Chapter 120: One hundred nineteen, poisoned

Mu Wan patted her round, satisfied belly, "This rice cake is really delicious!"

"There are some more in the basket, take them back with you later," Luo Shu said with a smile. She wasn’t particularly concerned about food.

"How could I do that? I’m both eating and taking, what if you start seeing me as a nuisance?" Mu Wan joked.

"Luo Shu! Luo Shu!" Just then, an urgent shout came from outside.

Luo Shu hurried outside, only to see Uncle Chen run in, sweating profusely, "Uncle, what’s wrong? Don’t worry, take your time and tell me."

"Your Aunt Chen is sick, and there are several others in the alley just like her. It seems they’ve caught the plague," Uncle Chen said anxiously. These past two days, his wife had been very weak, but he had not taken much notice since it’s common for the elderly to fall ill. However, this morning, he discovered sores on his wife’s body.

On his way to find Luo Shu, he passed by Jimin Pharmacy and saw a long queue. Surprised, he asked around only to find that their symptoms were identical to those of his wife.

Now he was truly worried. Since ancient times, whenever a plague broke out, it would spread widely. Eventually, if there was no other recourse, the entire area afflicted with the plague would be sealed off, leaving the inhabitants to fend for themselves.

"Mu Wan, you head back first. Uncle, let’s go." Luo Shu ran to the side, grabbed her bundle, and rushed off toward Aunt Chen’s house with Uncle Chen.

Along the way, Luo Shu saw many people exhibiting the symptoms Uncle Chen described, her frown growing deeper and deeper. If it was really the plague, that would be troublesome!

Arriving at Aunt Chen’s house, Luo Shu walked briskly to the bedside and began examining Aunt Chen.

Seeing Luo Shu with her brows tightly knit, Aunt Chen and Uncle Chen felt increasingly uneasy.

After a while, Luo Shu withdrew her hand, her expression grave.

"How is it?" Uncle Chen immediately asked.

"It’s not the plague, it’s poisoning." As for what kind of poison, she didn’t know yet. She would need to conduct some tests first.

"Poisoning? How could I be poisoned?" Aunt Chen asked in surprise.

Luo Shu shook her head, "I need to run some tests to find out."

"Okay," Aunt Chen and Uncle Chen nodded. They had great trust in Luo Shu.

Luo Shu took out a silver needle and a small vial from her bag, disinfected the needle, and pricked Aunt Chen’s middle finger, drawing a drop of blood.

After sealing the vial, Luo Shu packed away the small bottle and the Silver Needle, "Uncle, do you have water?"

"Yes, I’ll get it for you," Uncle Chen nodded and left the room.

Soon after, he returned with a white enamel cup and handed it to Luo Shu.

Luo Shu took the enamel cup and was about to discreetly add some Spiritual Spring when she smelled a faint odor. She leaned in to sniff, "The poison that Aunt Chen has been exposed to is likely related to this water."

"This water is drawn from the ancient well, we’ve been drinking it for decades. I drank it too," said Uncle Chen, puzzled. The well was not far from his home, and the neighborhood residents had been drinking its water since they were children. The well water was warm in winter, cool in summer, and sweet-tasting, making it the perfect beverage to relieve the summer heat.

Aunt Chen patted Uncle Chen’s hand, "Old man, why would Luo Shu deceive us?"

"But I drank it too," Uncle Chen said weakly.

"I included some detoxifying herbs in the medicine I prepared for Uncle a while back; perhaps its effects are still present, which is why you’ve not been poisoned," Luo Shu explained. The reason Uncle Chen had not been poisoned was because she had added a bit of Spiritual Spring to his medicine.

"So that’s it? Then Aunt Chen will be fine?" Hearing Luo Shu’s explanation, Uncle Chen immediately felt relieved.

"Absolutely nothing will happen!" Luo Shu declared confidently. Just a little bit of Spiritual Spring would be enough to detoxify Aunt Chen.

"Luo Shu, Aunt Chen is fortunate to have met you," Aunt Chen said with a smile, holding Luo Shu’s hand, her face filled with relief.

"Aunt, don’t say that, if it weren’t for you and Uncle, the three of us siblings would have been left homeless. Rest well, I’ll go back and run the tests, and I’ll come to see you again tomorrow," Luo Shu stood up, bade farewell to Aunt Chen and her husband, and walked outside. Who could have poisoned the well?

After getting off the plane, Luo Qian Yu drove towards Fangting Town. He had not seen Luo Shu the last time and hoped to see her on this trip.

Just as the car left the city area and was about to enter Fangting Town, it was stopped by two soldiers carrying real guns.

"Comrade, please step out of the car and cooperate with our inspection," one of the soldiers said.

Luo Qian Yu opened the car door, stepped out, and after the soldiers completed their inspection, asked, "What happened?"

"We cannot disclose that," the soldier said sternly.

"I’m friends with Instructor Lu Hanmo; you can tell me, and I won’t let the news leak," Luo Qian Yu said, his face adorned with a refined smile, embodying the image of a gentleman.
