Chapter 142 - 141. Bronze Coffin

Chapter 142: 141. Bronze Coffin

Luo Qianyu exchanged a few words with Wei Xiao, then followed Luo Shu in jumping down from the opening of the cave.

Wei Xiao was aware of Luo Qianyu’s identity, and knew that both he and Luo Shu were doctors, and it was the two of them who had resolved the poisoning incident in Cloud City. Therefore, he wasn’t surprised at all that they were unafraid of the black smoke as they entered the cave.

However, the workers didn’t know this, and seeing Luo Shu and Luo Qianyu jump into the cave, they thought the black smoke was harmless to humans, so they also slowly started to move towards the opening of the cave.

"I advise you not to go there, you don’t have their kind of abilities," Wei Xiao said indifferently.

Hearing Wei Xiao’s words, most of the workers stopped in their tracks, but still, two daring workers ignored the advice and walked towards the cave opening.

One of them, as he was about to get close to the opening, cautiously stretched out his hand, wanting to test the power of the black smoke. After all, the smoke was so corrosive it could even dissolve a shovel, so it was impossible not to be afraid.

The moment his fingertips touched the black smoke, he screamed in pain, quickly withdrew his hand, and turned around to run.

The other worker, upon hearing his companion’s scream, was also startled and quickly ran away as well.

The former worker, having run a dozen or so meters away, looked at his hand in terror to find that the tips of his fingers had been corroded away by the black smoke, and fresh blood was gushing out.

Seeing this, the other workers looked on at the black smoke in fear. Had the smoke not been confined to a specific area and had not spread outwards, they would have run away long ago. Working here might pay well, but it’s not worth more than their lives.

"What on earth is that black smoke? It’s so terrifying!"

"The bosses went down there, will they be alright?"

"If something happens to them, what about our wages?" the workers discussed among themselves, their faces filled with concern. They had come to work here partly because of the high wages and also because Luo Qianyu and Luo Shu had saved their lives before.

Wei Xiao stepped forward and made a quieting gesture to everyone, "You don’t need to be afraid, as long as you stay away from the range of the black smoke, it can’t hurt you. Go on with your work."

"Designer Wei, the bosses won’t be in any trouble, right?" someone asked worriedly.

"No!" Wei Xiao replied confidently. Although he had only known Luo Qianyu for a short time, he was somewhat knowledgeable about the Divine Doctor Family. Luo Qianyu would definitely not undertake something he wasn’t sure of.

Luo Shu and Luo Qianyu landed steadily on the ground, where there was no Kirin Smoke, but in front of them lay a long corridor that was so deep that one could not see the end of it at a glance.

On the walls of the corridor, an ever-burning lamp flickered, the dim flame illuminating the entire passageway.

Streams of wind, of unknown origin, blew through Luo Shu and Luo Qianyu’s hair, ice-cold and giving off a somewhat eerie and gloomy vibe.

"Follow behind me," Luo Qianyu told Luo Shu. He was aware of Luo Shu’s abilities, which might even be greater than he imagined, but he was a man and her brother; it was natural for him to protect her.

"Okay!" Luo Shu smiled and nodded. With the protection of the Defense Talisman, she was not the least bit worried about their safety.

The two of them walked along the dimly lit passage, and after about fifteen minutes, they finally reached the end of the corridor. What lay before them was a huge and empty hall.

The "hiss hiss" sound came from ahead; as they followed the noise, both couldn’t help but feel a tingling sensation on their scalps. They saw, a dozen meters ahead, a massive pit densely filled with thousands of snakes writhing continuously. Even if they weren’t afraid of snakes, the sight of so many at once was enough to make anyone’s skin crawl.

Gazing past the serpent pit to the opposite side, they spotted an enormous bronze coffin engraved with dragon patterns, placed solemnly there. Bathed in the light of the surrounding candles, the bronze coffin exuded an aura of loneliness and dominance.

Luo Qianyu surveyed the hall, but aside from the massive pit of snakes, he found no other paths to the other side and frowned. He wasn’t willing to crawl through a pit of snakes.

Luo Shu carefully examined their surroundings for other mechanisms. There didn’t seem to be anything else, but when she looked up, she noticed a copper ring identical to the one outside. She pointed at it, "That copper ring might be a mechanism."

Luo Qianyu followed the direction of Luo Shu’s finger and indeed noticed the copper ring. It wasn’t very conspicuous; without close inspection, one wouldn’t notice it at all. "Unfortunately, it’s a bit too high." The copper ring was at least four or five meters above them, and even if they used Qinggong to circulate qi, they might not be able to jump that high.

Luo Shu continued to scrutinize the area for other mechanisms. Since they had already come this far, it was impossible to simply turn back.

"Master!" Xiao Qing’s voice came through Luo Shu’s consciousness.

"Xiao Qing, have you found something?" Luo Shu communicated with her mind. Xiao Qing wouldn’t call for her if she hadn’t discovered something.

"I can make all these snakes retreat, but in return, the master must share with Xiao Qing a piece of what’s inside the bronze coffin," it negotiated.

"No problem!" Luo Shu readily agreed. She hadn’t expected Xiao Qing to already know what was inside the bronze coffin.

Xiao Qing let out an excited cry, then went silent.

As Luo Shu wondered, she saw the snakes in the pit start to squirm rapidly.

Luo Qianyu saw this and quickly pulled Luo Shu back a few steps, shielding her behind him. He feared the swarm of snakes would attack them.

"We have defense talismans, don’t worry," Luo Shu said with a smile.

"I actually forgot about that, where did you get these defense talismans?" Luo Qianyu asked. He heard that among the Ancient Martial Sects, the Lieyan Sect specialized in Talisman Crafting, and he wondered what Luo Shu’s relationship was with them.

"I crafted them myself." As Luo Shu spoke, she flipped her hand to reveal a stack of Flame Talismans and Attack Talismans, and also handed a few Defense Talismans to Luo Qianyu, "These are for you."

Talismans come in many types; the lowest-grade talismans are like those yellow paper talismans used by the Rice Mountain Daoist Priest. Level Two and above talismans are more diverse, they can be crafted into pendants like the ones they wear around their necks, or even into bracelets.

Luo Qianyu looked at the talismans in his hand and faced Luo Shu solemnly, "Luo Shu, may I ask you a question?" Actually, he was quite conflicted about whether to ask.

"Go ahead and ask!" Luo Shu nodded with a smile. As long as it was something she could talk about, she would certainly tell him. After all, he was her father. As for the fact that she was his daughter, she felt it was better to wait for the right moment to tell him.
