Chapter 211: Two hundred and ten, touching love

The streets were bustling with people and vehicles, as the anticipation of the upcoming New Year painted a joyous smile on everyone’s face.

Pedestrians carried large and small bags, while cyclists had big fish and meat gifted by their employers hanging from the front and rear of their bikes, hurrying home. When it’s finally the end of the year, shops, sales points, and malls will close for a break, leaving no place to buy anything.

Lu Hanmo and Luo Shu walked side by side, chatting and strolling leisurely through the streets. In this era, there weren’t many places of entertainment, but Jinchen was home to many historic sites. However, it was too late today, and if they wanted to visit, they would have to wait until tomorrow.

"Shushu, do you like eating duck?" Lu Hanmo asked, turning to Luo Shu as he noticed the long line at the roast duck shop across the street.

Luo Shu nodded with a smile, "Every time I used to come to Jinchen, I would almost always go to the roast duck shop. But the roast duck shop of those days had become a signature sight of Jinchen, almost impossible to get a table." Time had changed many things, and though the taste of the duck back then was good, she was sure it couldn’t compare to now.

"Then let’s go buy some," Lu Hanmo said, taking Luo Shu’s hand and heading towards the shop across the street.

A radiant smile bloomed on Luo Shu’s face as she looked at Lu Hanmo’s resolute profile, her eyes brimming with sweetness and happiness.

The two joined the back of the line, moving slowly forward with the crowd. While such a wait might seem dull to others, they didn’t feel that way. Just being with each other, even if they were merely standing quietly, was happiness because they had each other’s company.

"Young comrades, you’re a married couple, aren’t you?" An elderly couple ahead of Luo Shu and Lu Hanmo turned around with a smile, looking at them.

"No," Luo Shu said with a laugh, shaking her head. She knew Lu Hanmo’s personality, so she replied first.

"Seeing the way you only have eyes for each other, I thought you were newlyweds," the old lady said with a smile, turning her head and exchanging a look with her husband. Seeing the young couple reminded her of her own youth with her husband. Back in those days, they too had been impulsive, passionate, rebellious... and only after many trials did they manage to walk together to this point.

Unfortunately, the days she and her husband could spend together were no longer plentiful. Perhaps this year would be their last New Year together.

With that thought, she extended her hand and gently held her husband’s. In old age, one is easily touched by certain things. But she had never regretted her life.

Her husband held her hand back, clasping it tightly in his palm. Her days were numbered, and without her, his life would lack interest. He had already made his decision long ago...

Watching the elderly couple ahead, Lu Hanmo reached out to hold Luo Shu’s hand, gazing earnestly into her eyes.

Luo Shu’s lips curled into a smile. She understood his message. One day they too would be like this couple, with hair turned white by time, but no matter what, they would never let go of each other’s hands. Just like the couple ahead, ordinary, happy, without regret.

The line slowly dwindled, and it was the elderly couple’s turn.

"Comrade! I would like a duck leg," the old man said to the salesperson at the roast duck shop.

"All right, old comrade!" The salesperson smiled and nodded, handing the old man a duck leg. Everyone at their shop knew this couple, because the old lady loved roast duck, so the old man accompanied her every day to buy it. They would always purchase just one duck leg.

"Mei!" the old man handed the duck leg to the old lady. The hospital had already determined that his partner’s disease was incurable, and now all he could do was make her happy. She loved eating roast duck, so he bought it for her every day.

The old lady took the duck leg and smiled brilliantly at the old man, and in that moment, she seemed to grow much younger.

"Please wait a second!" Luo Shu spoke up, stopping the elderly couple who were just about to leave.

"Comrade, what can I do for you?" the old man turned to look at Luo Shu and asked.

"I can cure her illness," Luo Shu said with a smile. She was moved by their love, so she did not want the old lady to just pass away, leaving the old man alone and unsupported.

The elderly couple lived in a courtyard, and when they pushed open the door to the house, a faint scent of books filled the air.

"Comrades, please come in and take a seat," the old lady said with a smile, inviting Luo Shu and Lu Hanmo in. Luo Shu said she could cure her illness, which she did not believe; even the hospital doctors had given her a death sentence, so how could a seventeen- or eighteen-year-old girl possibly cure it? However, she really liked this young couple, so she invited them to visit her home.

"Thank you!" Luo Shu smiled and nodded, entering the house with Lu Hanmo.

The house was very clean and simply furnished. The most eye-catching thing was a row of bookshelves in the corner, filled with books arranged neatly and without a speck of dust.

On the wall next to the bookshelf was a large photo frame, full of black and white pictures arranged neatly, featuring the old couple in their youth, middle age, and now with their white hair.

In the photos, the two sat together leaning on each other, both wearing happy smiles.

"My husband and I started taking a photo at the photo studio every year since our first year of marriage," the old lady reminisced, looking at the photos of herself and her husband in the frame with a hint of nostalgia.

In her entire life, her only regret was not being able to bear a child for her husband. If they had, they would not be so alone now. Thinking of leaving her husband behind on his own, her heart felt like it was tearing apart, aching with each beat.

Luo Shu looked at the old lady, "Auntie, please sit down, I’ll take your pulse for you."

The old lady smiled, nodded, walked over to sit down, and stretched her hand out on the table, waiting for Luo Shu to take her pulse. She could not bear to see Luo Shu’s disappointed face after being rejected, so she thought to let her have a look.

Luo Shu reached out and touched the old lady’s pulse. After a short while, she withdrew her hand, "Auntie, I can cure your disease." The illness was somewhat similar to Uncle Chen’s in the past, and with her current strength, even if she did not use medicine, just using Silver Needle, she could cure the old lady’s illness.

"Can you really cure it?" The old man asked with some disbelief. If his partner’s illness could be cured, he would exchange even his own life for hers without any regrets.

"Yes! As long as you believe in me, I can cure Auntie’s illness," Luo Shu confidently nodded, smiling at the two of them.
