Chapter 233: Two hundred thirty-two, don’t think of leaving.
Luo Zheng took a few steps back, then with a light leap, he scaled the wall. Since practicing the Five Animal Frolics, his body had become much lighter than before, and his movements much more agile.
"Second Sister, I’ll go down first. Don’t be scared, I’ll catch you," Luo Zheng said before jumping down from the top of the wall.
"You can come down now, Second Sister," Luo Zheng called out with his arms wide open to Luo Shan, who was still lying on the wall.
Luo Shan trembled, trying to rise, but her hands and feet were so weak they wouldn’t respond; she shook her head, "I can’t get down..."
Luo Zheng was jumping up and down in anxiety, yet he was powerless, "Flip down hard, and I’ll catch you." He feared that any further delay would get them discovered, and then none of them would be able to escape.
"Who’s there?!" Just as he thought this, a cold shout came from the other side of the fence.
Luo Shan turned deathly pale with terror, frantically trying to climb down the wall, but her foot slipped, and her body fell straight down to the other side.
"Second Sister!" Luo Zheng wanted to climb over the wall to check on Luo Shan, but after a moment of internal struggle, he gritted his teeth and ran into the night. If he went back now, he would truly never have the chance to escape again. The most important thing right now was to find his eldest sister.
Song Xiran walked up to Luo Shan, his face cold, looking down at her from above, "Why did you run?" He had just let his guard down when the siblings made their move. It seemed he had underestimated Luo Zheng.
Trembling, Luo Shan shrank back, terror-stricken as she looked at Song Xiran, "I... I don’t want to stay here..." In that moment, Song Xiran’s presence made her feel as if she were in an ice cellar.
"Did you think the Song Family is a place you can come and go as you please?" Song Xiran’s eyes narrowed, a fierce and chilling light flickering within.
"Please... let me go..." Luo Shan kept crying, her body trembling slightly. Not only was she scared, but she also had to endure the piercing agony.
When she had fallen off the wall, not only was her entire back in pain, but one of her legs had also broken. Yet Song Xiran wouldn’t allow Doctor He to treat her, saying he wanted her to remember this pain.
"Unless you’re dead, don’t even dream of leaving this place!" Song Xiran said coldly and then turned to walk away. Throughout his life, he despised anyone defying his orders, especially someone as lowly as Luo Shan.
Luo Zheng ran aimlessly through the streets, uncertain of where to go. Without a household registration book, a letter of introduction, or any money, he was simply unable to leave Jinchen and return to Cloud City.
Song Xiran had said his eldest sister was also in Jinchen, but the city was so large, where could he possibly find her? And now, he was also worried about the safety of his Second Sister, unsure of how Song Xiran would treat her.
Running all night, Luo Zheng was both tired and hungry, listening to the cries of the vendors on the street and the drifting aroma of food, he could only swallow his saliva continuously.
Withdrawing his longing gaze, Luo Zheng continued to run forward. He didn’t know if Song Xiran would send people to look for him, but just in case, he had to find a place to hide first, then figure out what to do next.
Seeing an alley up ahead, Luo Zheng darted into it.
The alley was deep, so long that he couldn’t see the end, and it gave Luo Zheng a feeling as though he had returned to Cloud City.
Not far ahead of him, an old couple walked arm in arm, strolling at their leisure.
At that moment, a ragged-looking man approached from the opposite direction. As he passed by the elderly couple, he deliberately bumped into them.
The old man quickly steadied the old woman, asking with concern, "Are you alright?"
The elderly lady smiled faintly and shook her head, "It’s okay, let’s go back."
Luo Zheng saw this scene, slightly furrowed his brows, and hurried forward to stop the man, "Give them their money back." He had seen it on TV, those thieves all used these tricks to steal money.
The man glared at Luo Zheng with hostility and threatened in a deep voice, "I advise you to mind your own business, lest you bring trouble upon yourself!"
"I have decided to intervene, and you won’t be leaving until you hand over the money," Luo Zheng said firmly, staring at the other man. Since he had witnessed it, he wouldn’t just stand by.
"You little brat!" The man cursed angrily and swung a punch at Luo Zheng.
Luo Zheng was not one to back down easily and began to exchange blows with the man.
It didn’t take long before the man fell behind. He reached out to throw the recently stolen wallet at Luo Zheng’s face and took the opportunity to run ahead.
Luo Zheng picked up the wallet from the ground and approached the elderly couple, "Here is your wallet."
"Thank you! Young man, thank you so much." The old man smiled as he took the wallet and expressed his gratitude.
"You’re welcome!" Luo Zheng smiled and shook his head, then continued walking deeper into the alley, past the elderly couple.
"Young man, wait a minute." The old man called out to Luo Zheng.
Luo Zheng stopped in his tracks, looking puzzled at the elderly couple approaching, "Is something the matter?"
"We live nearby, in that courtyard. If you don’t mind, come over to our place for a meal," said the old lady with a smile.
As Luo Zheng hesitated whether to decline or not, his stomach growled, and his face turned embarrassingly red.
"Let’s go, auntie will make you something delicious," the old lady said, smiling as she grasped the sleeve of Luo Zheng’s clothes and led him toward the courtyard ahead.
The furnishings in the elderly couple’s home were very simple, but there were a lot of books on the bookshelf against the wall, which caught Luo Zheng’s eye.
"Young man, if you like reading, just take a book from the shelf. Your auntie and I will go cook," the old man said cheerfully. He had taken quite a liking to Luo Zheng, especially the eager look in Luo Zheng’s eyes when he saw the books. A child with a sense of justice and a love for reading is definitely a good kid.
"Thank you, uncle and auntie!" Luo Zheng bowed to the couple, walked to the bookshelf, and picked up a copy of Journey to the West, immersing himself in it with relish. He had longed for this book for a long time, but neither the school’s library nor any bookstore had it.
The old man and the old lady exchanged smiles and, holding hands, went to the kitchen. They had thought their days were numbered, but they were fortunate to have met the Little Divine Doctor, who gave them more time to spend together.
Luo Zheng was completely engrossed in the book until he heard the old man calling him, then reluctantly raised his head.
"Come and eat. You can continue reading after the meal," the old man said with a chuckle.
"Okay, thank you!" Luo Zheng placed the book back on the shelf and followed the old man to the kitchen.
