Chapter 118: One hundred seventeen, suggestion
Lu Hanmo handed over the captured Muye Taro to his subordinates, instructing them to conduct an interrogation overnight.
When Mo Shaoze saw Lu Hanmo, he walked over with a smile and hooked his arm around Lu Hanmo’s neck, "Lu Hanmo, do you have any more of that healing ointment?" He had also suffered some minor injuries this time, but after applying the ointment Lu Hanmo gave him, the bleeding from his wounds had quickly stopped—much more effective than any other medicine he had used before. Without guessing, it was certain that Luo Shu had given that ointment to Lu Hanmo.
"I don’t have any more!" Lu Hanmo said with a smile on his lips. Talking about the medicine made him start to miss Shushu again.
"Don’t be so stingy! Just give me two more bottles, just two." Mo Shaoze held out two fingers, shaking them before Lu Hanmo’s face as he laughed.
"Get lost!" Lu Hanmo pushed Mo Shaoze’s hand away and headed for the office. He still needed to report the situation of the mission to the higher-ups.
"Fine, if you don’t give it to me, I’ll go ask your wife for it tomorrow," Mo Shaoze said with an unashamed laugh.
Lu Hanmo gave Mo Shaoze a speechless look, "Suit yourself!"
Grinning, Mo Shaoze stepped forward again, his hand landing on Lu Hanmo’s shoulder, "I’m just joking, man. We’re buddies, aren’t we? You’d give me some. Let’s go to the office together."
This mission had been carried out jointly by him and Lu Hanmo, but there was one thing that Mo Shaoze found very strange. His hiding spot wasn’t particularly concealed and anyone observing carefully should have been able to spot him, but the enemy, as if blind, had completely missed him—as if he didn’t exist at all. If he hadn’t moved his position afterward, he wouldn’t have been injured at all. He still couldn’t figure out what exactly had happened.
Luo Shu picked up her tea and took a sip, continuing to review the documents in her hands. These were all study materials Zhao Aishu had given her for the exam. Since she had nothing better to do, she decided to look them over.
"Knock knock knock!" A gentle knocking sound came from the door.
"Come in!" Luo Shu closed the documents and looked at the visitor.
"Luo Shu, I have some good news for you," Mu Wan said as she walked in with a joyful expression.
"What’s the good news?" Luo Shu asked with a smile. Seeing Mu Wan reminded her that another week had passed, and today was Sunday again.
"A lot of my mom’s friends want to buy your Snow Skin Cream. And many of my classmates want to buy the Water Moisturizer. Here are the orders, and everyone on this list wants to make a purchase," Mu Wan said excitedly, handing a piece of paper to Luo Shu.
Luo Shu took the paper and saw that it listed twenty to thirty names, each followed by the quantity they wanted to order. It seemed that there were quite a few wealthy people in this era, although they usually kept a low profile.
"Luo Shu, I have a suggestion. Since so many people want to buy your cosmetics, why not open a counter in a mall? Wouldn’t that attract even more customers?" Mu Wan proposed. Although Luo Shu’s cosmetics didn’t have a registered trademark yet, with her connections, obtaining one wouldn’t be difficult.
"The time isn’t right yet," Luo Shu said with a smile. She believed there would soon be news from Zhou Xuemei as well.
"Then when will the time be right?" Mu Wan asked curiously. She was quite looking forward to Luo Shu opening a cosmetics counter.
"You’ll know when it’s time," Luo Shu said with a mysterious smile.
"Looks like you already have a plan; I knew it! How could you not?" Mu Wan said with sudden realization. The person she admired the most now was Luo Shu, so she found nothing Luo Shu did surprising.
"Eh? Are these exam materials?" Mu Wan exclaimed in surprise as she noticed the documents on the table.
"Hmm!" Luo Shu nodded.
"Luo Shu, are you looking at these materials because you want to take the college entrance exam?" Mu Wan asked.
"Yes, I’m planning to sit for the exam next June." In this era, there was no such thing as self-enrollment adult education exams. If it weren’t for Xu Feng’s help, the school would have never given her this opportunity.
Many high school students who failed to get into college had to repeat a year or go straight to work in factories. However, high school graduates in this era were already considered highly educated. If a family had a college student, it was a momentous event that brought glory to the ancestors, and people from the entire village would come to congratulate them.
"Luo Shu, how about you apply to our school? Then I could see you every day," Mu Wan said with hopeful eyes. She wasn’t at all worried about Luo Shu failing to get into college because, in her heart, Luo Shu was capable of anything.
"You have that much faith in me?" Luo Shu asked with a raised eyebrow and a smile.
Mu Wan nodded, stating as a matter of fact, "Of course! I have more confidence in you than I do in myself."
Qin Che walked in from outside. Seeing Mu Wan in the room, he paused to think, then stepped back out. His personality was rather solitary; besides his own father, he rarely interacted with others.
"Qin Che, come in," Luo Shu called out after catching a glimpse of him.
Qin Che entered the room and walked straight to Luo Shu without looking elsewhere, placing a basket filled with year cakes on the table, "Sister Luo, my dad asked me to bring this over to you." His grandfather had been from Ze Township, an area well-known for producing year cakes before the family fled here to escape famine.
While his grandfather was alive, he would make year cakes for them to eat every New Year. His father’s skill in making year cakes had been passed down from his grandfather.
The family hadn’t always been so poor, but due to those difficult years and their "bad" background, they had suffered severely, having most of their belongings confiscated. Later, his father became ill, so apart from their house, they were left with nothing. It had been many years since he had tasted year cakes.
Ever since his father started taking the medicine Luo Shu had prepared for him, he had been feeling better and better, able to get out of bed a few days prior. His father, feeling cured and regaining strength, had specifically sent him to the market to buy rice flour the day before, and early that morning, he had finished making the year cakes, which he was now delivering as a gesture of gratitude to Luo Shu.
