Chapter 119: One Hundred Eighteen, Poison No. 1
"What’s this? Why have I never seen it before? Why is it so hard?" Mu Wan curiously examined the rice cake in the basket, unable to resist poking it with her finger.
"This is rice cake, a specialty of Ze Township. People in the South are particularly fond of it," Luo Shu explained. In her previous life, she lived in a digital age where any regional delicacy could be delivered promptly with just a click online, which was incredibly fast and convenient.
Unlike this era, where transportation is inconvenient, getting to enjoy Southern delicacies in the North is as difficult as reaching the heavens.
"Sister Luo knows?" Qin Che looked at Luo Shu in surprise. It was rare for people from the North to know about rice cake, let alone its origins.
"I’ve seen it before," Luo Shu nodded.
"So, is this rice cake tasty?" Mu Wan’s eyes sparkled as she stared at the rice cake in the basket, revealing her food-loving nature once again.
Luo Shu smiled slightly and stood up, "I’ll go to the kitchen now and make some for you to try." Rice cakes themselves are tasteless, but if boiled with greens or added to hot pot, they become very delicious. She loved eating them in her past life.
"Wow! Luo Shu, you’re too good to me! I absolutely adore you!" Mu Wan exclaimed excitedly, going forward to link arms with Luo Shu.
"Qin Che, stay and eat with us," Luo Shu turned to look at Qin Che.
"No, my father is waiting for me at home. Sister Luo, I’ll be taking my leave," Qin Che said and then turned toward the door to leave.
"He seems to dislike talking," Mu Wan remarked thoughtfully as she watched Qin Che’s retreating figure.
"Let’s go to the kitchen," Luo Shu picked up the basket from the table. She didn’t want to talk more about Qin Che for now. She planned to find someone to teach him after a few days. She believed that Qin Che would bring her surprises in the future.
Lu Hanmo entered the interrogation room and saw his subordinates questioning Muye Taro.
"Has he confessed?" Lu Hanmo asked in a detached voice.
"No, whatever method we use, he just won’t speak," one of the men answered.
Lu Hanmo waved his hand at the two men, signaling them to leave.
The subordinates immediately exited the room.
Lu Hanmo approached Muye Taro, his gaze sharp as he looked at him, "You’d better cooperate properly."
Muye Taro sneered sarcastically, "This was my own idea, and if you don’t believe me, there’s nothing I can do. I have nothing to say!" He would definitely not betray the people behind him, nor would he tell Lu Hanmo their plans, or else even if he survived, he would have no face to return to his country.
"Is that so?" Lu Hanmo scoffed coldly, reaching out to grasp Muye Taro’s arm.
As the sound of bones cracking filled the air, Muye Taro screamed in agony. With just a light squeeze from Lu Hanmo, his own bones had been crushed. Was this Lu Hanmo really human?
Lu Hanmo withdrew his hand, "I’ll give you a minute to think it over!"
"I... I won’t talk... Even if you kill me... I won’t..." Muye Taro trembled in pain but still defiantly said.
Without a trace of mercy, Lu Hanmo reached for Muye Taro’s other arm and applied a slight pressure.
"Ah~" A more wretched scream filled the entire training camp, chilling those who heard it to the bone.
Lu Hanmo walked out of the interrogation room and headed directly to the superior’s office. He had to report the information he had just received from Muye Taro to his superiors.
Cao Yeming had just put down the phone when he heard a knock on the door, "Come in!"
Lu Hanmo pushed the door and walked in, approaching Cao Yeming.
Cao Yeming pointed to a chair nearby, indicating for Lu Hanmo to sit down.
Lu Hanmo nodded slightly and sat down, "Muye Taro has confessed. According to him, they are all carrying the latest biochemical weapon, Poison No. 1, developed by their country. Once infected, the victim’s body will slowly decay, and the poison is highly contagious." If they hadn’t learned about this from Muye Taro, they would have thought it was the plague once the symptoms manifested.
With a loud "Bang!" Cao Yeming angrily slapped the table, "That’s just despicable!"
Once Cao Yeming’s emotions had somewhat stabilized, Lu Hanmo continued, "Poison No. 1 has a wide range of transmission. It can spread through water sources, currency, food, and other means, making it very difficult to defend against."
Cao Yeming took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down, then picked up the phone and dialed out. As soon as the call was connected, he immediately reported the information he had received.
After making several calls in a row, Cao Yeming put down the phone with a grave expression and looked at Lu Hanmo, "Lu Hanmo, you and Mo Shaoze immediately mobilize personnel to lock down the entire Cloud City. Detain any suspicious individuals on sight. I have already notified the Public Security Offices throughout Cloud City, and they have begun to impose martial law."
"Yes!" Lu Hanmo responded.
"By the way, I heard you have a friend who’s a doctor, and she provided you with the medicine for your injury?" Cao Yeming asked. He had meant to ask Lu Hanmo about this matter earlier but had forgotten due to being busy.
"Yes," Lu Hanmo nodded.
"If someone inadvertently gets poisoned, I hope you can ask your friend for help." The medicine she provided was so effective that she must be skilled in medicine.
"Alright," Lu Hanmo agreed.
