Chapter 207: Two hundred and six, making dumplings

"Mm!" Luo Shu nodded with a smile.

"I’m Wang Zhen, Chen Zhihe’s wife. I really can’t thank you enough for taking care of Old Chen." Wang Zhen looked at Luo Shu gratefully. Ever since her Old Chen became the deputy director, her relatives and the neighbors around had started to think highly of her.

"You’re too kind, Sister-in-Law! It’s all because Big Brother Chen is so capable," Luo Shu said with a smile. If Chen Zhihe hadn’t had any ability, even with her help, he wouldn’t have been able to hold his position for long.

"Luo Shu is here!" Aunt Chen, hearing Luo Shu’s voice, came out of the kitchen and said cheerfully, "It’s perfect timing, I made dumplings today. Stay here for lunch."

"Sure!" Luo Shu didn’t stand on ceremony with Aunt Chen.

"Then I’ll go and make some more dumplings," Aunt Chen said cheerfully as she turned and headed back into the kitchen.

"Auntie, let me help." Luo Shu stepped toward the kitchen.

Wang Zhen was about to follow when the cry of a child came from inside the house, stopping her in her tracks, "Xiao Bao is awake. I’ll go check on him."

Luo Shu nodded and walked into the kitchen.

After washing her hands, Luo Shu went forward and started making dumplings face to face with Aunt Chen.

"Auntie, do my dumplings look right?" Luo Shu held up one of her dumplings for Aunt Chen to inspect. Back in the South, at the Divine Doctor Family, they rarely made dumplings, but sometimes they would make wontons.

Aunt Chen looked up and nodded with a laugh, "Yes, your hands are really skillful."

Luo Shu placed the finished dumpling in the bamboo steamer beside her and picked up another dumpling skin to continue wrapping.

"Luo Shu, I heard that Luo Zheng and Luo Shan were taken away by someone." Aunt Chen picked up a dumpling skin, and with her chopsticks, she quickly grabbed a small piece of filling and placed it on the skin, then swiftly pinched a few times and a dumpling was shaped.

"Yes," Luo Shu nodded.

"Those kids, really, they just left without a word. Aren’t they afraid you would worry?" Aunt Chen shook her head in disappointment. She used to think those kids were quite alright. How could they be so thoughtless? Even if the person was indeed their older cousin, they should have waited for Luo Shu to return and inform her before leaving.

"Auntie, how’s your leg lately? Is it still hurting?" Luo Shu changed the subject. She didn’t want to dwell on the matter concerning Luo Shan and the rest. Since they had made their choice, why should she interfere?

She only hoped that when they met again, they wouldn’t be enemies. Otherwise, even if they were relatives of the original owner of the body, she wouldn’t go easy on them.

"It hasn’t been hurting for a while now. These days, Old Chen and I walk for half an hour longer on our daily strolls," Aunt Chen replied with a smile, picking up the bamboo steamer from the table, "I’ll go boil these dumplings now."

Wang Zhen walked in carrying the just-awoken Xiao Bao and came up to Luo Shu, saying to the baby in her arms, "Xiao Bao, this is your auntie. Look at her, isn’t your auntie pretty?"

Luo Shu looked at the baby in Wang Zhen’s arms—an adorable, pudgy little thing with very black, large eyes, very pretty. Although only over a month old, he was already fixing his gaze on people.

"So cute! Can I hold him?" Luo Shu asked Wang Zhen.

"Of course," Wang Zhen nodded and handed the baby over to Luo Shu.

Luo Shu wiped her hands with a towel and took the baby.

The baby was soft and carried a pleasant milky scent. His tiny mouth kept wriggling, making the motion as if he were drinking milk, and his large, shiny black eyes stared steadily at Luo Shu without moving.

"Baby, what are you looking at? Do you not recognize your aunt?" Luo Shu asked playfully, teasing the child in her arms.

The child suddenly grinned and let out a giggling laugh.

"Oh my! Luo Shu, you really are blessed. This is the first time the child has laughed like that at anyone." Wang Zhen said to Luo Shu with a smile.

"Yes, I’ve been trying to amuse him all morning, and he just wouldn’t give in," Aunt Chen added with a laugh as well.

"That’s because I have a face that makes everyone smile and flowers bloom. Isn’t that right, baby?" Luo Shu praised herself with a thick skin.

"Yes! Yes! Hehehe..." Wang Zhen and Aunt Chen agreed, laughing along. The kitchen was filled with cheerful laughter.

After having lunch at Aunt Chen’s house, Luo Shu chatted with them for a while before taking her leave. She still needed to stop by the city to bring New Year’s gifts to her godmother and also wanted to check out the malls in town. She was going to visit Jinchen with Lu Hanmo the next day, and it would be impolite to go to the Lu family’s house empty-handed.

She drove to Zhao Aishu’s house, only to learn that Zhao Aishu had already gone back to Xu Feng’s ancestral home. Since Xu Feng was a prefect and quite busy with official duties, he would not return home until the official New Year’s holiday started.

After giving the gifts to the Xu family’s housekeeper, Luo Shu drove to the city mall.

Perhaps due to the impending New Year, the mall was packed with people.

Luo Shu wandered around the mall and, although she didn’t buy anything, some people recognized her. If it weren’t for her quick escape, she would have been trapped in the mall. She finally understood why celebrities of latter times always wore masks and sunglasses when going out.

Lu Hanmo had packed his luggage early, thinking about taking Shushu home the next day, which made him very happy.

He wanted to call Shushu, but these days, the soldiers who didn’t have the chance to go home for the New Year were all queued up to call their families. He naturally didn’t feel right joining the crowd at this time.

Back in his dormitory, after getting washed up, Lu Hanmo was just about to start cultivating.

Mo Shaoze’s voice came from outside, "Lu Hanmo, are you in there?"

Lu Hanmo walked up and opened the door. "What’s up?" Mo Shaoze was not on the list of those who could go home for the New Year this time.

"I came to invite you for a drink. Zhou He’s meal is ready, and we’re just waiting for us to join," Mo Shaoze said with a smile. Zhou He was also an instructor, slightly older than both him and Lu Hanmo.

Zhou He was already married, and his wife had just moved to the family compound of the training camp last month. Zhou He’s invitation for them today was to introduce his wife to them.

"Let’s go!" Only then did Lu Hanmo remember that Zhou He had mentioned this to him before the mission.

The two arrived at Zhou He’s house, which was already full of guests.

"This is Instructor Lu Hanmo and Instructor Mo Shaoze. And this is my wife, Zhang Xia, a primary school teacher," Zhou He introduced them to each other.

"Hello, Sister-in-Law," Lu Hanmo and Mo Shaoze nodded to Zhang Xia.

"Please, don’t be shy, Officers. Have a seat!" Zhang Xia greeted them warmly, inviting them to sit before going into the kitchen.

Soon after, Zhang Xia emerged with a girl who bore a resemblance to her, carrying dishes. She introduced her to everyone with a smile, "This is my sister Zhang Ting. She’s a nurse." She secretly hoped her sister could also find a good match at the camp, so they could look after each other in the future. Among these people, she favored Lu Hanmo the most, although she’d heard he was already taken.
