Chapter 189: 188, Martial Arts

"The mood was all ruined by him," Luo Shu said angrily, looking at the retreating figure of Wu Guzi. If not for the old man’s high vigilance, she would have made him pay today, right here.

Lu Hanmo stretched out his hand to hold Luo Shu’s, "Don’t be angry anymore." He made a resolve to train harder, because next time, he wouldn’t let the opponent escape so easily.

"Then carry me on your back!" Luo Shu cooed, stretching out her arms. She really enjoyed the feeling of being carried by him.

"Okay!" Lu Hanmo said indulgently with a smile, turning around and lowering his body.

Luo Shu smiled brightly and jumped onto Lu Hanmo’s back.

The pair had just returned to the training camp when they heard a bugle call for assembly from afar.

Lu Hanmo frowned slightly, "Shushu, you go back first, I’ll check it out." Blowing the assembly call now, he was unsure what had happened.

"Okay!" Luo Shu nodded, watching the retreating figure of Lu Hanmo and smiling slightly before turning and walking towards Lu Hanmo’s dormitory.

"Big sister!" Just as Luo Shu was about to enter the dormitory building, a somewhat familiar voice came from behind her.

Luo Shu stopped in her tracks and turned around, only to see Zhang Xiuer approaching her with a broad smile.

"It’s big sister!" Zhang Xiuer was the wife of Li Shun, who is under Lu Hanmo’s command. She had just brought her son, Da Bao, to the place recently. She also happened to come by that day to celebrate Lu Hanmo’s birthday and ran into Zhang Xiuer on the way, so they both came to the training camp in Li Shun’s car.

"I heard you were here in the training camp, so I came to check on you. Come and sit at our place, Da Bao misses you," Zhang Xiuer said with a smile.

"Sure!" Luo Shu agreed. Since she had nothing else to do, it wouldn’t hurt to sit for a while.

Following Zhang Xiuer, Luo Shu arrived at their family residence building.

Upon entering the house, she saw Da Bao crouched over a table, playing with a bamboo dragonfly. It was his only toy, and he cherished it deeply.

"Da Bao, your sister is here, aren’t you going to greet her?" Zhang Xiuer spoke to Da Bao who was engrossed with his toy.

"Sister!" Da Bao looked up at Luo Shu and called out obediently, he still had some memory of Luo Shu.

"Good boy!" Luo Shu responded with a smile.

"Big sister, take a seat, I’ll pour you a glass of water," Zhang Xiuer said as she walked into the kitchen.

In a moment, she came back holding an enamel cup, "Big sister, have some sugar water." In those times, there wasn’t much to offer guests, so serving sugar water was already a notable way to show respect to a visitor.

"Thank you!" Luo Shu took the enamel cup and set it on the table.

"Big sister, drink it while it’s hot. In this cold winter, something warm will make you feel better," Zhang Xiuer suggested cheerfully.

Luo Shu smiled and nodded, then picked up the enamel cup and took a sip from it.

"Big sister, you and Centurion Lu are so close, when are you planning to get married?" Zhang Xiuer asked with a smile.

"Probably in two years," Luo Shu said. She had just recognized her kin, and surely her family would not let her marry Lu Hanmo so soon.

"Makes sense, big sister is a city girl, not like us in the countryside, getting married at fifteen or sixteen," Zhang Xiuer said with a laugh.

In that era, getting married was simply a matter of holding a ceremony, inviting relatives for a meal as a gesture, and registering at the village brigade.

Luo Shu smiled faintly and took another sip of sugar water from her cup.

"Big sister, sit for a while, I’ll be at the door to pick up some things; the family has sent over some mung beans. Da Bao, talk to your sister for a bit, mom will be back soon," Zhang Xiuer said and headed out.

Luo Shu withdrew her gaze and glanced at the enamel cup on the table.

Zhang Xiuer wasn’t gone long before she returned. Seeing Luo Shu collapsed on the table, a triumphant smile spread across her face.

Entering the room, she took out ropes she had prepared and tied up Luo Shu, then said to Da Bao who sat on the chair, "Let’s go!"

Da Bao gave a chilling smile, his body quivering as his small frame grew larger instantly, no longer the childlike figure he was at first. He had been trained in martial arts, which included disguise, escape, stealth, killing, familiarization with terrain, medical knowledge, and Fire Escape. Since arriving here, he had already memorized the layout of the place.

Carrying the unconscious Luo Shu, Da Bao’s figure flashed, disappearing from the spot like a bolt of lightning.

Zhang Xiuer tidied up the enamel cup from the table and went about her chores as usual. Of course, she was not Zhang Xiuer; the real Zhang Xiuer had been killed by her.

She had disguised herself as Zhang Xiuer to infiltrate the camp because their organization learned that this mission had failed. They also knew Luo Shu was the prime culprit for the mission’s failure. If not for Luo Shu treating those who were poisoned, their plan would not have failed even if all their operatives had been wiped out.

Choosing to infiltrate the training camp was because their organization understood the relationship between Luo Shu and Lu Hanmo. Infiltrating the camp would not only provide them with information but also offer the opportunity to strike at Luo Shu when she arrived. They chose Zhang Xiuer because she was acquainted with Luo Shu.

Reflecting on this, she suddenly felt that something was not quite right.
