Chapter 153: One hundred fifty-two, set-off a debt

"Then let’s set off the day after tomorrow," Luo Qianyu decided after hearing what Luo Shu said.

Luo Shu nodded with a smile, "I’ll go inside and change my clothes before coming out to cook."

"Luo Zheng has already prepared dinner; the dishes are all warmed up in the pot. Go change your clothes, and I’ll bring out the food," Luo Qianyu said as she put down her teacup and stood up, heading toward the kitchen.

Luo Shu didn’t refuse and began walking to her room.

Upon entering the room, she saw a piece of paper on the desk.

She walked over, picked up the paper, and quickly scanned it. It was a note from Luo Zheng, telling her that he had called Luo Shan, who worked at the village brigade office, but she wasn’t there. After asking other people at the office, he found out there was an issue at home. He mentioned he would stay in Luo Family Village that night and asked her not to worry about him.

After placing the note back on the desk, Luo Shu changed her clothes and left the room.

Luo Qianyu had already brought all the dishes to the table. Seeing Luo Shu come down, she greeted her with a smile, "Come and eat!"

"Okay!" Luo Shu nodded and sat down. She picked up her bowl and chopsticks and began to eat somewhat absentmindedly. For some reason, she felt a lingering sense of unease.

"What’s wrong? You seem preoccupied," Luo Qianyu noticed Luo Shu’s odd behavior and asked.

Swallowing the food in her mouth, Luo Shu replied, "I don’t know what it is, but I have this uneasy feeling."

"Are you worried about Lu Hanmo?" Luo Qianyu raised an eyebrow.

Luo Shu shook her head and put down her bowl, "I just saw the note Luo Zheng left. He said something happened in Luo Family Village." Even though Luo Jiansen wasn’t her father, Luo Shan and Luo Zheng were still her brother and sister. No matter how heartless she was, she couldn’t ignore them.

"Why don’t we go and take a look," Luo Qianyu suggested. The Luo Family Village wasn’t far from here, and it would be convenient to drive there.

After a moment of thought, Luo Shu nodded and called out to her side, "Qian Wei, Fu Yi, come here for a moment." Although the two of them lived here, they rarely appeared in front of her unless she called for them or encountered danger while out, in which case they would emerge from the shadows.

Qian Wei and Fu Yi stepped forward, looking impassively at Luo Shu, "Is there something you need?" They had a fair impression of Luo Shu, but they disapproved of how close she and Luo Qianyu appeared to be.

In their eyes, since Luo Shu had been acknowledged by the Lu family, she belonged to the Lu family and should keep her distance from other men.

"Big Brother Luo and I are going to Luo Family Village. If Hanmo calls, please let him know," Luo Shu said. Hanmo would definitely worry if he couldn’t find her.

"Understood!" Qian Wei responded indifferently.

"I’ll go with you," Fu Yi said, looking at Luo Shu and Luo Qianyu. He absolutely couldn’t let them be alone together. What if that kid Luo Qianyu had some trick up his sleeve and ran off with Young Master Lu’s wife?

"There’s no need, I’ll be fine with Big Brother Luo," Luo Shu said, unaware of Fu Yi’s thoughts, simply assuming he was concerned about her safety.

"I must accompany you; it is my duty," Fu Yi insisted, looking determinedly at Luo Shu.

"Just let him follow," Luo Qianyu said with a laugh, noticing Fu Yi’s intentions. The way these two lads looked at him, both with hostility, he knew they saw him as a rival for Lu Hanmo’s affections. It seemed the Lu family was quite satisfied with Luo Shu.

"Alright then," Luo Shu agreed.

Luo Jiansen’s home was brightly lit, and the yard was crowded with villagers who had come to watch the excitement.

Luo Shan was crying nonstop, her head hung low, silent.

Luo Zheng clenched his fists, his eyes red as he stared at Luo Jiansen, who was not far away. If that man weren’t his father, he would have rushed forward to beat him up right then and there.

Luo Jianmin sat on a bench in the main hall, his face marked with anger as he looked at Luo Jiansen standing to the side, "What were you thinking? Luo Shan is your daughter, how could you use her as a gambling stake?"

"I got carried away with the game," Luo Jiansen replied weakly. He hadn’t intended it; Luo Shan was akin to a money tree for him.

Due to Luo Shu, the people in the village had started to hold him in higher esteem. Wherever he went, he was greeted with smiles and flattery; he felt very proud. Although Luo Shu didn’t acknowledge him as her father, others didn’t see it that way. In their eyes, he was Luo Shu’s father, the father of the Little Divine Doctor who had saved the lives of the people in Cloud City.

For that reason, these past few days, people had been inviting him to meals, hoping to get Luo Shu to treat their illnesses through his connections. He had received quite a few benefits, and the money in his pocket had increased, leading him to become more extravagant with his spending.

Yesterday, Wang Muxing from the village had dragged him to his relative’s house for a drink. After drinking, he didn’t know who suggested it, but a few of them started playing cards. He couldn’t explain his bad luck; not only did he lose all his money, but he also ended up owing a large debt.

In the end, having no other option, he signed an IOU and bet Luo Shan as collateral.
