Chapter 285: 284. Mastermind Behind Arson

"Brother, you should try cultivating too; I’ll protect you while you do. But I have to warn you, the pain is not ordinary; you must persevere," Luo Shu said with a smile. Thinking back to the pain she had endured before, she still felt a lingering fear.

"Okay!" Luo Qian Yu nodded, looking expectantly at the Spiritual Spring in front of him. As long as he could become stronger, what was a little pain?

Stepping into the Spiritual Spring, Luo Qian Yu began to cultivate using his usual methods, and soon, he felt the pain Luo Shu had mentioned. He realized then that it wasn’t just a little pain; it was significant, almost unbearable pain, agony so severe it felt like it was better not to live at all.

Luo Shu sat by the edge of the Spiritual Spring, watching Luo Qian Yu intently. Each person’s cultivation method was different, and she was afraid something unexpected might happen.

As time passed, the pained expression on Luo Qian Yu’s face slowly faded, and Luo Shu finally let go of her worry. Next time, she would let Hanmo try cultivating in the Spiritual Spring as well.

After giving Luo Qian Yu a glance, Luo Shu stood up and walked out of the space. It should still be a long while before he finished cultivating.

After leaving the space, thinking of the surprised look on Luo Qian Yu’s face when he had seen her earlier, Luo Shu stepped into the restroom. She also wanted to see the changes in herself now.

Seeing her reflection in the mirror, Luo Shu too showed a hint of surprise. Although her facial contours had not changed much, recognizing her as Luo Shu at a glance was not easy. She had not expected that a single Cleansing Marrow would bring such a significant change.

Thinking of the mask Yun Han had given her, Luo Shu took it out and put it on her face. Going out looking like she did now would surely arouse suspicion from those with ulterior motives.

Driving Luo Qian Yu’s car to the factory, she saw that everywhere was buzzing with activity. Following the incident with counterfeit products, the factory’s performance had not decreased but had more than doubled.

"Miss, you’re here!" Luo Qin came up to Luo Shu with quick steps.

Luo Shu smiled slightly and patted Luo Qin on the shoulder, "Well done!" Naturally, she was happy about the factory’s good performance.

"Thank you for the praise, Miss!" Luo Qin showed a rare bashful expression, "By the way, Miss, there’s something I need to report to you."

Luo Shu nodded with a smile, "Let’s talk about it in the office."

"Okay!" Luo Qin responded and walked with Luo Shu toward the office.

After brewing a cup of tea for Luo Shu, Luo Qin sat down next to her, "We’ve found the arsonist and have sent them to the Public Security Office." On the day they had caught the arsonist, she had tried to call Luo Shu to report the matter, but no one had answered the phone.

"Who?" Luo Shu raised an eyebrow. She had her suspicions early on, but didn’t know if they were correct.

"Luo Erya. It was she who instructed the workers in our factory to do it. According to the worker’s confession, he had only recently met Luo Erya, and because she gave him money and had engaged in improper relations with him, he agreed to help her with the deed," Luo Qin relayed the information she had learned to Luo Shu.

Luo Shu curved her lips into a smile, "I didn’t expect she really had the courage." She had suspected it was Luo Erya from the beginning. There were only a few who bore grudges against her; Lin Yu had been quiet since that incident, and the Song Family wouldn’t engage in such low-class tricks. As for the Yao Family, although it was possible, it’d be difficult to infiltrate Cloud City without the Song Family’s help, so the remaining possibility was obvious. Still, Luo Erya’s audacity took her by surprise once again.

Luo Erya did have some cunning, but it was all low-class and petty tricks. It seemed she hated her so thoroughly that she threw all caution to the wind.

Upon arriving at the Public Security Office, Luo Shu headed straight to Chen Zhihe’s office.

Chen Zhihe was examining a case file when he saw Luo Shu enter, he put down the document, stood up, and smiled, "Luo Shu! Please, take a seat!" Since that incident, he had gained even more favor from his superiors. He had heard they had already decided to promote him. All of this was thanks to Luo Shu, so naturally, he dared not neglect her.

"I came to see Luo Erya." Luo Shu didn’t take a seat. She was here just to see Luo Erya.

"I’ll take you there," Chen Zhihe said with a smile as he walked forward to lead the way.

Passing through a small building, Chen Zhihe escorted Luo Shu into a house surrounded by iron bars. This was where the Public Security Office temporarily detained criminals, before handing them over to prison once their sentences were fixed.

Entering, Chen Zhihe led Luo Shu to a room secured with an iron door, and after ordering someone to unlock it, he said to Luo Shu, "Luo Erya is detained inside. Do you need me to accompany you in?"

Luo Shu shook her head and stepped inside.

In a room of about four to five square meters, there was only a bed and a toilet, and the air was filled with an unpleasant foul odor.

Luo Shu slightly frowned and looked at Luo Erya, who lay motionless on the bed, and scoffed with derision, "How long do you plan on pretending to be asleep?"

On the bed, Luo Erya’s body stiffened momentarily, then she sat up, her gaze dark and hostile as she looked at Luo Shu, "Did you come to gloat over my misfortune?" Ever since she had instructed Ma Ming to start the fire, she had been living in constant fear of being found out by the Public Security officers.

Having not been approached by law enforcement for a long while, she had let her guard down. But then Ma Ming got caught for illegal gambling, and that led them to uncover the arson. Although she hadn’t lit the fire herself, as the main instigator, she couldn’t escape responsibility.

Yet she truly felt aggrieved. She had thought that setting the factory on fire would deal Luo Shu a significant blow. Instead, Luo Shu suffered little loss, while she ended up here. Having been imprisoned, her future was ruined. Even if she got out, who would respect her?

Luo Shu’s lips curled into a smile, "I just can’t fathom why you would do this." They might have had some issues, but certainly nothing so deep.

Luo Erya burst into frenzied laughter, "Can’t fathom it? Fine! I’ll tell you why. Because of you, my eldest sister married Second Fool, lives every day either being scolded or beaten, existing in a not-quite-human, not-quite-ghost state. My mother, since divorcing Luo Jiansen, has become insane. And me, to support my mother and myself, I’ve had to sell my body in exchange for work. You are to blame for all of this. Tell me, shouldn’t I hate you?" Every time she thought of these things, she wished she could eat Luo Shu’s flesh, drink her blood.

Luo Shu smirked with derision and turned to walk away. She had lost all interest in conversing with someone who, after making a mistake, only sought to blame others.

"Stop right there!" Luo Erya shrieked and charged at Luo Shu.
