Chapter 242: Two hundred forty-one, calligraphy

Luo Shu shook her head, and with a mischievous smile, she said to Zhu Huizhen, "This is something I made especially for you guys, it’s a benefit only for our own people!" Her factory would produce various kinds of cosmetics and daily necessities like shampoo and shower gel in the future, but facial masks were not on her list. However, she would make some as gifts for her family and friends.

"Luo Shu, when do you plan to marry our Hanmo?" Zhu Huizhen asked expectantly, looking at Luo Shu. "I am really looking forward to the day when you call me ’mom’!" She truly hoped that Hanmo would marry Luo Shu sooner rather than later.

"That depends on when Hanmo decides to marry me," Luo Shu laughed. Hanmo had already promised her father that he would marry her in three years.

"I’m going to call him right now," Zhu Huizhen said and really started walking toward the phone.

Luo Shu, chuckling, pulled Zhu Huizhen back, "Auntie, Hanmo is on a mission and won’t be back for half a month."

"Then, I will call him when he gets back," Zhu Huizhen had made up her mind. She was determined to get Hanmo to marry Luo Shu sooner. To have such an excellent daughter-in-law, she needed to make her part of the family quickly to feel at ease.

Luo Shu walked to one side and took out another box of facial masks from her bag, handing it to Zhu Huizhen, "This box is for Auntie Xueling. I’m going to check on Grandpa."

"You are such a thoughtful child, go ahead!" Zhu Huizhen said with a smile, holding Luo Shu’s hand and patting it affectionately.

Luo Shu went to the backyard, where the Old Master Lu resided. He liked tranquility, so unless there was something important, people generally wouldn’t disturb him.

"Uncle Wang, would you please announce my visit to Grandpa?" Luo Shu approached Uncle Wang, who was watering the flowers, and spoke to him.

"Of course, Miss Luo Shu, just a moment," Uncle Wang said with a smile, setting down the watering can and walking toward the house. He was very fond of the future lady of the house.

"Come in!" Old Master Lu was writing in the study when he heard the knock. He answered without stopping the brush in his hand.

Uncle Wang pushed the door open to enter the study and stopped three paces in front of Old Master Lu, "Master! Miss Luo Shu is here!"

"Let her in," Old Master Lu said with a smile, putting down his brush. He was very fond of Luo Shu, his future granddaughter-in-law. His fondness for her had nothing to do with her family background but was because of her excellence. He had seen many girls with good family backgrounds, but there were few as outstanding as Luo Shu.

Luo Shu entered the study and greeted with a gentle smile, "Grandpa!"

Old Master Lu nodded happily and beckoned to Luo Shu, "Luo Shu, come see how Grandpa’s calligraphy is turning out." He had seen the prescription Luo Shu wrote last time and knew her handwriting was very good.

Luo Shu stepped forward and handed the tea leaves to Old Master Lu, "Grandpa, this is for you." Last time Old Master Lu had really enjoyed the tea she gave him. This time she had specially picked more fresh tea leaves from the space and roasted two cans just for him. The tea leaves contained spiritual energy, which could adjust the body and revitalize its functions.

"Great!" Old Master Lu accepted the tea leaves with joy. Luo Shu was going to be his granddaughter-in-law, so he had no need to stand on ceremony with her.

Luo Shu looked at the Xuan Paper on the desk, upon which was fiercely and vigorously written the phrase "Champion overlooking the vast ocean, with long wings braving the strong winds."

"Grandpa’s handwriting is vigorous and forceful, reflecting a spirit of completion and continuity, much like towering mountains and vast landscapes, demonstrating the depth of your skill," Luo Shu praised.

Old Master Lu beamed with joy at Luo Shu’s words and laughed heartily, "Luo Shu, although your words are a bit flattering, I enjoy hearing them. Come on! Write a piece for Grandpa to see as well."

"Alright, then! I shall humbly present my modest skills." Luo Shu approached, took a sheet of Xuan paper, spread it out on the table, grabbed a brush from the stand, and began to swiftly scribe across the paper with fluid strokes like a dragon dancing and a snake slithering.

"The wind howls, the Yi River cold." These bold characters instantly appeared on the paper.

"The phoenix soars and settles, and though the brushwork is slightly lacking in vigor, it possesses a unique style. For someone your age to have such fine calligraphy is truly no small feat," Old Master Lu remarked, his eyes brimming with admiration as he watched Luo Shu.

"Grandfather flatters me!" Luo Shu modestly replied. She had endured untold hardships to practice this calligraphy, achieving only minor success. Yet, compared to other members of her family, her calligraphy still fell short.

After dinner at the Lu family’s home, Luo Shu declined everyone’s kind offer for her to stay the night and took her leave.

Arriving at the hospital, Luo Shu placed the freshly bought dinner before Luo Zheng. In the end, she couldn’t bring herself to be hard-hearted toward Luo Zheng.

"Big sister!" Luo Zheng exclaimed with joy upon seeing Luo Shu.

"Eat," Luo Shu said in a flat tone.

Luo Zheng nodded happily, took the dinner, and began to eat. Although his big sister was angry with him, she still cared for him in her heart; otherwise, she wouldn’t have brought him dinner.

After setting the food container aside, Luo Zheng wiped his mouth and said, "Big sister, when I first went to the Song Family, I just wanted to see the place where Mom lived. It was only once I got there that I realized the Song Family people are utterly heartless. In their eyes, if you are of no use to them, they won’t give you a second glance."

Glancing at Luo Shu, Luo Zheng continued, "That day, a woman who looked exactly like Mom came to the Song Family with her daughter. They called us down without any reason and beat both Second Sister and me."

Luo Zheng spoke at length about his and Luo Shan’s experiences at the Song Family’s place. He wasn’t telling these stories to gain his big sister’s forgiveness, but rather to make her aware of how terrible the Song Family was, hoping she wouldn’t be deceived by Song Xiran like he and Second Sister had been.

After listening to Luo Zheng’s account, Luo Shu stood up and said indifferently, "You should rest, I’ll come to pick you up tomorrow morning."

Yao Qing lay on the bed, engrossed in a novel. Recently, she had become infatuated with Qiongyao’s novels.

Just as she reached an exciting part, she suddenly felt a draft of cold air blow in and turned her head to see the window had somehow opened on its own.

"I’m sure I closed it," she murmured in puzzlement, frowning slightly. Yao Qing got up, approached, and closed the window.

Just as she was about to return to her bed to continue reading, a numbness struck her back, and she found herself completely immobilized.

Then, she was pushed onto the bed by an unseen force. Before she could react, a sharp pain struck her wrist, and a warm liquid began to gush swiftly from it, quickly drenching the mattress beneath her and the floor in a stark red.

Yao Qing’s eyes widened in helplessness and despair. She wanted to scream, but no sound came out. She could only feel, slowly and inexorably, the life draining from her body, bit by bit. Even in death, she couldn’t understand how she had died.

Luo Shu looked down at Yao Qing on the bed with a cold sneer and turned to leave the room. Though she wouldn’t save Luo Shan from the Song Family, she would not let those who bullied Luo Shan go unpunished.
