," Yang Mujing reassured Fu Zhen with a smile. He was looking forward to the show; how could he consider leaving now?
