Chapter 239: Two hundred thirty-eight, injured
Luo Zheng was chatting with Aunt Li inside the house when he saw Uncle Li, his face aglow with excitement, rush in from outside.
Aunt Li glared at Uncle Li with mock rebuke, "You old man, why are you running so fast? What if you fall?"
"I just forgot myself because I was so happy," Uncle Li said with an embarrassed smile.
"What’s there to be so happy about? Could it be that you’ve found the Little Divine Doctor?" Aunt Li teased with a smile.
Uncle Li chuckled, sat down on a chair, picked up the teapot from the table, poured a cup of water, took a sip, and then said, "You guessed right, I’ve gotten in touch with the Little Divine Doctor. She’s currently in Cloud City. She heard that Xiao Zheng is here with us and said she would send someone to pick him up soon."
"Really?!" Luo Zheng and Aunt Li asked in surprise at the same time.
"Of course it’s true. Would I joke about something like this?" Uncle Li laughed.
"That’s wonderful!" Luo Zheng said, smiling happily. But then he thought of Luo Shan still being with the Song Family, and his heart filled with worry again. How is Second Sister doing now? He was really concerned!
As the three of them were chatting, two tall men came from outside, "Is Luo Zheng here?"
"I am Luo Zheng," Luo Zheng said as he walked out of the house happily. He hadn’t expected Brother Lu’s people to arrive so soon.
"Come with us," one of the men said expressionlessly.
"Okay!" Luo Zheng nodded. The last time the Lu family sent Fu Yi and Qian Wei to protect his sister, they were just as icy, so he was not surprised by the men’s aloof demeanor.
He bowed to Uncle Li and Aunt Li, "Uncle Li! Aunt Li! Thank you for taking care of me these past few days. I’ll come back to visit you when I have time."
"Go ahead!" Aunt Li, wiping the corner of her eye, waved at Luo Zheng with a smile. Since Luo Zheng came to their home, it had become much livelier, making it feel more like a home.
As they watched Luo Zheng and the two men leave, Uncle Li comforted Aunt Li with pats on her back, "Alright, don’t cry. It’s a good thing that Xiao Zheng has found his family."
"I know, but I just can’t help feeling sad!" Aunt Li said, tears streaming down even more as she wiped them away.
"Let’s go back inside," said Uncle Li, helping Aunt Li into the house. With Xiao Zheng gone, his heart was heavy too.
Not long after they returned inside, two more men came in, "Excuse me, does Luo Zheng live here?"
Uncle Li and Aunt Li exchanged puzzled glances, stepped out of the house, and looked at Fu Yi and Qian Wei in the courtyard, "Luo Zheng has already been picked up. Who are you?"
"Picked up? When?" Fu Yi asked with a frown. It seemed they were a step too late.
"Just now!" Uncle Li said. A bad premonition suddenly struck him.
Fu Yi and Qian Wei exchanged a look and hurriedly chased after.
"Xiao Zheng won’t be in any danger, right?" Aunt Li said anxiously.
"No, there won’t be any trouble. Xiao Zheng is so clever; he will certainly be fine," Uncle Li reassured her, though he, too, was anxious inside.
Luo Zheng, observing the direction the car was taking, felt puzzled. Wasn’t this the way to the Song Family’s place? Could it be that Brother Lu’s home and the Song Family’s home were in the same area?
"Where are you taking me?" Luo Zheng asked.
"You’ll know when we get there," the man sitting with Luo Zheng in the backseat said, his face expressionless.
"Who sent you to pick me up?" The unease in Luo Zheng’s heart grew stronger. He had a feeling these two might be a problem.
"You don’t need to know that," the man beside him said coldly.
Luo Zheng stopped talking and turned to look out the window. Although he seemed to be admiring the scenery, he was actually looking for an opportunity to escape. If these men were really sent by his sister, they wouldn’t fail to tell him who sent them, unless they were from the Song Family. But how did the Song Family know where he was?
The car sped along the road, and Luo Zheng’s hand quietly reached for the handle of the car door. He remembered there was a small grove not far ahead, and if he were to escape, that would be the best chance.
Sure enough, before long, a small grove appeared in Luo Zheng’s view. The moment the car reached the edge of the woods, Luo Zheng didn’t hesitate to open the door and jump out.
The two men were taken aback, and the driver quickly hit the brakes. Luo Zheng’s sudden escape was something they hadn’t anticipated.
"Screech!" The sound of brakes echoed.
The car doors flew open, and the two men jumped out, quickly chasing after Luo Zheng into the woodland.
Luo Zheng ran swiftly through the woods, looking for a place to hide. Regardless of whether the pursuers were sent by his sister or not, he dared not go back with them now. If they were from the Song Family, escaping from there again would become even more difficult.
The sound of footsteps behind him was drawing closer, and Luo Zheng grew more and more anxious. But other than trees, there were no places to hide.
Fu Yi and Qian Wei, trailing behind, quickly found the car stopped on the road.
They disembarked, and Fu Yi looked around, saying, "No one’s in the car; they must have gone into the woods. Let’s hurry and follow." If anything happened to Luo Zheng, they would have a hard time explaining. He was Young Master Lu’s brother-in-law, after all!
The two men soon spotted Luo Zheng and rapidly pursued him.
"Stop running, or I’ll shoot," one of the men threatened, taking out a gun and aiming at Luo Zheng, who was running ahead. After all, the young master had only instructed them to bring the person back; as long as Luo Zheng didn’t die, it should be fine.
Hearing this, Luo Zheng confirmed his suspicions. Since the pursuers were from the Song Family, he absolutely could not let them catch him.
"Bang!" A gunshot rang out.
A sharp pain shot through Luo Zheng’s leg, and he stumbled forward, falling to the ground, a sense of despair rising within him. It seemed he was not going to escape after all.
Hearing the gunshot, Fu Yi and Qian Wei exchanged glances and quickly ran towards the source of the sound.
The two men approached Luo Zheng with a cold laugh, "You’re a good runner, aren’t you? Run now!"
Luo Zheng snorted coldly and turned his head away. Since he couldn’t escape, there was no point in pretending to be tough with words.
One of the men grabbed Luo Zheng off the ground, not caring that his leg was bleeding profusely, staining his pants red, and dragged him toward the car.
Fu Yi and Qian Wei spotted the group coming and exchanged a glance. They quickly hid behind trees.
As Luo Zheng was dragged closer to the car, his heart filled with despair. He knew that once he was taken back, he would have no more chances to escape.
