Chapter 197: One hundred ninety-six, missed
Luo Shu led the people out of the Suicide Forest and came to the other side of Fuyuan Mountain, where there lay a maple forest sprawling over the hills and plains. However, it was winter now, and the spectacular sight of the maple leaves turning red could not be seen.
In the note she left for Lu Hanmo, the place she mentioned for the meeting was this very maple forest.
In her previous life, she had been here and had taken a particular liking to this maple forest. One day while wandering through the maples, she found a canyon with a terrain suitable for both offense and defense, and convenient for retreat. It was an ideal temporary hiding spot for Mo Shaoze and his group.
Following her memory, Luo Shu led the people to that canyon. Turning to Mo Shaoze and his group, she said, "You guys stay here for the next few days, and I will come find you after I find Hanmo. Also, the talisman card that Hanmo gave you, wear it around your neck; it can ward off evil and avert disaster." The talisman card could protect them from three calamities, and even bullets would pose no problem.
"Okay, Sister-in-Law!"
"We got it!"
Everyone took out the talisman cards from their luggage and hung them around their necks. After previous experiences, they had no doubt about the effectiveness of the talisman cards.
"Then I will be on my way." Luo Shu smiled and waved to everyone before stepping deeper into the maple forest. She needed to check out the base and see if she could infiltrate it.
Lu Hanmo had sneaked into Wutian Xinye’s study and quickly left the villa after reading through those documents. He speculated that Shushu must have already seen them.
When he arrived at the meeting point arranged with Mo Shaoze and the others, Lu Hanmo planned to leave a secret message for them to share his current situation but discovered the place was guarded by a team with guns in hand.
Lu Hanmo frowned slightly and changed direction, running towards another area.
Along the way, he found the clues Mo Shaoze’s group left for him. Following the clues, he encountered yet another large group of guards.
At this moment, the guards were tying ropes around their bodies, prepared to enter the forest in front of them.
Lu Hanmo glanced at the nearby forest, thought for a moment, and slipped into the forest from another side. Even the security forces of MD Country were so wary of this forest, which surely meant it held dangers. He had to make sure that Mo Shaoze and the others were safe before he could rest easy.
As soon as he entered the forest, Lu Hanmo felt its oppressive atmosphere. After a short distance, he saw a body on the ground.
With a slight frown, he moved on and continually found more bodies, at least twenty in total.
As Lu Hanmo ventured deeper into the forest, he finally came across the secret signs left by Mo Shaoze and his group. Upon seeing the signs, his heart settled. As long as they were safe, that was all that mattered!
Following the signs, he saw the maple forest ahead, and a faint smile graced Lu Hanmo’s lips. This was the place Shushu had chosen to meet him. To his surprise, it turned out to be the same place Mo Shaoze and his group had come to.
In the canyon, there flowed a clear stream.
In the stream, fat and lively fish swam merrily.
The people kindled a fire and caught some fish from the creek, cleaning them before placing them over the flames to roast.
"Is it really okay for Sister-in-Law to go look for the instructor alone?" Li Niuwa flipped the fish he was holding, looking toward Yang Zihe beside him. He admitted that he was no match for Luo Shu, but he couldn’t help worrying inside.
"Honestly, I’m also concerned, but Sister-in-Law has the same temperament as the instructor," said Yang Zihe somewhat helplessly.
"Exactly! But what use is worrying? We don’t even know where she’s gone," someone else remarked.
Mo Shaoze put down the fish in his hands, stood up, and addressed everyone, "I’ll go look for her!" He had been regretting not accompanying Luo Shu earlier.
"Who’s there?!" called out the forest soldier stationed at the entrance of the canyon to monitor the situation.
Everyone hastily threw down the fish and got on alert. Could it be that the smoke here had attracted others?
Originally, they thought the distance from the Suicide Forest was great enough that even if they made a fire here, it wouldn’t be seen from there. Still, trouble had seemingly found them.
"It’s me!" A cold and familiar voice reached everyone’s ears.
"Instructor!"
"Lu Hanmo!" Everyone was surprised to see Lu Hanmo. They hadn’t expected him to show up.
Seeing that everyone was fine, Lu Hanmo’s worries eased. "What are you doing here?" He had just passed through the Suicide Forest and was well aware of the conditions; with their strength, they probably wouldn’t encounter danger inside. However, getting through the forest to this place was not easy.
"Sister-in-Law brought us here; she told us to wait for you here," said Li Niuwa.
"You met Shushu?" Lu Hanmo asked in surprise. From the time he received the message until now, he had missed her several times.
Mo Shaoze nodded, "She found out we were trapped in the Suicide Forest and made a special trip to find us. She’s gone to look for you now; hurry and find her in case she runs into danger." Although he had many questions in his mind, especially about the talisman, Luo Shu’s safety was the current priority.
"Alright! Stay here and don’t leave; wait for us to find you," Lu Hanmo instructed.
"Don’t worry! Go on!" Mo Shaoze patted Lu Hanmo’s shoulder with a smile.
Lu Hanmo nodded slightly and surveyed the surrounding environment. He moved a few stones to the entrance of the canyon. Although the terrain was advantageous, he would feel more at ease with the protection of a formation.
Wutian Xinye looked up impassively at Wutian Tengyi, "Still haven’t found them?" After Luo Shu disappeared yesterday, he specifically went to the study and found that nothing had been disturbed, which somewhat relieved him. Only he knew how important that base was to him. If the base were destroyed, not only could he not preserve his current position, but possibly even his life would be at risk.
"Yes! Those guards from Yan Country have not been found either," Wutian Tengyi said with his head bowed, his face displaying defeat. This was the first time he felt such failure. His father must be disappointed in him!
"Forget about those guards for now; that woman is the key," Wutian Xinye spoke in a grave tone. If he could use Luo Shu to eliminate Lu Hanmo, it would be tremendous news for the Guard Circle of MD Country. What’s a hundred guards? In his view, they combined were not as important as a single Lu Hanmo.
